Xbox Live collapses under weight of Halo 3

forums.xbox.com — So much for building a sufficient infrastructure. It appears that several parts of Xbox Live are failing due to quantity of Halo 3 players. Right now less than 1000 players listed as being online in Halo 3. There were more online over weekend before official launch.

I don't think anyone is dissing MS for this, mostly just amazed that the popularity of Halo3 was enough to bring down the giant. When it comes to large networks, huge server farms and monster internet connections, Microsoft is one of the biggest. They handle pumping out patches and updates several Megabytes in size to 95+% of the worlds computers without a hiccup.

  • inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+13Ya I thought the same thing. When I first got on there were about 12k people playing, almost all on the East Coast. I watched it creep westward and it peaked around 120k that night. The highest I saw it the next day was around 310k.

It seems the RRoD is the only failure mode with the extended warranty. We taped up the vents and left it on for about an hour and luckily got it to RRoD.
