An Oct. 17 quote post called “distillation” “the word of 2026” while sharing OpenCode’s security-breach announcement.
OpenCode said a breach related to a “large scale distillation attack” had affected 1.4% of OpenCode Console users, a subset who had external providers linked. The company said it had notified affected users by email. At the time of its Oct. 17 announcement, it described the incident as ongoing and said it was working with Anthropic, OpenAI and Google to remediate it.
A separate post challenged the terminology, questioning the use of “distillation” for what the author described as a cyberattack to steal API keys. The author said it was unclear how the volume involved related to model training.
