The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered launches as a free upgrade

Movement and information get less friction

The update adjusts Geralt's jumping, climbing, vaulting and combat gap-closing animations, along with Roach's collision avoidance and mounted movement. A wider exploration camera and a dynamic combat camera are intended to improve visibility, while target switching has been revised when the player moves the camera during a fight.

Several interface changes focus on reducing repetitive menu work. Nearby loot can be grouped into one window, item details can be previewed before pickup, and a loot feed can show recently collected items. Players can collect items without dismounting Roach and can hold dodge before sprinting to disengage from combat quickly.

Quest and map handling also changes. Untracked quests receive distinct markers, tracked quests are easier to switch, and players can hide herbs, boats and corpses from the minimap. Meditation now plays as a time-lapse in the world rather than opening a separate static interface.

A configurable accessibility preset

The new Bard's Ballad preset is designed for players who experience mental fatigue or difficulty concentrating. Its options can adjust health regeneration, enable infinite breath, remove equipment and boat durability, ignore inventory weight, speed up boats and make Witcher Sense a toggle. Each component can be changed separately rather than treating the preset as one locked mode.

Photo Mode receives a similarly broad expansion. Players can place characters, choose poses and expressions, save camera positions, change aspect ratio, use a first-person view, control weather and time of day, hide nearby NPCs and place props.

Platform features diverge

On PC, the remaster adds path tracing, DLSS 4.5 with Ray Reconstruction, FSR 4, XeSS 2.0 and ray-traced HairWorks. CD Projekt Red warns that the game's system requirements have changed, so the free upgrade does not mean existing hardware will necessarily run the new options at the same settings.

PlayStation 5 Pro support includes PSSR, variable refresh rate and uncapped frame-rate options. CD Projekt Red lists a ray-tracing mode targeting 60 frames per second and a performance mode targeting 60 fps with support for up to 90 fps on VRR displays.

Switch 2 receives the most distinct control work: handheld, Pro Controller, dual Joy-Con motion and mouse-sensor playstyles, plus gyro aiming, touch input in menus and maps, HD Rumble, handheld VRR and HDR. Cross-platform mod browsing through mod.io, Ukrainian text localization and Xbox Play Anywhere round out a patch that reaches well beyond higher-resolution assets.
