Flowers after the rain. Millions of them.

In the north-west of South Africa, Namaqualand appears dry and dusty for much of the year.  After the winter rains, the landscape transforms as millions of flowers bloom, creating a carpet of color stretching across the horizon. This picture was taken by Davide Zanchettin and

Photographing one of the most remote places on Earth

Photographer Kevin Hall embarked on a once-in-a-lifetime expedition to Ittoqqortoormiit, Greenland, one of the most remote communities in the world. Located 800km from the nearest town and frozen for nine months a year, the village offers a glimpse into life at the edge of the world. Hall's journey, organized by photographer Joshua Holko, involved traveling by dogsled, snowmobile, and helicopter to capture the stark beauty of the polar landscape and the resilience of its Inuit inhabitants. Despite the challenges, Hall gained a deeper appreciation for the community's way of life and the impact of climate change and geopolitical tensions on their future.

About

This is where we share places that might make you stop and stare - strange, forgotten, beautiful, unsettling, or simply hard to believe. Not typical holiday destinations or crowded landmarks, but locations with a story, a mystery, or a sense of wonder.

Please feel free to suggest how we should develop on our latest Community Open Floor post.

Community Guidelines

I’m sure these will develop as the community develops, but for now a few simple guidelines tp go with Digg's own:

Stay on topic
Posts should feature unusual, remarkable, or thought-provoking places from around the world. This isn’t a space for standard holiday destinations, travel deals, or promotion.

Add context
Tell us why a place is amazing. A short explanation, history, or interesting detail adds real value. A picture is great, but a link to a stimulating in-depth article is much, much better!

Be nice
Places are often tied to cultures, beliefs, and real people. Treat subjects - and each other - with curiosity and respect.

Quality over quantity
Thoughtful posts are encouraged. Clickbait, reposts, or low-effort submissions may be removed.

Take part
This is a community, not just a feed. Comment, ask questions, and join the discussion.

If a place makes people say “I didn’t know that existed”, you’re probably posting in the right place.
