‘Human composting’ bill draws bipartisan support in New Hampshire • New Hampshire Bulletin
Although this is legal in lots of states, it isn't possible for a long time after legalization because the process is complex and (often) proprietary. The upside is that it gets people talking about final disposition in a way that nothing else does.
The New Hampshire Bulletin reports on a bipartisan bill, House Bill 1457, introduced by Rep. Jessica LaMontagne to legalize natural organic reduction, or 'human composting,' in New Hampshire. This alternative to traditional cremation and burial involves placing a body in a specialized container with plant matter to break it down into nutrient-rich soil. The bill, which has gained support from both Democrats and Republicans, aims to provide families with a 'green' funeral option and support local funeral providers. The practice has already been legalized in 14 states, including Vermont and Maine, and is gaining interest nationwide, with about 61.4% of Americans considering 'green' funeral options.
