Using data from World Atlas, StatsPanda ranked the deadliest animals in the world, based on the number of humans they kill per year.

The creature humans should perhaps fear the most is the mosquito, which kills an estimated one million people yearly via mosquito-borne diseases such as malaria, dengue, West Nile virus and yellow fever.

Humans are apparently their own worst enemies, killing the second-highest number of people a year (around 475,000 homicides). The third-deadliest animal is the snake, whose venomous bite causes roughly 50,000 deaths each year.

I just read on Science Friday's site that freshwater snails are responsible for over 200,000 deaths/year.

  4. This chart under counts humans. Over a million people are killed by people driving cars each year.
