A recently published index by Transparency International β which scored 180 countries and territories from zero (highly corrupt) to 100 (clean) β has revealed which parts of the world are perceived by experts and businesspeople to have the highest levels of public sector corruption.

The average corruption score across all 180 countries and territories analyzed is just 43 out of 100. More than two-thirds of countries received scores of below 50, and most countries have made "no progress or declined in the last decade," according to the index.

The countries perceived to have the lowest level of public sector corruption in 2023 were Denmark, Finland and New Zealand.

The most corrupt country, on the other hand, is Somalia, with a score of just 11, followed by Syria, Venezuela and South Sudan, which all scored 13.
