OTC birth control? Why not?
This CBC News article explores why Canada still requires a prescription for birth control, while many other countries have moved to prescription-free access. The article discusses the potential benefits of making birth control available over-the-counter, such as increased access and reduced barriers for marginalized groups. However, it also highlights the complexities involved, including the need for clinical trials and the potential impact on healthcare funding. The article emphasizes the importance of considering the latest research and reevaluating outdated policies.
Lots of good points throughout the article. Although the discussion of risk needs to be had particularly for the contraindications of OCP. The idea that OTC medications have lower risk is a fallacy. Just looks at any of the nsaids (ibuprofen/naproxen) as a counter point.
Increasing access seems more important in my view.
