- DraconWolf, on 11/10/2007, -6/+34The fact this is only $30 more than the Wii just shows how much Nintendo is making off the Wii. They could easily stand to lower the price but why should they when they're still selling out of them? The fact remains though that the 360 is far superior technologically and is only $30. Is Microsoft still making money on this Arcade console? It would be interesting to see.
**EDIT** This is NOT a fanboy comment, just an observation. I'm in NO WAY saying the 360 is superior to the Wii in any other way than technological power. - CandidateZero, on 10/25/2007, -4/+31I wish MS would stop with these SKUs that lack an HDD.
I'd like to see 360 games that require a hard drive in the future, but the more of these there are the less likely that becomes. - billygreen23, on 11/10/2007, -3/+25Big FYI for those looking to purchase: the 360 Arcade has no backward compatibility support. http://www.xbox.com/en-US/hardware/compare101.htm
- opnickc, on 10/24/2007, -0/+20Incorrect, better than core system.
Wireless controller, HDMI port (no cable), 5 arcade games, and 256MB memory card included. If you don't care about downloadable content, have an SDTV, and/or don't care about backward compatibility, this is actually a good deal. Had I not bought my system on 9/24, I'd probably be getting this. It's cheaper, upgradeable, and has everything you need to play Halo 3. - Jangles, on 10/24/2007, -0/+18The article is 1 1/2 paragraphs you lazy ass.
- Firehed, on 10/25/2007, -1/+16It stopped being a next-gen console almost eleven months ago - when all three of the "next-gen" consoles had been released making them decidedly "this-gen"
- Aleman360, on 10/24/2007, -10/+25A PS3 has no value to someone who wants to play 360 games.
- taintedzodiac, on 10/24/2007, -1/+15Yes, but you'd have problems saving any custom content without a hard drive's larger capacity.
- damndj, on 10/26/2007, -34/+48I'd get a much better deal spending a little over $100 more for the 40GB PS3 that'll be going on sale in a few weeks.
- jacksons98, on 10/24/2007, -6/+19Warhawk !
- rowlodge, on 10/25/2007, -1/+13yeah no hdd...
- DraconWolf, on 10/24/2007, -2/+12I totally agree but at least they're including SOME way to save games this time around...It was pretty crappy to have a "budget" system for $100 less that forced you to buy at minimum a $40-50 add on just to save your games.
- BattleScars, on 10/24/2007, -3/+12Thank you for that informative and heart-warming tale of utter insignificance.
- FriskDown, on 10/24/2007, -4/+13It's too short... rent it and save some cash.
- Grimdotdotdot, on 10/24/2007, -0/+8RTFA
- damndj, on 10/24/2007, -2/+10I hear ya.. but people still seem to believe that the PS3 has NO GAMES. It's just not true any more. Yes, it was a rough early half of the year, but things are getting brighter.
- felman87, on 10/25/2007, -7/+15I would buy it, but the fact that there's no HDD and a 20 gb costs near $100....I'd rather get the bundles the Japanese get.
- MWeather, on 10/25/2007, -4/+11Hard drives should be standard in all consoles. There is no excuse for leaving it out. Even the crappy last-gen Xbox had one. The 360 wouldn't have issues with multiple disks in sandbox games if the hard drive was standard.
- jacksons98, on 10/24/2007, -5/+12@Altoidsxscore
You'll probably get dugg down by X360 fans trying to hide the truth, but even Halo3 owners rate it pretty bad.
It only has a 7.6 user score on Metacritic. - tacroy, on 10/23/2007, -0/+7Yes, you can purchase and "install" a Hard Drive. The hard drive just snaps in, very easy. One thing to keep in mind though is that the hard drive (its proprietary) is like 90 bucks, keep that in mind when you are deciding which to get.
- TypeEE, on 11/10/2007, -0/+7I would definitely not buy a wii when my son wants something else.
Buy him a 360 and get a HD when you really need it. - Firehed, on 10/24/2007, -0/+6Well come down here and spend $270CDN with the exchange rate. Our economy could use the boost.
- Hetman, on 11/10/2007, -1/+7I would buy it for him. It is better than getting him a wii if he does not want a wii. The wii is a good system though. But it is not for everyone.
- taintedzodiac, on 10/24/2007, -0/+6With all the multimedia features and custom content featured in Halo 3, it's a damn good question. You fail, sir.
- taintedzodiac, on 11/10/2007, -0/+6If you want all the features, you buy the Pro or Elite versions. Being able to buy your 8 year old an Xbox 360 to play on his 27" SDTV is a good thing.
This product is not marketed for you, just like the PS3 does not have a SKU that is marketed at that segment. - TypeEE, on 10/23/2007, -0/+6I want to know as well, so it makes me a retard as well?
- KingGoonie, on 10/24/2007, -5/+11damndj... it still holds weight in that the majority of people still believe it. Those games you mentioned? My opinion no they don't warrant a purchase, especially since some like Heavenly Sword turned out to be good... but not the second coming they were supposed to be.
- KMartSheriff, on 10/24/2007, -3/+8Sounds like a smart kid to me.
- briman, on 10/24/2007, -3/+8Does the Xbox 360 only have backwards compatibility if you add a hard drive?
- WhereAmI, on 10/25/2007, -4/+9Its not Sony's fault EA is *****.
- AARGH2K, on 10/24/2007, -3/+8Only MG fans will have any reaction to MG. It's a love or leave it game.
- taintedzodiac, on 11/10/2007, -1/+6I think that some people are missing the point on this SKU.
It's targeted at those consumers who need a machine that is cheaper than the full-featured models. They can hook it up to their older SDTV set and let their younger children go wild. If they need more later, they can buy a HDD.
Is it the proper configuration for such an item? Maybe, maybe not. It's a good start, though. - Grimdotdotdot, on 11/10/2007, -2/+7You think you've got it bad - it's the equivalent of nearly $400 in the UK (£200).
- Sethbacca, on 10/25/2007, -1/+6The Wii doesn't have a hard drive, just 512mb of flash memory, which can be matched by a 40-50$ x360 memory card. I have both systems, don't get me wrong. I'm just pointing out that all 3 consoles do not have standard hard drives. The 512mb in the Wii is barely adequate as storage once you start downloading a bunch of vc games. I think the 256mb included with the Arcade is a hell of a step up from the prior CORE gaming experience of zilch. The only system with HD standard this gen is the PS3.
- fudsak, on 11/10/2007, -0/+5I wish they'd pony up and at least put a couple gigs of flash memory in there and knock the price up a little more. A 360 without storage is pretty useless.
- Grimdotdotdot, on 10/23/2007, -4/+9It's getting brighter, but it's still fairly dim right now. The system has been out for a year, and you listed five good games up there.
Five. - Buckiller, on 10/24/2007, -0/+5In response to the reliability, i think like a month ago all the new consoles started coming with the new heatsink.
So start running. - KingGoonie, on 10/23/2007, -1/+6Yea but... Halo isn't worth 350... And even if you think it is.. what then? Your going to have to get a HDD eventually I assume, and if you fully wanna experience Halo 3 based on what someone said above you would need an HDD for the space for the custom maps or whatever he said.
- mercano, on 10/25/2007, -1/+6The 360 uses DVDs for games, just like the Wii. While you can buy a HD-DVD drive for the 360, its just for movies. Being an accessory, I wouldn't expect any games to come out for it. See SegaCD, 32x, the SNES's SuperScope, and to many other things to mention. If you requires a game that requires X, then you are immediately limiting your market to people who have X, unless your game is so good people will go out and buy an X just to play your game.
- Hetman, on 11/10/2007, -0/+5I imagine your son does not have a HD T.V. If he does not have one the hard drive is basically all you need. If I was strapped for cash I would defiantly purchase this 360 instead of buying him a wii. Basically your only alternative at that price point.
- taintedzodiac, on 10/24/2007, -0/+4I find myself having to delete things all the time, and all I use it for is demos and game saves. With about 2-3 demos released weekly (not to mention XBLA games) and each demo ringing in at 400-1500 MB, it adds up fast.
- JPPiper, on 10/24/2007, -0/+4NO We do not have a HD TV and he says he wants the XBOX over the Wii
- KingGoonie, on 10/23/2007, -1/+5I do care about downloadable content, but do have an SDTV and don't plan on upgrading that for a few years since I have no problem with it. Backwards compatibility? Not a huge issue I guess but since I never owned an XBOX and my brother and nephew do... you know what that might come into play as well becaue I can borrow there older games.
So damn, yea not going to get this, because I used virtual console to download games so if thats what you mean by downloadable content... and with 360 theres games as well as maps and levels and all that too... if you mean this version can't do that, then thats huge... I wish the premium would lower its price another 50, right now don't think its worth it. - BabyWookie, on 10/24/2007, -4/+8The PS3 is not a better value if you into gaming at all.
- munkyxtc, on 10/24/2007, -0/+4If your son is looking for the 360 then don't settle for the wii (I have one and love it, but they are completely different systems and the games are WAY different) and you are cash strapped or don't feel like spending $350 for the premium this is the way to go; however, I personally recommend having a hard drive because it does add alot of options such as backwards compatibility, and also gives you the chance to download videos, demos not to mention getting onto Xbox Live, which I think are major selling points of the system. You could also get this system now for $279 and then look for a hard drive on Ebay. They can usually be had for around $35+shipping which is better than the $99 retail and you'll still come out ahead. The only think you lose in comparison then would be the HDMI connection offered by the new Premium but if you don't have an HDTV then its no loss at all.
- JDoggqx, on 10/23/2007, -1/+5I agree that multiple SKUs can be confusing to customers. I mean you need a Venn Diagram to figure out how the PS3 is broken down by SKU: http://digg.com/playstation_3/Venn_Diagram_Compari ...
But as for DVD, HDD, wireless, etc. all I have to say is, "Times change." - inactive, on 10/23/2007, -1/+5$280USD in the US, $299CAD in Canada (as per Future Shop's website).
Not 1:1 (or, rather, 1:1.03), but at least we're getting somewhere here with Canadian pricing. -
