Electronic chip may help identify Parkinson’s disease earlier through blood markers
In Science Advances, researchers describe a chip that measures three forms of alpha-synuclein in vesicles isolated from blood.
TLDR
Researchers in Science Advances tested a chip that measures three forms of alpha-synuclein, a protein linked to Parkinson’s, in blood-derived vesicles. Their study included 66 people with Parkinson’s, isolated REM sleep behavior disorder or neither condition. The chip classified 57 blinded samples across those groups with 87.7% accuracy. The authors say its performance needs validation in a larger independent cohort.
