A molecular switch helps fruit fly eyes adapt to changing light
Science Signaling reports that researchers mapped how white and blue light change protein phosphorylation in fruit fly eyes.
TLDR
Science Signaling reports that researchers compared dark-adapted fruit flies with flies exposed to white or blue light. At one site on the eye’s Trp channel, phosphorylation was absent in darkness but present in 80% of Trp molecules under either light condition. Flies whose Trp could not be phosphorylated at that site had impaired responses to oscillating light.
