An unannounced shooter being developed by Epic Games as part of its Disney collaboration has reportedly been delayed while the studio shifts the project to an “AI-first” production model. PC Gamer, citing Bloomberg, says the game was pushed indefinitely from an unannounced March 2027 target. The report describes it as a crossover featuring Marvel and Star Wars characters.
What “AI-first” reportedly means
VGC’s account of Bloomberg’s reporting says a director told staff to use tools including Anthropic’s Claude, move away from handwritten code, and generate the game’s art through AI workflows. Humans would manage and guide that work, according to the report.
The project’s progress had reportedly been slower than expected, in part because Epic underestimated how many people it would need. VGC reported that the announcement left some Epic developers stunned during a video call.
Epic frames a broader company pivot
An Epic spokesperson told VGC that the company is embracing AI-accelerated development while keeping Epic developers in charge of its creative vision. CEO Tim Sweeney separately described a broader push to move developers around and retool teams for faster AI-assisted work. He said the aim was to help people produce more and better work, not to deliver the same output with fewer staff.
