badwithcomputer, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7I'd guess at least a few thousand...word travels fast. I think they planned this- it's like Showtime leaking Weeds episodes before the season to generate good Internet buzz. Probably the best thing that could happen for a video game.

  I really think this is just a dumb mistake by toys r us. And if you ask me, having 1 store sell a couple thousand copies doesn't really help that much. All it does is lets the pirates get to the game before the legitimate crowd. On the other hand, if take two just said screw it, and let other stores sell their copies now, I think that would lead to some increased hype, especially since everyone seems to love the demo so much.

If you live in a rural area and its a long drive to the nearest gamestop or ebgames then yeah, it sucks. But me, I have an eb games literally a 5 minute walk away, plus no credit card which means that steam is useless anyway.

Retailers order X copies based on how much they expect to sell, under the assumption they will be able to start selling them the same day as every one else. Breaking this is just not a good way to do business (between publishers and retailers).

Apparently the PC version wasn't leaked early so that one is safe, also the online activation will stop it from being released early. But the console version being sold early isn't a HUGE deal. Apparently it was only a few Toys R Us stores, cause I went to the one here in Vancouver as SOON as I saw the original article, and they told me the game wasn't out until the 21st. So its only probably a few hundred copies at most, out of probably hundreds of thousands waiting for this game. So honestly, I don't think it will have a HUGE impact on this game. And there are way less modded xbox's then not so I really doubt it will be a huge deal on the xbox 360 of things as well.

Some stores went and sold it early (although the games weren't playable until the official time of release due to Steam) anyway, people then wondered whether VALVe would forward the release date because of this. They didn't. I'd be surprised if a company did, they stick to the dates they give (most of the time in VALVe's case, well some of the time).

I have played the demo, and while the atmosphere of the game is cool, it struck me as a combo of Doom 3 (WAY too ***** dark), Deus Ex (glowing ***** you poke in your arm), FEAR (scary little girl), and Half Life. Or in other words... Not Really That Original (TM). I might pick it up used but I really can't see paying 60-70 bucks for it.
