Nearly half of October 2026 Steam releases reportedly disclosed AI-generated content

Reddit user u/ploz’s analysis found that 49.9% of games released on Steam in October 2026 disclosed AI-generated content, compared with 1.7% in January 2024, Calum Patterson reported for Dexerto. Scott Duwe at Destructoid reported the same comparison, also drawing on u/ploz’s analysis.

The analysis covered approximately 63,600 Steam games released since January 2024, according to Dexerto. By release year, 13.2% of games released in 2024 disclosed AI-generated content, compared with 24% in 2025 and 40.1% so far in 2026.

The disclosure rates also differed by review count. Among games released in 2026 with fewer than 10 Steam reviews, 47% disclosed AI use. The figure was 14% for games with at least 1,000 reviews. AI-generated artwork appeared in 63% of disclosures, Dexerto reported.

These are developer disclosures, not a count of every game that used AI. Undisclosed content is not included, and Dexerto reported that Valve changed its requirements in January 2026 to focus on AI-generated content players can see or hear rather than tools used behind the scenes during development.
