Choice Home Warranty is a New Jersey-based company founded in 2008. Their plans offer protection against the cost of repair or replacement of major systems and appliances in the home via several plans. Each plan also offers optional coverage for septic systems, pools /spas, well pumps, sump pumps, central vacuuming systems, limited roof leaks, second refrigerators, and standalone freezers.
Coverage
Choice offer two home warranty plans for existing homeowners: Basic and Total. They're both great plans, but the Total plan is slightly better since it covers more stuff like air conditioning systems, refrigerators, washers, and dryers. It's only about $7 more per month than the Basic plan, and it includes the most common appliances.
Choice's plans cover a ton of stuff, including built-in systems like air conditioning, heating, electrical, plumbing, water heaters, central vacuums, ceiling fans, ductwork, and sump pumps. They also cover appliances like refrigerators, dishwashers, clothes dryers, clothes washers, built-in microwaves, garage door openers, garbage disposals, stand-alone freezers, ranges, and ovens.
They don't cover everything, though. For example, they don't cover pre-existing conditions or any repairs or replacements due to improper installation or maintenance. But they do offer optional coverage for specialty items like pools and spas, septic tank pumping, second fridges, freezers, and limited roof leaks.
Pricing
Choice's annual premium starts at $0, and the minimum contract length is 12 months. You don't need a home inspection for the contract, and you can get an online quote or application. We checked out the pricing for a small Midwestern city for a single-family home under 5,000 square feet — the Basic plan was $47.85 per month the Total plan was $54.95 per month.
One thing to note is that they charge an $85 service fee (or deductible) every time you make a claim. But this is still lower than most other home warranty companies out there.
Claims and Service
Choice Home Warranty has a waiting period of 30 days, and they require no maintenance records for service. They have a network of over 15,000 contractors and technicians, and you can only use in-network contractors for service. They also have a recall period of 30 days. You can make claims 24/7/365 through their claims center, and they take claims online or by phone.
Reputation
Choice Home Warranty has a reputation for being a great company. They've got a B rating from the Better Business Bureau and a 3.9 out of 5 rating on Trustpilot. But, like any company, they've got their fair share of negative customer reviews.
