OpenStreetMap is concerned: thousands of AI bots are collecting data
People in charge of OpenStreetMap, a collaborative project that is creatin free and editable maps, are concerned about the large amount of AI bots harvesting its data.
In recent years they have seen a few IPs making more than 10.000 requests, bit now, in one week, they have 100.000 IPs scraping the project in a coordinated way, what makes impossible to block either bots or IPs.
These automated visits cost money, due among other things to increased hosting costs. It is also possible that the bots are fetching information from OpenStreetMap that will be used for requests to chatbots.

OpenStreetMap, a collaborative project to create free, editable maps, is concerned about the large-scale harvesting of its data by AI bots, which is increasing hosting costs and potentially endangering the project. The bots are also making it difficult to block them, and this issue is becoming increasingly recognized by providers like Cloudflare and Akamai.
