Alberta legislation could pave way for two-tiered health-care system, new report says | CBC News
Alberta government dismisses report’s findings as ‘collection of NDP talking points’.
A new report by the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives and the Parkland Institute claims that Alberta's Bill 11 could lead to a two-tiered health-care system, similar to the one in the U.S. The report argues that the bill could undermine the single-payer system in Alberta and potentially violate the Canada Health Act. The Alberta government, however, maintains that the dual practice model is widely used in other countries and could benefit Albertans by decreasing wait times. The federal government has stated it will protect the Canada Health Act and Canada’s universal health-care system.
