- inactive, on 11/24/2007, -5/+47What's next? Nothing, just keep pwnage of PlayStation Network on.
- LaSepultura, on 11/24/2007, -2/+41I think a good idea and also a good business move for Microsoft would be to delete everyone's account who hasn't logged on in 3 years.
That way the good names get released and the existing members can use the feature where you pay to change your name. - ThatEvilGuy, on 11/24/2007, -1/+23Dedicated servers maybe?
- sammykeyes, on 11/24/2007, -2/+19I really wish Microsoft would just use regular currency instead of Microsoft Points. It's too hard to calculate Microsoft Points everytime to make sure you're getting what it's worth. It's a hassle and I hate dealing with it.
Plus, how much is 1 cent to Microsoft Points? And how much if 4 cents, huh?
They do this with Zune Marketplace as well, but most people know that 79 points there = 99 cents. If only Microsoft would do away with the stupid Points system. I know I'm not the only one who hates it. - hassanchop13, on 11/24/2007, -3/+20online console* gaming
- mayan, on 11/24/2007, -5/+20Downloadable XBOX games ..... very cool - for those with hard drives. DROP THE CORE/ARCADE SKU.
IPTV could be cool if they don't charge me $4 an episode. Oh wait I mean 320 MS points.
XNA Creators Club would be great if I didn't have to pay $99 a year for a membership to play someone's pong clone on my 360.
Live anywhere? Hah! That'll happen when Velocity girl shows me the level she made wi- .......... oh.
Good to know that the $50 I pay a year is only good for my _QUALITY_ peer-to-peer connections, advertisement riddled blades, and the _PRIVILEGE_ of downloading extra content (*cough* 3 maps for $10 *cough*). Gee, the future looks great! - cavie2002, on 11/24/2007, -4/+18maybe make it free after all the advertising they put up
- DellDrEvil, on 11/24/2007, -1/+12Now... If they could only make a console that doesn't have a 34% failure rate!
- tethead, on 11/24/2007, -7/+18been with em over 5 years (1st wave beta tester), they have revolutionized online gaming and look only to continue their domination...
- MyNamesTaken, on 11/24/2007, -1/+11you sound like a retard. go back to school
- VALKYREMISSILE, on 11/24/2007, -1/+115 years of endless good times
- PunkRampant, on 11/24/2007, -2/+11They could still let you purchase a certain amount of "credits" - it would just be nice if those credits were represented by real dollars and not an arbitrary points system.
- iamexcite, on 11/24/2007, -0/+7I've always assumed this is completely intentional. If you separate the real value from the fake currency, the "points" become play money--even more so if you're not the one footing the bill.
Sure, people get annoyed with having to deal with conversions, but I would be very surprised if there wasn't an in-depth market survey and user study involved with coming up with the ratio they're using.
obligatory Office reference:
What’s the ratio of Stanley nickels to Schrute bucks?
Same as the ratio of unicorns to leprechauns. - Dgen_X, on 11/24/2007, -1/+8Dedicates servers are great....until 6+ months after the game is released and someone decides that it's not economically feasible to keep them up and running.
- maiku00, on 11/24/2007, -6/+12how about free service since we have to stare at all the ***** ads all day long. Not to mention Sony's same service doesn't cost a god damn dime out of your pocket every month.
- inactive, on 11/24/2007, -1/+7did it upset you?
- PunkRampant, on 11/24/2007, -0/+5Then at that point just hand over hosting back to the players. At $50/year we should at least be getting dedicated servers on the most popular games.
- eMximeR, on 11/24/2007, -0/+5"And since the 360 is foremost a gaming platform, Live will continue to be gaming-centric until MS breaks free from it."
Umm... That's what a gaming console is used for, gaming. I don't want to browse the web or any other crap with it, I just want to play online games on my 360. And it does that well. - frygar, on 11/24/2007, -1/+6Because the ads on the 360 are about as pleasant to deal with as those dirty-faced kids carrying the giant blue tubs - you know, the ones full of coloring books and month-old chocolate turtles - banging on my door at 10 am on a Saturday and trying to sell ***** to me at $5 a piece. "Why yes, mud-caked urchin in a ripped Power Rangers season 1 t-shirt, I would love to buy a box of broken "Crayolta" crayons, the quality simply speaks for itself!"
It's really ***** obnoxious, especially when you factor in that YOU'RE PAYING TO BE ADVERTISED TO. Either make Live free and keep the adverts, or allow players who pay the $50/year to choose not to see the adverts (and instead the background they put up, or even paid for). - Durrok, on 11/24/2007, -0/+5A: A job.
- mal1964, on 11/24/2007, -1/+5Its come a long way in five years, made a big 360 from its beginning.
- smacksaw, on 11/24/2007, -0/+4I'll tell you what's next:
#1 free
#2 pioneer integration with cross-gaming platforms like PC, Mac and Linux so that titles that appear on those platforms can be played as multiplayer with 360 owners
Then we'd all be pwned. Like owned, but with immense amounts of power applied to that sense of complete and utter dominance and ownership of another person for the 1.2 seconds it takes for them to fall down and respawn and completely forget about the kill while they finish you off since you are almost dead and become pwned yourself. - inactive, on 11/24/2007, -0/+4Sorry this is kind of not related, but you reminded me of this. One day I stopped getting ads on my 360... all together.. its like I installed adblock.. I have no idea why this happens... I dont even get the list of featured downloads. anybody else?
- volacide, on 11/24/2007, -0/+4Estvir there's Steam, Xfire, and many others, but either way, I don't want that XBL experience on my PC, it just wouldn't make sense to have something like that.
- Richandler, on 11/24/2007, -2/+5So who paid for all five years?
- Raytown, on 11/24/2007, -0/+3Because Microsoft has a reputation of trying not only to make a profit but MAXIMIZE IT AT ANY COST :(
- diggrim, on 11/24/2007, -0/+3yes, they "revolutionized" by showing the business world that gamers will pay for a game service to play games that they already paid for...double charging ftw
- staticblake, on 11/24/2007, -1/+4Or maybe keep gold and silver accounts separate? Some douche who has 30 silver accounts shouldn't be allowed to horde all the decent gamertags.
- staticblake, on 11/25/2007, -0/+3If you can't figure out how to use the reply feature you should worry about more significant problems. Console multiplayer hasn't existed for decades...XBL is a good service at $50 a year. Yes, it would be nice if it were free, but having it a pay-for-service entitles customers to a certain level of service.
- smacksaw, on 11/24/2007, -0/+3I think that's half the reason they did a sort of hands-off with XBOX (as well as a few other divisions they have). That way once it's successful they can ***** it up later...LOL
- supertom, on 11/24/2007, -0/+3We don't get movies and TV shows on Live here in the UK.
- nathanson666, on 11/24/2007, -0/+3MOHAA on Gamespy was awesome.
- stray, on 11/24/2007, -0/+3I'd like to see aliases for friends (like some IM clients have). I have so many people in my Friends list, and I play with some so rarely, that I have trouble keeping track of who's who.
Other than that, I love Xbox Live. People complained when it was launched about having to pay for it, but the service is top-notch in reliability, features and just plain fun. Bravo, Microsoft; you finally found something (other than Windows and Office) that you can excel at! - Pureeviljester, on 11/25/2007, -0/+2stfu, he didn't say anything about PS3. and i won't pay for online either, which is why i never got into WoW and think it's a BS game.
XBL: Making us more expensive without you knowing it. - MonkeyFit, on 11/24/2007, -1/+3ok, so what happens when you want to upgrade your silver account only to find the name is already taken by someone with a gold account? Or you need to stop paying for a while and downgrade to silver but some douche already took that name?
- djrbx, on 11/25/2007, -0/+2Hay, those adds people complain about arn't that bad. They remind me to get a game that I wanted to get but forget to cause I was busy doing something else. On, top of that, they also inform me of new games and content I could be interested in. There are a couple of games in the XBLA for example that I would have never purchased if not of the adds attracting me to play it, and I don't regret it one bit cause the games we're surprisingly fun.
- Sk0pe, on 11/24/2007, -0/+2There are not two separate pools of names - one for gold, one for silver. If a name is silver, and always has been, it just means it hasn't been used for a gold account - maybe it should be deleted since it looks like it will never BE upgraded. Of course, if that account has achievement points, then it should not be deleted.
- OllyHagen, on 11/24/2007, -0/+2calm down, i think its pretty cool
- nightmare1228, on 11/24/2007, -0/+2This is why I don't use a credit card with Microsoft. I go out and buy the pre-paid cards for points and live. Saves me the hassle of calling them and being on the phone for an hour if I ever need to cancel.
- counterplex, on 11/24/2007, -1/+3I'm not an xbox user but even I spotted a number of issues with what you said. Those issues are, of course, above and beyond the seriously disjointed and confusing way you expressed yourself.
First, XBL is a fairly decent experience that was available to consoles well before the PSN or Wii were around.
Second, Halo is not available for the PS3 or the Wii - it's an xbox360-exclusive title. If you're referring to first-person shooters in general, then you have a point but you don't make it well.
Third, the absence of a human face on the main character of a first-person shooter is hardly unique to Halo 3. Off the top of my head, Metroid 3 on Wii has a similar flaw as would e.g. Call of Duty 4 on PS3 or even PC.
Fourth, while xbox360s have been plagued with the red ring of death, PS3's have had a dearth of games and the Wii suffers from a lack of adequate supply, that puts all those consoles at a disadvantage which all three of them have or are planning to fix shortly.
Finally, all this is coming from a die hard PC fan who could care less about the console battle :) - Pureeviljester, on 11/25/2007, -0/+2aazn i pwned you in your reply to the first comment. refer to it again.
and we are over exaggerating aren't we?
Ps3 = 500
360 + 3 years = 510
wanna watch a hi def movie out of the box? oh wait, you can't.
stop accepting checks from M$ cause you suck at representing them on digg - Christbait, on 11/24/2007, -4/+6Why do people complain about the ads? They compliment the blades quite nicely seeing as they're actually RELEVANT to XBOX360 and not things related to thai brides and penis enlargements.
- neATL, on 11/25/2007, -0/+2you cant say "same service" because SONY's service isnt anything like Xbox Live. That large amount of $5 a month is sending people straight to the poor house I see.
- StealthStrike, on 11/24/2007, -0/+2yea!!!... no how about not since playstations network pownage has been crap for more than five years
- aazn, on 11/24/2007, -0/+2Some of the adverts are Microsoft-based. i.e. the Xbox 360 all-nighter event was an ad that they put up. Actually a lot of them are.
- aazn, on 11/24/2007, -0/+2The newest generation has the 65nm chips that don't fail.
- shit, on 11/25/2007, -0/+2Be sure to get your Live Free or Die Hard gamerpics and themes!
- Christbait, on 11/24/2007, -1/+3You sir, are officially the dumbest ***** on Digg. It's amazing how you managed to switch your macbook on let alone type digg.com into the adress bar.
- Christbait, on 11/24/2007, -0/+2Except for the Xbox team. Microsoft are a bunch of fat old men who have no clue about the fast moving world today, what do you expect?
