A United Nations projection estimates that 19 of the 20 countries estimated to faced the biggest population decline are in the Eastern hemisphere.

Key Takeaways

  • Cuba is the only country from the Western hemisphere in the top 20 countries expected to have a population decline over the next few decades. Indicators that support these claims include very low immigration rate (0.1 percent of total population) and fertility rate (1.7 children per woman), which is among the lowest in Latin America.

  • Three countries are expected to see their populations decline by more than 20 percent between 2020 and 2050: Bulgaria, Lithuania and Latvia.

  • Visual Capitalist also points out that Japan is an outlier from Asia. Japan's birth rates have fallen since 1970 and its population began shrinking a decade ago. Last year there were 811,604 babies born in Japan and 1.44 million deaths.

You cannot really blame China for not wanting any kids. Specially when they become more educated. No t wanting kids becomes the norm when people have higher education. Plus the world is becoming harsh and unpredictable not only with the weather, politics, economic and so much doom and gloom that you need to think twice to bring up a child in this kind of setting. Sorry folks I can not bare to think that my child will have to suffer in this unfavorable new world that's ahead of them. Welcome to the New World Order and the fourth industrialized revolution. Not a pretty sight for the next generation of humans.

China is likely left out because citizens are not allowed to leave. Very tightly controlled emigration.

The article is based on guesswork projections done by United Nations. Their projections for China are at
    https://population.un.org/wpp/Graphs/Probabilistic/POP/TOT/156
Select China > Probabalistic Projections > Population > Total Population
They show a very broad range of possible futures, ranging from 2050 pop of 1.2 billion up to 1.45 billion. The article didnt explain which of these paths were chosen for all countries.
If they chose "median", the brightest line on the chart, the 2050 prediction is 1.33B, which is 7% lower than the 2020 actual number. 7% is less than the expected loss in Italy (-10%), the 20th and least-affected country that made the top 20 for their article.
There are of course lots of problems with making these projections and then picking one number.

Is this doctored? Where is China? They have huge problem because of the One Child Policy they implemented for so long, and now that many Chinese are middle-class, they have no interest in having more than one child because of how expensive it is,
