SmartAsset analyzed the Census Bureau's One-Year ACS for 2022 to see which cities millennials moved to and from. The survey covered 268 cities, where data was available for its 100,000-plus residents, and millennials were defined as those aged between 25 and 44, or within the birth years of 1979 and 1998. Here's what they found.

Key Takeaways:

  • In terms of sheer volume, coastal cities New York (414,338) and Los Angeles (207,098) had the largest influx of millennials last year, followed by Chicago (193,082), Houston (157,934) and Austin (103,461).

  • The largest influx of millennials as a percentage of the cities population was in Cambridge, Massachusetts, with 14.7 percent, which could be attributed to it being a higher-ed hub.

  • With over 40 percent in each, Jersey City (NJ), Seattle (WA), Denver (CO) and Austin (TX) led American cities with the highest share of millennials.
