- inactive, on 03/23/2008, -16/+68yet again screwed by microsoft
- zombie1991, on 03/23/2008, -2/+31Happened to me for a while. I'd just turn it off then back on. It'd work again...happen again...I'd repeat the process. For some magical reason it's been fine for a while now. Make sure it stays cool. I have mine on a window sill with nothing around it. Make sure it gets "dusted" regularly as well. Get some canned air and blow it. Getting blown always helps keep things happy.
- logicalnoise, on 03/23/2008, -1/+22this is inconsistent with my experience. My 360 RROD'd in december sent it in, came back 3 weeks later and RROD'd again after 3 days. MS requested I send my power brick along with the console. Got my same console in only 1.5 weeks with a newer model power brick(smaller, lighter and no snap in connector). no troubles since. All of it free and my console was a launch unit.
SO eitehr they changed policies or you need to speak to another rep or supervisor. - inactive, on 03/23/2008, -4/+23You shouldn't even have to do all of that
- flamingmb, on 03/23/2008, -1/+17please go back to youtube.
- tacoxl, on 03/23/2008, -0/+12Anyone read some of the comments?
"I posted it on digg hoping some kind of dumb revolution would happen and microsoft would maybe extend the warranty..." - purelithium, on 03/23/2008, -1/+12How is this inaccurate? he called microsoft and they told him he only had a 3 month warranty on it.
- AlxRymnd914, on 03/23/2008, -6/+17Google says otherwise http://www.google.com/search?q=power+brick+red+lig ...
- Cronus6, on 03/23/2008, -0/+11Good try, that was "almost" English.
- TheTaoOfBill, on 03/23/2008, -1/+12Not in google terms. Which is why I said google is a horrible way to measure this sort of thing. It makes about as much sense as using google trends to determine the presidential nominees.
It counts all the duplicate stories and stories that have nothing to do with xbox 360s.
Also if we did measure by google, 10% of the reports of the RoD means a 3.3% failure rate which is pretty usual for most electronics. - AlxRymnd914, on 03/23/2008, -1/+11um... never lied...i called microsoft and they said the 360 has a one year warranty. Also, the problem here is that the power brick has only a 3 month warranty.
- AlxRymnd914, on 03/23/2008, -1/+10http://i32.tinypic.com/2mfc13d.jpg :/
- JigoroKano, on 03/23/2008, -0/+8WTF does a power brick need to be dusted for? Does it have a fan in it? A power brick should be nothing more than a wave rectifier and a voltage transformer... nothing that needs to be dusted ever.
It's probably getting too hot and causing the diodes in the rectifier to leak current or something. - Chompy, on 03/23/2008, -1/+91. Purchase new 360.
2. Return new 360 with broken power brick.
3. Retailer RMAs 360, Microsoft now gets to eat the cost of shipping plus replacing the brick.
4. Justice is served. - WhereAmI, on 03/23/2008, -3/+11And the ones that are (Mass Effect, Bioshock) are also available on PC.
- Ajajadude, on 03/23/2008, -1/+8Yeah, but I shouldn't have to treat my power supply as if it were a member of the royal family.
- WhereAmI, on 03/23/2008, -3/+10You only send in the Xbox, nothing else.
- volacide, on 03/23/2008, -2/+8Always someone to blow things out of proportion. Besides, I made 400 dollars off selling it. I mean finances impact everyones life significantly. So in reality, it was a fairly large decision.
- alukima, on 03/23/2008, -0/+6My replaced wireless adapter went out after a few weeks, since it still looked brand new I went to walmart, bought a new one, and then returned my non-working one. I realize this is dishonest but I hate walmart and didnt want to deal with Microsoft again.
- fkr3, on 03/23/2008, -1/+7My ***** needs frequent blowing to keep the err.. dust off.
- rowlodge, on 03/23/2008, -5/+11yeah surprised me the whole thing wasnt warranteed, mine 3 red lighted me about two weeks ago. there repairing it now, just thinking of selling it before anything else happens.
- drjekelmrhyde, on 03/23/2008, -2/+8sorry not that one
http://www.amazon.com/Brick-Power-Supply-Adapter-M ... - theaceoffire, on 03/23/2008, -5/+11It probably let him worry less. I was scared to play mine...
- thecheatah, on 03/23/2008, -1/+7thats insane "find a friend with a RRoD"
- fkr3, on 03/23/2008, -1/+6***** breaks. It's annoying when it happens but really, a power supply? Wait till you need a new gearbox in your car or a new roof on your house.
- AlxRymnd914, on 03/23/2008, -0/+5well its not anywhere on digg now...idk wtf happened. Hope your happy....the problem is that microsoft makes you pay $80 to replace your PSU and they probably send you a refurbished one back.
- inactive, on 03/23/2008, -3/+8Well that and the power brick has a one year warranty, so the OP is either an idiot or a liar.
- Dash-2, on 03/23/2008, -2/+7Yes, you bought HARDWARE from a SOFTWARE company.
That's your problem. - thedogfatherx, on 03/23/2008, -1/+6My xbox 360 just started not reading games at all. I had to send it in. It's going to be a 3 week ordeal to get my fixed xbox back. Bottem line is that this is one ***** product. It's JUNK. It's surprising people are foarking even more money to Microsoft. Even more puzzeling is that people seem to not really give a ***** that there xbox's are breaking down. Xbox 360's should have been RECALLED not a ***** warranty extension. XBOX 360 = Biggest piece of ***** product to come a long in a while.
- Ajajadude, on 03/23/2008, -0/+5Keywords: "for the xbox". Does that include accessories?
- TheTaoOfBill, on 03/23/2008, -18/+23Meh. This is the first I've heard of a power brick failing. I don't think this is a major issue
- Kidtuf, on 03/23/2008, -1/+5Buy an Xbox 360 from any old store, same type as your own, swap the bricks, and return the console. Worked like a charm.
- AlxRymnd914, on 03/23/2008, -3/+7Im bitching that i have to pay $80 for something that never should have happened. Yes. Your point?
- SickMonkey, on 03/23/2008, -1/+5MS intentionally re-engineers what should be otherwise plug-and-play pc compatible peripherals for their XBox and charges way too much for them.
Btw, I just got my 360 back from RRoD repairs and got a brand new unit. The fan in the new unit is a monster and very noisy. Nice of them to replace it for free and extend the warranty though. I've had no problems with the power brick. - kent1146, on 03/23/2008, -0/+4The rights to download items are liked to your Xbox Live username + password... so you will get the ability to download them again once you get a replacement hard drive in your hands.
- Sornos, on 03/23/2008, -0/+4Replace power brick with power supply. Would you tell someone with a top-of-the-line PC that they shouldn't have to blow air into their power supply's fans?
- zomgflamer, on 03/23/2008, -7/+11xbox 360 cheap to buy but over time it costs more than ps3.
- inactive, on 03/23/2008, -0/+3If you read down a bit, he says that the Xbox and the powerbrick have been run on tiles. For some strange reason the picture was taken on carpet.
It is still a poorly designed product, his PS3 was running on the carpet (supposedly) with no problems. Heck, ALL of my consoles run on carpet with no problems—except my Xbox 360. - fkr3, on 03/23/2008, -3/+6Ask your mummy to sit with you while you play....
- AlxRymnd914, on 03/23/2008, -0/+3but thats understandable because you can scratch it and stuff. With this, there was no abuse by me and it is only a manufacturing defect.
- theaceoffire, on 03/23/2008, -7/+10Actually this is perfect: Find a friend with a RRoD and swap cords.
Gonna have to send it in anyway, right? - kinseyincanada, on 03/23/2008, -0/+3thats because the power brick is inside the PS3
- mrloco, on 03/23/2008, -0/+3NES cartridges, for example.
- cadmiumpaint, on 03/23/2008, -1/+4i really want to get a 360, but i'm not about to pay all that money for a system that is destined to break and cost me more money. My 1st gen ps2 has never had a problem....i expect that kinda quality.
- thedogfatherx, on 03/23/2008, -1/+4You SHOULD expect quality. Don't buy an xbox 360. Either buy a ps3 or wait until 2010 - 2011 when the new systems come out again.
- Azimuth1, on 03/23/2008, -2/+5If you put the power brick in the box with a note they might replace it. I stuck a post-it to mine saying that the USB flap on the front was broken, and it came back with a brand new faceplate.
- Syugo, on 03/23/2008, -0/+3Maybe he should try the towel trick on it. You never know... :P
- InstantRamen, on 03/23/2008, -7/+10I am not trying to sound like a fan boy here . but rrod is one of the main things that has kept me away from the xbox 360. great titles for the the 360 but ***** hardware build.
- inactive, on 03/23/2008, -0/+3Cause people care
