Indie PC and console games topping 500,000 first-month sales rose from 13 to 33 in the 2026 cohort

GamesIndustry.biz reports that Sensor Tower compared PC and console games that sold more than 500,000 copies in their first month across two September-to-August periods. Indie hits rose from 13 of 55 games in the 2025 cohort to 33 of 76 in the 2026 cohort. Games starting new series rose from 21 to 40, though sequels still accounted for 55% of first-month paid units in the 2026 cohort.
