@yudapearl @PeterDiamandis LLM's are a revolution in Library Science!

They operate over inherited human knowledge, but that is not the same thing as creating new conceptual schema.

A reader asked for my take on @PeterDiamandis post AI WILL DELIVER WISDOM. Diamandis envisions a future world in which an AI system knows everything about every individual on the planet, its anatomy, its beliefs, its neural architecture etc. Once this knowledge is encoded electronically, the system can simulate it under various conditions and predict how the entire planet population would behave under hypothetical conditions of interest-- the result of this simulation is what we call WISDOM. IOW, whatever virtue we find in the wisdom of our parents, teachers or village elders could be extracted from that simulation -- great! Unfortunately, such omni knowledge is not available anywhere, not even in the minds of all living mammals, including sapience. All we have today are results of some observations, some experiments, some theories or narratives articulated by our sages and scientists, and a logic of combining observations, experiments and narratives, to answer some narrow set of questions about the population. To take such a combination of knowledge fragments and figure out how the world's population would react to a new drug or new foreign policy one needs to read The Book of Why. Luckily, it's available; encoded both electronically and on papyrus. @GaryMarcus @eliasbareinboim @DavidDeutschOxf @ConjectureInst @sapinker
