Using data from the UN, CNN and Our World In Data, Visual Capitalist charted how homicide rates have changed in the US, Europe and the UK between 2000 and 2020.

Back in 2000, Europe's homicide rate stood at 7.8 per 100,000 people, compared to 5.5 in the US. Twenty years later, the homicide rate in Europe dropped to around 2.4, while the US's remained high at 6.4.

Homicide rates in the UK have remained consistently low, falling from 1.6 in 2000 to just 1.0 in 2020.

Since 2006, the US has had a higher homicide rate than the whole of Europe.

The US doesn't have a crime problem. It has a guns and law enforcement problem.
