- inactive, on 01/01/2008, -20/+345Day one I was like... Shut up whiners! Day two I was like... This isn't that bad... Here a week on and Ive missed gaming for the whole of xmas break, and Im like!!! give me a free month of game damnit!
- Frostman3D, on 01/01/2008, -48/+161Xbox live should be free anyway, and eventually it will be when Sony gets a greater online presence.
- killkev, on 01/01/2008, -34/+147I think Microsoft showing people that there are more things in life than video games is more than enough compensation.
- username9000, on 01/01/2008, -21/+101This is a horrible mishap by MS, but to say MS is not acknowledging it is false. Go to Major Nelson's site and you will see constant twitter updates by Major Nelson himself. The upside is when it is fixed there will be thousands of people to play online in most any game. Also, I am sure that MS will compensate people for the lost time somehow.
- salivalnz, on 01/01/2008, -4/+81"..how is Microsoft going to keep me as a customer?"
Easy - you want XBL and they're the only people who sell it. So either you buy from them, or go without. There's no alternative supplier to turn to, and I'm sure if you read the smallprint there'll be some clause regarding limiting liability for failure of the service. - Pyehole, on 01/01/2008, -2/+69Huh, I might be more aware of this problem if it weren't for the fact that FOR THE SECOND YEAR IN A ROW MY 360 WENT ***** UP DURING THE XMAS BREAK.
But I'm not bitter or anything. - Sarawanan, on 01/01/2008, -11/+68Give me 250 MS Points and Ill be happy, need to buy a certain song on Rock Band ;)
- deadbaby, on 01/01/2008, -7/+60Come on people... Microsoft's servers RRoD-ed. Being RMA-ed right now. You know the routine.
- penguinboy08, on 01/01/2008, -5/+53I completely agree, paying for the privilege to host or join servers that are mostly created by other players is *****. Being able to buy things from the market place is cool, but when I buy an xbox game, I expect to be able to use the ENTIRE game.
This is why I'm a PC man. - inactive, on 01/01/2008, -13/+61Why is everyone so upset? I thought the majority of people hate Microsoft. So why would anyone own an Xbox 360?
- dkraneveldt, on 01/01/2008, -3/+47I feel bad for those of you that are affected by it.
New games for christmas, and single player only.
I've been reading this for the past few dayts, and am just so glad it hasn't hit my system.
Hopefully it' s back soon for you guys! - pepperell, on 01/01/2008, -23/+64it's been fine for me...?
- legendxx, on 01/01/2008, -13/+52"...when is it going to be fixed and how is Microsoft going to keep me as a customer?"
I actually spit out my coke when I read that.. Come on what else are you nerds going to do. Go outside? Read a book? Talk to a girl? LOL. Microsoft owns you and they know it. Whine all you want they know you're all pushovers. - Seifey, on 01/01/2008, -2/+39Christmas holidays week, yes.
- RadicalEdward, on 01/01/2008, -8/+45Yes, pay microsoft for xbox live, then go play single player...
- Dgen_X, on 01/01/2008, -15/+49Hmm...I guess my box chose the right time to go all ring of death on me, and I hate to rub it in but...MS is sending back a one month live subscription when my XBox comes back in 3-4 business days.
- tyywebb, on 01/01/2008, -4/+38Now I don't feel that bad that I'm RRoD'd.
- RedS0x, on 01/01/2008, -5/+38First line: "Ive been playing all week"
Last line: "... or, heaven forbid, go outside into the world" - xyqxyq, on 01/01/2008, -2/+35Compensation eh? Try buying an Xbox LIVE 1-month subscription and having your 360 RROD the same night.
- Klisk, on 01/01/2008, -2/+31I have a life. I'm watching New Years fireworks in WoW right now.
- RTFishUL, on 01/01/2008, -6/+33"how is Microsoft going to keep me as a customer?"
Don't kid yourself, a one week shutdown isn't anything severe enough to get you to stop using the service. Microsoft might not be too motivated to fix the issue because there aren't exactly any other products out there for your xbox like xbox live. Xbox live is the sole product, you won't stop using it because of one week of downtime and it's not realistic to expect people to go "oh man, xbox live has been down for a bit... well might as well buy a ps3". - Wolfbeta, on 01/01/2008, -0/+27If this happened during any of the other 51 weeks this past year then it would not have been an issue. However, this 52nd week should have been the best time to enjoy some Live. People are off work, off school, off whatever it is they`re generally obliged to do throughout the year. All they want to do is enjoy some of the Live experience.
Even worse is the multitude of people that just received the X360 for Christmas, think of how bad an impression this is on them. They haven`t even been able to make accounts. At least those of use with accounts got to get a bit of action here and there. - inactive, on 01/01/2008, -2/+28Well aren't you lucky. :-P
- Asylumius, on 01/01/2008, -2/+28"how is Microsoft going to keep me as a customer?" -- Face it, Microsoft is going to keep you as a customer, even if they don't give you anything as reimbursement, because you like X-Box Live and there is no alternative to it if you want to keep playing certain games or using certain features.
Hopefully they acknowledge it, fix it, and just maybe refund people for any actual downtime (if it's audited somewhere). If not, too bad. This isn't one of those times where you can call up the cable company and threaten to switch to satellite, and I just don't buy many people are going to abandon their live accounts over a couple days of sporadic, less-than-widespread poor service.
Now go get drunk. - higgs, on 01/01/2008, -2/+27Dug for being genuine and friendly. Dig needs more people like you to make up for the ***** like me.
- Canadarm, on 01/01/2008, -18/+43Blah blah blah, monopoly; blah blah blah, Apple!
- bashar129, on 01/01/2008, -1/+25Too bad it's their parents paying for the service.
- PaulGriffin, on 01/01/2008, -1/+23Answers to your questions.
1. Whenever they get it fixed.
2. Halo 3/Call of Duty 4 Online Multiplayer - edicius, on 01/01/2008, -8/+30No you're not, you are on digg.
- saleem, on 01/01/2008, -7/+27please, argue more with your anecdotal evidence.
- bbear, on 01/01/2008, -1/+21They give you 1 month of Xbox live free when you return it for RROD repair.
- epyon180, on 01/01/2008, -5/+24I don't give a ***** that you don't mind not having xbox live during Christmas break but I was really looking forward to playing some live with my friends. I have zero free time nowadays so I am really pissed, the fact that I have had my xbox break down twice on me this year doesn't help either. I love how xbox fanboys are defending Microsoft in this clear act of incompetence.
- Klisk, on 01/01/2008, -0/+19Microsoft ALWAYS sends you one free month after you have your Xbox repaired under warranty. I know. I've gotten 3 free months. (And 3 repairs. Sigh.)
- inactive, on 01/01/2008, -4/+22U SPELT IT WRONG IT HAS 2 G'S LOL TARD GTFO!!!!!
- staticneuron, on 01/01/2008, -1/+17Actually it does. While I couldn't get into halo 3, RB6 or gears on live I was able to get into COD4, UT3 and warhawk on the PSN. I understand your passion for the 360 but trying to be snarky while one is working well and the other one isn't just comes off as childish and pathetic.
- barakatx2, on 01/01/2008, -2/+18I agree, there's no way this guy would cancel his Live because of this. What's the point of having the xbox if you don't have online play?
- PanicAK, on 01/01/2008, -3/+19I'm not gonna look into it, but I bet somewhere in the XBL TOS, it says something about accepting down time, and stfu.
But yeah it does suck, been dying to play CoD4 the last few days. - Shamonue, on 01/01/2008, -2/+18Lucky me, my 360 died a week ago so I didn't know Xbox LIVE has been down. :-)
This will be my 2nd one I've sent in for repairs. - Twisty, on 01/01/2008, -0/+16Did you even read the comment?
- EvilAnimator, on 01/01/2008, -51/+66What else do you expect from Microsoft? I like my 360 but that company is *****.
- khellendros1984, on 01/01/2008, -5/+20You, sir, are *exactly* the kind of customer Microsoft wants more of! A complete tool!
- thecosmicpope, on 01/01/2008, -5/+20You don't get it. People only hate Microsoft when it is fashionable to hate Microsoft. Microsoft are a big bad money making corporation. Except for the Xbox 360, that's cool. You are only allowed to support free stuff, like Linux. And Apple. They don't give away free stuff, but they are cool, so it's ok to like Apple.
See? Easy! - Xvash2, on 01/01/2008, -8/+22Wait, so you want a free MONTH of gaming for missing one WEEK?
- Ouze, on 01/01/2008, -0/+14I didn't realize I needed those qualifications to complain that the service I pay for is largely offline. As an end user, I don't give a ***** about their problems, I only want it to work. And if you think about it, so do you: if your cable does out, do you call your ISP and get told, well, if you'd ever run an ISP, you'd ever understand? Or would you want a credit?
- inactive, on 01/01/2008, -1/+15So how's New Year's going for you?
- aresef, on 01/01/2008, -7/+21Come on now. This is the first time in five freaking years something like this has happened, and it's not like e and the crew in Redmond have been lax in addressing the problem. The XOC team has been working on the issue to the best of their ability, Major Nelson has been telling us. Though I'm certainly annoyed by the downtime, the service got pretty throttled, probably more than they could have predicted. Now, things seem to be getting back on track, but I think MS will likely pony up some kind of compensation for Gold users affected. Like an extra week credited to our accounts.
- HappyScrappy, on 01/01/2008, -3/+17When his site isn't down you can see that.
But they're still misleading. They said Live was up when you couldn't log in, log out, recover accounts, send or receive messages, see if your friends or play many games, nor could you download anything. That's down, but MS was calling it up. - aweraw, on 01/01/2008, -5/+19When WOW servers experience serious unplanned downtime, you usually get compensation for that time. If the xbox live user agreement does in fact have terms stating you will not be compensated for extended downtime, well, IMO that sux ass. People have a right to bitch if they pay for a service they are not allowed to use.
Stop being such a xbot - xyqxyq, on 01/01/2008, -0/+14Really? Sweet. Thanks for the info.
- theaceoffire, on 01/01/2008, -4/+18I am completely satisfied with free. I will pay for that forever.
