Anthropic added two sentences to Claude Code’s prompt for Opus 5.5 to discourage recreations of specific existing games, Wccftech’s Sebastian Castellanos reports. Castellanos says Anthropic’s Addy Osmani confirmed the addition was intended to discourage intellectual property infringement and encouraged developers to report projects rejected incorrectly.
The reported instruction draws a line between making a game in an existing genre and recreating a particular game. In an Oct. 30 post, Chasm gave its wording: “Do build original games, games in a genre, and games from the user’s own designs and assets. Don’t build a recreation of a specific existing game, even if it is renamed or called original.” Chasm said the rule arrived from Anthropic’s servers around Oct. 27 under a flag called tengu_heron_brook, with no setting to turn it off.
Castellanos reports that a developer operating Conflict Simulations LLC filed an Oct. 30 GitHub issue saying Claude Code refused to work on customer-commissioned digital board-wargame modules. According to the report, the developer said the modules used original code and customer-supplied materials, were intended for customers who owned the physical games and were not officially licensed by the games’ publishers. The complaint comes through Castellanos’s account rather than the developer’s original issue; that account does not independently establish the refusal or the projects’ rights status.
