The Lede

When the Apple Vision Pro arrived, Albert Fox Cahn was giddy with excitement to dive into the type of toy he'd dreamt of since childhood. The long-delayed promise of augmented reality was finally here. But almost as soon as he strapped on these cyborg ski goggles, he wanted to throw them against the wall. Not only was Cahn frustrated, he was terrified.

Key Details

  • The Vision Pro tries to answer the question of how you can use a computer without a mouse or keyboard. It answers it poorly.
  • For those of us who don't exclusively use an iPhone, iPad, or MacBook, or who try to protect our privacy with tools outside the Appleverse, this product clearly wasn't for us.
  • Cahn also quickly found Vision Pro's greatest weakness: walking. With his first step he saw the simulated version of his apartment shutter and shake, accelerating a growing motion sickness.
