Square Enix has opened preorders for the first volume of its new Gallery Cards line, a physical card collection built around Final Fantasy's 40th anniversary. The North American store lists a $49.90 display box and an approximate April 2027 release.
Each box contains 10 packs of five cards. The full collection runs to 180 cards across 97 illustrations, including newly drawn artwork and a new Y'shtola illustration used for the package key visual. Square Enix warns that buying a display box does not guarantee every card type, so the 50 cards inside represent only part of the set.
The rare cards do more than shine
The collection moves through four standard rarities, three foil versions and two additional special-foil tiers before reaching its more unusual treatments. Sixteen Harmonic Rare cards contain NFC tags. When scanned with a compatible phone, a tag displays music-streaming services so the owner can choose an available subscription and listen alongside the artwork. Square Enix notes that the feature may not work on every device or with every setting.
The single Phantom Legend Rare card uses a 3D hologram effect. The single Ultima Legend Rare card carries both a serial number and a digital signature from longtime Final Fantasy artist Yoshitaka Amano. Those details describe the collection's contents, not the odds of pulling any particular card; the product page does not publish pack odds.
The date and artwork are still provisional
Square Enix calls April 2027 an expected release window rather than a fixed shipping date. It also says the displayed images are still in development and may differ from the finished cards.
That leaves two practical unknowns for collectors: final appearance and distribution. The listing establishes the North American preorder price and box configuration, but it does not promise a full set in one purchase or explain whether the same price and release schedule will apply in every region.
