What kind of algorithms are being implemented on the site?

I've noticed that if I stop to look at something on here while scrolling, the next few articles are related to the same subject. I'm not a huge fan of being guided via algorithm, so I'd like some transparency as promised on that? Are there algorithms being used or is it just a coincidence?
