- RoadDoggFL, on 03/27/2008, -6/+24Wow, they broke up our Friends List into a bunch of pages.
Amazing.- theaceoffire, on 03/27/2008, -5/+18So that no one else will be forced to go through it:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1) My Xbox Main Page
The My Xbox main page has seen a significant amount of changes.
Gamercards are listed simply to the side while a comparison widget scrolls through the recent games of a selected friend in your list.
The right side shows the five most recently online friends and lists what they are tasks they are engaged in (ie. playing a game) on their connected Xbox 360.
Quick links to profile management, recent players and the message center (which will list unread messages next to the link) can be found below these new areas and above the advertising space on Xbox.com.
2)Manage Your Profile
The profile manager hasn't changed from it's original state. The only differences are cosmetic, as in the spiffy new background!
3)Compare Achievements by Game
Since it already accomplished what it was meant to do, comparing achievements has seen no new features added.
4)Achievement Summary
The achievement summary list has seen no upgrades.
All games are listed on the same page and clicking a single title will bring up that achievement list.
5)Friends List
Friends lists are now broken up into multiple pages for easier navigation.
Other than breaking the lists into groups of 16 Gamertags, this page has seen no other changes.
6)Recent Players
Like the friends list, recent players have been broken down into groups of 16 Gamertags.
From the recent players list you can examine, compare achievements and add friends to your Xbox Live account.
7)Message Center
The message center still displays all messages you've received on the same page. From their gamers can still access any text messages (audio messages are still not playable via Xbox.com) and visit a sender's profile.
8)Friends of Friends
Now gamers can check out friend lists of their friends via the newly added link to any Xbox gamer profile.
Once opened, the friends of friends list works the same as your own. You may examine, compare and even add friends to your own list via this option.
*sigh* There was no reason for about half of these.- MaverickAlex, on 03/27/2008, -18/+2There is no reason for owning a Xbox, never mind upgrading it.
- Nath2k7, on 03/27/2008, -0/+8?????
- hmunkey, on 03/27/2008, -1/+7I own one to play games. Heard of them?
- theaceoffire, on 03/27/2008, -5/+18So that no one else will be forced to go through it:
- kurupttek, on 03/27/2008, -10/+3Ugh!
- Nerve55, on 03/27/2008, -9/+1Amazing.
- NegativeS, on 03/27/2008, -8/+3Eh...yippee? Nothing really that special.
- MillionsLivio, on 03/27/2008, -0/+60It looks cleaner and overall more efficient, but who the hell needs a guide for this?
- chris9902, on 03/27/2008, -1/+18Nobody but bloggers who don't have any real news to source just spend all day posting ***** like this.
- RetepNamenots, on 03/27/2008, -8/+4Fanboys.
- RetepNamenots, on 03/27/2008, -1/+5Why bury me? The site's called xbox360FANBOY!
- rikwakefield, on 03/27/2008, -3/+1I got the joke :-)
- RetepNamenots, on 03/27/2008, -1/+5Why bury me? The site's called xbox360FANBOY!
- woodychris, on 03/27/2008, -3/+6The better question is.. How the hell did this make front page on digg?
- bejayel, on 03/27/2008, -8/+112 year olds who ***** every mom/dad/black guy/dog/whatever their dick fits in on the planet, which makes up about 99% of the Xbox360 population
- jsmith39, on 03/27/2008, -1/+5Thank God I'm a 1 percenter
- candafilm, on 03/27/2008, -1/+4Wow that's the biggest 1% I've ever seen.
- slightlygifted, on 03/27/2008, -6/+53xbox.com > playstation.com
- theaceoffire, on 03/27/2008, -5/+10http://zombo.com > xbox.com
- ronnsprocket, on 03/27/2008, -1/+8isn't it strange that the playstation.com homepage has a xbox360 looking shape overlayed?
- bejayel, on 03/27/2008, -10/+3Thats the standard shape for the flattened out globe *****. I'd ask if your 12, but you play use a 360 so, question answered.
- finaldrumgod, on 03/27/2008, -1/+4You're an idiot.
- nobelief, on 03/27/2008, -0/+4you "play use"
yeah, you're a definite PS3 moron
- aladrin, on 03/27/2008, -1/+2Actually, I do find it a little disconcerting, but I don't think it was on purpose. That's a pretty basic design shape.
- bejayel, on 03/27/2008, -10/+3Thats the standard shape for the flattened out globe *****. I'd ask if your 12, but you play use a 360 so, question answered.
- gmprunner, on 03/27/2008, -2/+14I don't like the new design. It feels much too cramped. They tried to squeeze previously roomy stuff, like the "Compare to a friend" thing, into a little, automatically-scrolling thingamajig that I think is unnecessary. Overall, they tightened up stuff so much that lots of space is going un-utilized. I really wish they had decided to put lots of info onto one front page instead of on lots of sub-pages. Personally, I'd take scrolling down a single big page over clicking through a bunch of smaller pages any day.
And putting the friends list on multiple pages? Why? Isn't that a step backwards in terms of efficiency?- Thayer75, on 03/27/2008, -0/+5I don't like the new friend's list format either and let xbox.com know via the feedback link on the bottom of their webpage. If enough users object they may switch it back in a future update.
- PedleZelnip, on 03/28/2008, -0/+2Depends on how you look at it: usually when you're looking at your friends list you're only interested in seeing who's online. I'd wager that at any given time most people won't have more than 16 friends online so that first page they'll see all they're interested in and nothing more. From MS's perspective that means less bandwidth as say you have (like me) 50 or so friends in your friends list. If all my friends online are on one page, then they only serve up one page containing (at most) 16 friends, as opposed to one BIG page with 50+ friends in it.
Personally I'd rather see two separate links: one to a page showing all online friends, and one showing a list of all friends (online or offline).
- Heaiser, on 03/27/2008, -2/+9So, can I change it back to the way it was?
- theWrkncacnter, on 03/27/2008, -10/+1thought it said xkcd.com ... wow it's late
- dheaddy, on 03/27/2008, -1/+4Looks like they've tightened up the graphics
- inajeep, on 03/27/2008, -2/+2It's faster and that alone made it worth while and if you don't have a lot of friends you not gonna mind them splitting up the list of friends. I like that I can see recent players and their friends if you like although I don't have a practical reason for it unless I'm gonna file a complaint or block them from the 360 at a later date.
- bjswick, on 03/27/2008, -3/+1It's a nice change. I like the increased performance!
- Intangible360, on 03/27/2008, -0/+4I do not like this new look at all, and having my friends list split over multiple pages is also a huge pain in the ass.
Also there's huge amounts of wasted space and the xbox.com advertising of events/articles etc. "box" feels completely out of place now and takes up way too much space relative to the actually useful stuff. It definitely feels like a huge step backwards.- HolyChimp, on 03/27/2008, -0/+1This is where Microsofts lack of effort in the UK comes in handy. Set your region to United Kingdom and you don't get any of the ads, just the top 3 boxes. Hurrah!
- gowans007, on 03/27/2008, -0/+14I dont like it either. MS give us real social network pages like this:
http://xs225.xs.to/xs225/08134/xboxproto594.jpg- Jeffler, on 03/27/2008, -0/+2I like that, a LOT.
- gowans007, on 03/27/2008, -0/+3Thanks,
I knocked it together after the change as an example of the direction I would like them to take as a user myself.
More widget based for users maybe even going on to add clan, gaming calenders, game states, photots etc.. into it.- DollofWar, on 03/27/2008, -0/+2Nicely done. Maybe you should submit that to MS. That looks like the direction that would want to take but don't seem savvy enough to throw it together like you have.
- bejayel, on 03/27/2008, -3/+1I thought the xbox was about games, not social networking. If i wanted social networking i would visit facebook.
- TheLeeDynasty, on 03/28/2008, -0/+2The Windows Live system is based off what Xbox Live did socially. Microsoft is trying to turn Live into a huge social network with all kinds of products (i.e Live Hotmail, Messenger, Xbox Live).
- PedleZelnip, on 03/28/2008, -0/+1I really like it, but there's one big drawback (from MS's POV): no area for ads.
- exomni, on 03/27/2008, -1/+6Wow, what a stupid idea. How is it an "upgrade" to have to click through multiple pages just to find a friend?
- emosewami, on 03/27/2008, -1/+3I'm sorry, I'm usually a fan of X3F but this is just lame - and has been buried as such. A simple blog post would have been good enough to explain the changes - not a full blown guide with gallery. "This page has seen no other changes" shows up more than actual changes, I mean c'mon!
- offwhite, on 03/27/2008, -9/+1Step 1) Get a Wii
- smackafiyah, on 03/27/2008, -2/+2Step 2) Sell it
- Borgcube, on 03/27/2008, -1/+1Step 3) Profit!!
- chrisintoronto, on 04/13/2008, -0/+0no! I HAD STEP 3!!!!
- Borgcube, on 03/27/2008, -1/+1Step 3) Profit!!
- chrisintoronto, on 04/13/2008, -0/+0Step 3) Get an actual console. Suggestions: Playstation 3, or Xbox 360.
- smackafiyah, on 03/27/2008, -2/+2Step 2) Sell it
- bejayel, on 03/27/2008, -2/+7Burried as "Why the ***** is this even on the front page?"
- MaverickAlex, on 03/27/2008, -12/+2Burried as "Why the ***** would you want an Xbox anyways?"
- Thorpe, on 03/28/2008, -0/+4Buried for "being a troll."
- FOXDIE4815, on 03/27/2008, -7/+0hey ps3 is getting an online upgrade too! is it just me or are all consoles the same?
- Thorpe, on 03/28/2008, -0/+2No, the PS3 also works great as a BBQ in the summer.
- chrisintoronto, on 04/13/2008, -0/+0all consoles SHOULD be the same. I mean imagine how much better games would be if developers didnt have to waste time on optimizing for different consoles?
- OwlBoy, on 03/27/2008, -2/+2Lame, half the Walk-through was telling us something did not change.
- allfatherblack, on 03/27/2008, -1/+1Hmmm none of these upgrades are particularly good. The friends list change made me chuckle though. Yeah you all have 70 REAL LIFE friends so you need that upgrade. Its definitely NOT that you accept any friend invite that comes your way. Tools :D
- snarkman, on 03/28/2008, -1/+1f*ck xbox.com upgrade walk through. epic f*ck
- mbauer14, on 03/28/2008, -0/+0not really necessary at all, though good to see xbox.com is always improving. i now take for granted being able to type out a message and send to all friends using a computer... how times have changed.
- brocknation, on 03/30/2008, -1/+0this is great and all, but Microsoft should concentrate on correcting the Backward Compatibility issues with the huge list posted on their website, one being Marvel vs Capcom 2. I'm really seeing a PS3 in my future!
- Christbait, on 04/05/2008, -0/+1but the real question is... Is it still slow as *****?
- chrisintoronto, on 04/13/2008, -0/+0it is still slow as *****, and the psn theme is way better than the xbox live theme in terms of artstyle.
what was the microsoft team thinking? green and gold? so tacky.
but anyways good on them for trying to make the user experience better.
