- Dutchess9, on 02/28/2009, -8/+271She probably put lesbian on your profile so she wouldn't get so many guys sending stupid messages about cybering or randomly adding her cause she is a girl. Its an epidemic on Xbox live.
- PhillyOC, on 02/28/2009, -23/+201I'm not saying that banning her was appropriate, but if you think about it, how appropriate is it to announce your sexuality, whether it be gay, straight, bi or anything else, in an atmosphere that caters to many children and quite frankly, nobody gives a ***** because of it's extreme irrelevance to what people go there for?
If my screen name was "Philly Straight Guy", you would think I was some ***** idiot who was so insecure about my sexuality that I had to announce it for all.
Please people, keep it light. Leave politics, religion, and sexuality out of gaming and other inappropriate places. Nobody wants to hear it but yourself.
EDIT: I have to quote locdogg from an above threaded post, because it is very appropriate yet they put it where it cannot be easily seen:
Quote: "I often try to bring up my sexual orientation in various and unrelated situations. It's the single measure by which I define my person, having no other interesting characteristics other than my sexuality."
My sentiments exactly locdogg. - refreshers, on 02/28/2009, -5/+178What many of you fail to realize is that she got banned because she was given negative feedback by a bunch of people in a short amount of time, the ban was automatic. Microsoft didn't say "Hey, let's ban that lesbian". The system was just easy to abuse, and this is an example. Microsoft should be blamed for making a faulty reporting system, but not for being anti-lesbian.
- darkheritage, on 02/28/2009, -2/+137yes, three of them, and one's apparently a lesbian.
- WhiteMike87, on 02/28/2009, -6/+130There are girls on Xbox Live?
- 1stmistake, on 02/28/2009, -6/+109I also couldn't care less that you're from philly. Keep your inappropriate cheezsteak eating lifestyle to yourself.
- DryCat, on 02/28/2009, -0/+82"repeatedly harassed"
So she was getting the same xbox live experience we all get. - iSinned, on 02/28/2009, -5/+75Or maybe she put it because she was actually a lesbian?
Just a thought. - inactive, on 02/28/2009, -16/+85I often try to bring up my sexual orientation in various and unrelated situations. It's the single measure by which I define my person, having no other interesting characteristics other than my sexuality.
- TwoD311, on 02/28/2009, -4/+72i just think it's funny that i've been called every form of gay 5 million times on XBL and the one person it's not an insult to they ban.
- NyteStarNyne, on 02/28/2009, -12/+72I think it's BS how companies sit on their hands on a mistake until it becomes public. It's never sincere and always about damage control.
- ProfessorSYM, on 02/28/2009, -9/+67Yeah, what kind of coward apologizes when they are wrong?!
It's like, "***** YOU AMERICA, I AIN'T APOLOGIZIN' FER NUTHIN!!! I'M ALWAYS RIGHT AND I DON'T HAVE TO BE SORRY WHEN I MAKE A MISTAKE!"
/stfu - inactive, on 02/28/2009, -3/+56Microsoft: Could we have a word with you?
Gamer: No.
Microsoft: I must have phrased that badly, my English is, how you say, inelegant. What I meant to say is: "Can we have a brief friendly chat?"
Gamer: No!
Microsoft: Once again I have failed. (brings out a phrase book) "We request the pleasure of your company for a free exchange of ideas."
Gamer: NOOOO! - inactive, on 02/28/2009, -15/+66When ask why she was banned : "Because there too many dicks on Xbox live."
- Gloogle, on 02/28/2009, -7/+56Girl where!?
- lydecker, on 02/28/2009, -8/+51It's so offensive. I had someone I was playing with over XBox live the other day say he was waiting for his girlfriend to get home. EWW! How appropriate is it to announce that you're straight?
/sarcasm
There's nothing wrong with sharing information about yourself. And I'm pretty sure there was probably more on this girl's profile than:
ABOUT ME: I'm a lesbian. - inactive, on 02/28/2009, -6/+46And if a straight guy mentions his girlfriend in his profile, thereby announcing his sexuality to the world, I hope you're equally willing to have him banned.
- thesonofdarwin, on 02/28/2009, -3/+41Darwin does NOT agree. Individuals don't evolve - POPULATIONS do. Don't try to use evolution as backing for your hatred. The combination of those who pass on their genes and those that don't drive evolution. And before you take that last statement and try to bastardize it with something like: "lulz, well they must have bad genes if nature doesn't want them passed on!!!" I encourage you actually try to comprehend the theory before your embarrass yourself again in such a manner as you have here today.
Homosexual and bisexual animals play a role in many, many different animal populations. It's not a trait new to humans. - amnesiac096, on 02/28/2009, -4/+41troll
- jameskong15, on 02/28/2009, -7/+43Why have bios/profiles to begin with then? Nobody gives a ***** about your race, sex, religion, lifestyle, income, background, hometown, etc because of it's extreme irrelevance to what people go there for, right?
- mrgeekguy, on 02/28/2009, -1/+32I'm gonna have to disagree. I bet you could put that you're a 87 year old, one eyed nazi nun whose face was recently ripped off by a monkey, and still you'd get the messages.
- compgeek, on 02/28/2009, -0/+27Dugg up for Simpsons reference
- corytheboyd, on 02/28/2009, -2/+29That is not whats on xbox live at all... this is more like it
http://soccerlens.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/02/t ... - acdcfanbill, on 02/28/2009, -2/+28whoa whoa whoa, don't drag Darwin into this.
- NicoNicoNico, on 02/28/2009, -2/+27@Biscuitz, or maybe it was part of her identity. Some people consider their sexual orientation a statement about who they are.
- inactive, on 02/28/2009, -5/+30the problem is...straight people don't get banned for saying 'I love my girlfriend Jenna' in their profiles.
- akchrs, on 02/28/2009, -2/+25This is whats on Xbox live.
http://loot-ninja.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/c ... - WaffleJesus, on 02/28/2009, -0/+23She probably put lesbian on your profile so she wouldn't get so many guys sending stupid messages about cybering or randomly adding her cause she is a girl.
Xbox live is inhabited by hetro guys and teens plus
Who doesn't love lesbians? - lydecker, on 02/28/2009, -4/+25"It's just that she only put that she was a lesbian in her profile to get attention in one way or another."
So what? So what if a couple mentions that they are married in their profile to get attention in one way or another? I've seen X-Box Live do a gamer spotlight on a married couple, so they obviously are looking to share something outside of GAMING-related material if they're going to tell me the sexual orientation of two gamers on my Spotlight page. They've only mentioned they were married in their profile to get attention in one way or another. Is it silly to put a marriage up where anybody can see on a profile to people who shouldn't care or know?
If gay people weren't gay, they wouldn't get nearly so much crap from people. Straight people mention girlfriends, marriages, kids all the time and don't get crap. And they get featured on X-Box live for it.
(And Averness, maybe you should read my whole post, not just take the last line as a snippet. Also, read my profile to find out I'm male, not a lesbian, and not interested) - gozroth, on 02/28/2009, -2/+23I see your flame, and raise you a poker reference
- lydecker, on 02/28/2009, -1/+21When you report someone, people are given a choice on what to report you for. Offensive profile is one of them, so likely it's what they chose, and it's how Microsoft knows what the person's issues are.
- bmcnally, on 02/28/2009, -3/+23Cutting through the blog spam to a blog that actually matters in this: http://www.stepto.com/Lists/Posts/Post.aspx?List=4 ...
When you look at the rationale, it makes perfect sense - the largest use of the word "gay" is as a slur, not as a statement of sexuality. - voodew42, on 02/28/2009, -5/+25it is a goddamn gaming service, not a dating service, so who gives a #%^&* about your sexual preference
- BigBalledOX, on 02/28/2009, -8/+27I'll surely be flamed and dugg down for this because the headline is intentionally incendiary, but if you read the blog, it clearly states that Microsoft's policy is to ban ALL gamers that identify sexual orientation in their name or profile. While that policy seems odd and heavy-handed, its not like Microsoft is discriminating against non-heterosexual gamers as the headline of this Digg would have you to believe, but rather unilaterally banning anyone who states a relationship preference. Then again, why bother with the facts when you can be sensationalistic and try to get on the front page?
As for the ***** whomever the woman in question spoke with and stated that she was banned because other gamers found her sexuality to be offensive, there's a special place in hell for you. - Bangaarang, on 02/28/2009, -1/+20Christians?
- z00k, on 02/28/2009, -2/+21Also:
http://www.sabiadesign.com/images/external/100_174 ... - PhillyOC, on 02/28/2009, -1/+20I just read it and it seems like they do have quite a dilemma. It's not easy pleasing everybody, in fact, it's ***** impossible.
- inactive, on 02/28/2009, -3/+20Except if a straight person mentions their sexuality, you don't see anyone throwing a hissy fit over that, do you?
- inactive, on 02/28/2009, -3/+20Does it matter?
How is saying 'I ate pizza 3 times today' different from 'I love pizza' in regard to your food preference?
As a man, 'I love my wife' is an obvious implication that you have sex with your wife and you are a heterosexual.
I don't see the difference. - Scotty87, on 02/28/2009, -1/+17fan boys still exists? ... Back in the freeze pod
- theonlywizdum, on 02/28/2009, -7/+23Yes. She was paying for a service, and got banned because xbox live is mostly made up of 12 year old homophobes.
- lydecker, on 02/28/2009, -0/+16Not when I've seen them feature a married couple in the gamer spotlight.
- Paranor01, on 02/28/2009, -0/+15Hybred got buried because there are more than 2 reasons that he/she posted. And what Hybred posted were 2 negative oriented reasons, nothing in the positive.
- MediaCrisis, on 02/28/2009, -0/+15Yeah. We're the ones who don't turn our mics on.
- Chakat, on 02/28/2009, -2/+17@Biscuitz:
So would you consider someone putting that they're married in their profile equally offensive and attention whoreish? - ChonoonFiend, on 02/28/2009, -0/+15Yup. She just actually was gay.
- croxis, on 02/28/2009, -2/+17As someone on another site said, putting in a profile that one is married and has kids not only tells me the sexual preference, but sexual activity as well.
- allisonaxe, on 02/28/2009, -2/+16typical xbox live virgin: "wow, she's old and ugly! I bet she's desperate! I I should give her a try."
- KyloOb, on 02/28/2009, -1/+15You stupid douche, the stories are different; this is about Microsoft's apology.
- WaffleJesus, on 02/28/2009, -3/+17you're one of them
