Read "Silent Spring" by the inimitable Rachel Carson, not only to read about how we drove the Osprey (and countless other) spectacular species to the edge of extinction (and lost many forever) through our use of DDT and other chemicals, but also because it is one of the most beautifully written books you will ever read. "One way to open your eyes is to ask yourself, 'What if I had never seen this before? What if I knew I would never see it again?'" [Rachel Carson]

It's sad there isn't more osprey around where I live, the south east United States. The papermill industry kills every aquatic creature and fish. That's not an exaggeration. Yes I use paper, but there is ways to produce it without the environment impact and they just don't do it. And no, I'm not going to become an activist.

That's awesome. Reminds of when I saw the YF-17 flying demonstrations at NAS MIRIMAR during the mid 70's. Thanks.

I was lucky enough to see an osprey flying low over a large “resaca” in my hometown and without missing a beat plunge his talons around a fish and fly off as if nothing happened. I have never forgotten that event back when I was in Cub Scouts and now a ripe 77-year old man. Unfortunately, developers saw that resaca as prime housing sites and a gorgeous piece of raw land has disappeared forever.

This bird is equipped with water proof feathers, but it has limited time when submerged. He has to act quick, it's a in and out operation in less than 39 seconds!!

This osprey was lucky. It was pulled underwater. Sometimes ospreys drown because once hooked to a fish, they are unable to let go
