It appears that the former President and currently indicted Donald Trump is the likely GOP nominee for the 2024 US election. However, he will not be appearing in the first Republican primary debate that is tonight on Fox News at 9 PM EST.

So in those full two hours, hosted by Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum, who are the other eight other potential candidates for the Republican nomination for president, and why should we care? Let's break down all eight men and women so you have an idea of who Twitter is dunking on, and for what reason. Which might be anything the candidates say, or maybe if a bug lands on one of them, who knows...

Ron DeSantis

ron desantis

Who he is: Ron DeSantis, Governor of Florida

"Meatball" Ron DeSantis is the current governor of Florida and the second place candidate in the polls, at the time of publishing this. He was previously a congressman for Florida, and ran for the Senate but bowed out to let Marco Rubio seek reelection. He's written two books, has a wife and three children, went to Yale and Harvard and served in the Navy, fighting in Iraq.

What he's known for

Mostly being made fun of, honestly.

In an effort to bring fascism to the state of Florida, DeSantis has passed a number of controversial and downright cruel bills, most notably the Fairness in Women's Sports Act (banning transgender girls and women from competing in women's sports), the Stop Wrongs to Our Kids and Employees Act (which allows parents to sue schools that teach critical race theory), limiting abortion rights and the Parental Rights in Education bill (which is known as the "Don't Say Gay" law for limiting the teaching of gender identity and gay rights history).

He was also widely criticized for his handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, where his state ranked 12th-worst when it came to cases and deaths.

Vivek Ramaswamy

vivek ramaswamy

Who he is: Vivek Ramaswamy, entrepreneur

Vivek is primarily a businessman, who co-founded the Campus Venture Network and the biotechnology firm Roivant Sciences. He also worked at a hedge fund and stepped down as the CEO of Roivant to pursue other ventures — one of them being running for president. Just like DeSantis, he attended Yale and Harvard, which is further proof they'll let anyone in if you're rich (or evil) enough.

What he's known for:

Being a Fox News plant and a fake person, according to Twitter. Also, best known for 9/11 conspiracy theories.

He also has stated he wants to eliminate the IRS, the FBI and the Department of Education. And absolve all teacher unions. No, we are not making this stuff up, folks.

Mike Pence

mike pence

Who he is: Mike Pence, former American Vice President

Mike Pence is the former VP, former governor of Indiana and a former member of the House of Representatives. Pence was a big proponent of eliminating abortion during his stint as governor of Indiana, and passed the Religious Freedom Restoration Act (which allows a business to openly discriminate against people).

What he's known for:

Being a momma's boy, and never being in the same room as another woman without his wife present. And, for avoiding being murdered by an insurrectionist mob during a coup attempt.

Nikki Haley

nikki haley

Who she is: Nikki Haley, former Governor of South Carolina

Nikki Haley was the governor of South Carolina, as well as the US ambassador to the United Nations during the Trump administration. She broke ground for being the first Indian American to serve in a presidential cabinet. Haley is a big fan of using military force in response to North Korean missile tests, is a staunch defender of Israel and led the withdrawal of the US from the UN Human Rights Council.

What she's known for:

Not liking unions of any kind!

Chris Christie

chris christie

Who he is: Chris Cristie, former Governor of New Jersey

Chris started his career as a federal prosecutor, then became the US Attorney for New Jersey and the governor of New Jersey. He helped work on both Bush campaigns for their presidencies, and ran into a big controversy involving the George Washington Bridge and some lane closures. This led to complaints of misconduct, a probe, several resignations of his staff as well as him torpedoing his bid for president in earlier election cycles. Tough break, Chris.

What he's known for:

Mostly for going to the Island Beach State Park during a government shutdown with his family, when the budget closed beach services for everyone else. Although he's talking a big game before this first debate:

Tim Scott

tim scott

Who he is: Tim Scott, Junior Senator from South Carolina

Tim Scott is a businessman and politician who has been repping his home state of South Carolina since the mid-'90s. He was in the South Carolina House of Representatives and then the US House of Representatives. He's on the Senate Banking Committee currently, and he's the first African American senator to be elected from the South since the Reconstruction era.

What he's known for:

Not criticizing Donald Trump whatsoever — even when he's trying to beat him for the nomination. Seems like a bold strategy, or maybe he's just gunning for his VP pick, who knows.

Asa Hutchinson

asa hutchinson

Who he is: Asa Hutchinson, Former Governor of Arkansas

Asa is an attorney and former governor of Arkansas. He was a member of Congress for a while, had a prominent role in the George W. Bush administration, worked with the Reagan administration, was the Attorney General of Arkansas, worked at the Department of Homeland Security, and was the Administrator of the DEA. Phew.

What he's known for:

Quite frankly, he's known for being old.

Doug Burgum

doug burgum

Who he is: Dough Burgum, Governor of North Dakota

Other than being the governor of North Dakota, Doug was the president of Great Plains Software which he later sold to Microsoft for a billion dollars in 2001. He left Microsoft to help found venture capital group Arthur Ventures. He's attended Stanford, and signed a near-total abortion ban in North Dakota too. He also banned the teaching of critical race theory in the state and supported the Dakota Access Pipeline.

What he's known for:

Not much, if he misses this first debate on TV tonight. He is currently polling at zero percent alongside someone named Hurd, and someone else named Suarez.

It truly is sad when this group seems to be the best that the GOP has to offer to counter Trump.

      Disgusting.
