Bloomberg reports Epic delayed its Disney collaboration, a shooter featuring Marvel and Star Wars characters, from a planned March release, with no new date communicated. People familiar with the project said developers were told to use an “AI first” production model, including tools such as Claude. An internal message reviewed by Bloomberg said “no more hand-written code” and called for all art to be “generated with full AI workflows.” Epic said its developers would lead the AI-accelerated work.

Epic Games Forces Shocked Developers Into 'AI-First' Mode For Delayed Shooter Featuring Marvel And Star Wars Characters

Bloomberg reports that Epic Games has delayed an upcoming video game made with Walt Disney Co. The project, a shooter featuring Marvel and Star Wars characters, had been planned for a March release, but people familiar with the work said no new date has been communicated.

Those sources also said the development team was instructed to adopt an “AI first” production model using tools including Anthropic’s Claude, with humans managing and guiding the work. In an internal message reviewed by Bloomberg, a director wrote, “No more hand-written code,” and said the game’s art would be “generated with full AI workflows.”

Epic communications director Jake Jones told Bloomberg that the company is embracing AI-accelerated development led by Epic developers, whom he described as the creative drivers. Disney did not immediately respond to the outlet’s request for comment.

Bloomberg’s sources said progress had been slower than expected partly because Epic underestimated the staffing and time the game would require. The report said some developers were stunned by the AI directive and hoped the company might reverse course.
