BioWare reportedly shut down, new Mass Effect canceled in favor of potential Battlefront 3

EA shut down BioWare and canceled its new Mass Effect game after choosing to invest in a potential Star Wars Battlefront 3 instead, journalist Jason Schreier said in a video uploaded Oct. 30. He described the choice as the main reason for the closure, while also citing BioWare’s recent track record and changes among EA executives as contributing factors.

According to Schreier, BioWare had around 50 people working on the new Mass Effect, and the game was still in fairly early development despite its 2020 announcement. He said finishing either Mass Effect or a new Battlefront would require an investment of hundreds of millions of dollars.

That does not mean Battlefront 3 is already being made. Schreier said it was a possibility that had not started development when EA weighed the two projects.
