halfazedninja.blogspot.com — The Ending song to Portal, in it's entire and complete hilarity
- 2285 diggs
- digg it
- dasdef, on 11/14/2007, -4/+145haha YES. this song was looping in my head for about 1 hour after the second time i finished this game.
This game pwns. I cant wait to see where modders and map editors take this. Does anyone remember back in the quake 2 days, where they would create challenging maps just based on the momentum/ sidestrafe jumping? The level difficulties would get ridiculous. great fun.- seventoes, on 11/11/2007, -11/+10I so wanna listen to this, but I want to beat the game first :(
- GliTCH82, on 11/14/2007, -1/+36Then go beat it
- cyrix, on 11/14/2007, -5/+52That's what she said.
- ncairns, on 11/14/2007, -2/+23Flawless win.
- GawtMilk, on 10/28/2007, -0/+12It takes around an hour and a half to beat. I'm surprised how many of my friends gave up when they were going to get cake. The game has so much more to it than that...
I really hope this will be the kind of game that isn't expensive to keep playing. I hope they release "episodes" on a more frequent basis, and for something like $9.99 [or $0.00]. The gameplay is so dynamic...finishing Portal gave you the skills you need to have fun. Now they need to incorporate the plot with the plot of Half-Life 2. - dark_helmet, on 10/28/2007, -0/+8I hope you find a portal gun on the Borealis in episode 3. It would make sense, the ship is an aperture science ship.
- GawtMilk, on 10/14/2007, -0/+3If you look at the portal gun, it says...
APERTURE
||||||||||||||||||||04
Indicating it's the fourth portal gun ever made. Prototype weapons > regular weapons. I'd think it'd be cool if the prototype Portal gun that made the Borealis "disappear" would once again malfuction portal us to something like another Citadel, Xen or the Combine overworld. - Thorlord, on 10/15/2007, -0/+1i honestly think that if it malfunctions, you will warp through time, not like the last time in HL2 (where you warped and it was a week later), but actually BACK in time. back before Black Mesa, or even during black Mesa.
that would bring some interesting new gameplay, and might even lead up to a great HL3 where you figure out everything.
- GawtMilk, on 10/14/2007, -0/+3If you look at the portal gun, it says...
- cyrix, on 11/14/2007, -5/+52That's what she said.
- kidd3ckz, on 11/11/2007, -15/+3Man this is the second, useless, comment of yours. Hey I wanna see what moon cheese tastes like... I BETTER GOTO THE MOON, YO
- GliTCH82, on 11/14/2007, -1/+36Then go beat it
- centran, on 10/28/2007, -7/+23Don't worry... I don't think you can really spoil this game even if I told you the whole story. One or two parts might give you a "heads up" but this game is more about gameplay.
- therightclique, on 11/13/2007, -10/+25*****. this game has some pretty big story moments. maybe you missed them.
- Drakoola, on 10/28/2007, -0/+21Why are you digging therightclique down? The story took a pretty big twist 1/2 of the way through in case nobody noticed. I wasn't expecting the ending either.
- ArmandoM, on 11/23/2007, -0/+1I'm not, who said I was?
- ZippidyDoo, on 10/15/2007, -1/+7If you want a good game for strafe/trickjumps check out warsow. http://www.warsow.net Most of the maps are from defrag but still fun to play.
- Spuy767, on 10/21/2007, -15/+1Am I the only person who thinks that the 320k encoding was a bit much?
- championchap, on 10/15/2007, -0/+1I want FLAC.
- th3heretic, on 10/21/2007, -14/+1I guess i'm the only one who didn't find it that amusing.
- mooboy322, on 10/15/2007, -0/+4have a couple beers then listen to it again
- themastersb, on 10/26/2007, -0/+18I just finished the game earlier today. Throughout the whole game I kept saying to myself "I must get to the delicious cake!"
- dasdef, on 11/04/2007, -0/+27dont be fooled! the cake is a lie!!
- bonedead, on 10/15/2007, -0/+1Your mentioning of strafejumping reminded me of playing Quake 2 PaintBall, some of those maps were all about the jumpin for the win.
- tehloki, on 10/20/2007, -0/+0Here's the cake mix orb's ramblings assembled into a single file. There's a little remix at the end.

- Reponere, on 10/26/2007, -2/+11Was looking for this. Thanks!
- ElectricGrandpa, on 10/26/2007, -1/+2I'm don't have a huge amount of knowledge of the HL universe, but isn't it possible that the main character in Portal is Alyx's mother?

If you dont know english I bet the song seems really happy and upbeat- sockpuppets, on 11/11/2007, -2/+73I know English and it was still happy and upbeat.
- Nadinengland, on 11/14/2007, -14/+12If they don't know English they can't read what you just said... BADONG?

- TheDreadDiggerD, on 10/15/2007, -24/+1It's just like a song by The Cure. Or The Cult. Or any emo band these days.

- internetcoward, on 10/25/2007, -30/+2I had no problem finding it, i googled it and WHAM-O a torrent from a user portalguy. Awesome game, if you want your butt whooped in TF2 message me IStoleTheTV.
- sockpuppets, on 10/25/2007, -26/+7It was the best part of the game. Good thing it was short, too, because I was about to barf it was so disorienting.
- sockpuppets, on 10/15/2007, -0/+19That sounded like I said it sucked, on the contrary. Awesome game it just made me disoriented.
- ch4os1337, on 10/15/2007, -0/+8Have you tried the advanced levels? those will really ***** you up
- gamabunta, on 10/29/2007, -4/+96The game was better than expected. I think a majority of people purchaed Orange Box for TF2 and HL:E2. I wasn't expecting much out of Portal but ended up playing it straight through right away.
- Kratisto, on 10/31/2007, -0/+41I bought it almost exclusively for Portal. I knew episode 2 would be good, and that TF2 would be a fun multiplayer game, but my expectations for Portal were high. What an awesome concept; executed perfectly.
- toekneebullard, on 10/15/2007, -0/+3I was super psyched for Portal too, and it still blew me away.
- JustinPM, on 11/02/2007, -2/+1Dat game is deh bomb yo! I wuz going thru it like a ninja. A ninja with a portal gun. Holy crap, I think I just thought of an awesome mod.
- toekneebullard, on 10/15/2007, -0/+3I was super psyched for Portal too, and it still blew me away.
- antdude, on 10/26/2007, -0/+1Same here. I think the 2D version helped too because I didn't think I would like it. It's addicting!!
- cmanatlan, on 10/29/2007, -0/+0Yeah. I wasn't going to get Orange Box at first because I thought that it was just a tiny bit too expensive and that I wasn't going to end up liking portal, but after playing portal flash, I realized portal was the part I was most excited about.
- Kratisto, on 10/31/2007, -0/+41I bought it almost exclusively for Portal. I knew episode 2 would be good, and that TF2 would be a fun multiplayer game, but my expectations for Portal were high. What an awesome concept; executed perfectly.
- Mono1ith, on 11/13/2007, -1/+370Orange Box kicks ass . . . best $45 I ever spent.
- Aadain, on 10/15/2007, -0/+21I wish I could digg you twice!
- GliTCH82, on 11/12/2007, -10/+70Yeah, way better than BioShock, 3 games for the price of one ***** game and no stupid Sony SecuROM ***** to boot. We need more game companies like Valve!
- GawtMilk, on 11/02/2007, -1/+7SecuROM has been cracked about 12,469,182,125 times. If you're looking for freedom, Valve doesn't supply it. You still can only play games on one computer at a time.
All three are superb games. My favorite is The Orange Box, and yes, I do enjoy Valve's games the most, but you're just subscribing to mob mentality...have you even installed BioShock / World in Conflict? I have, and then I downloaded a No-CD crack which bypasses the SecuROM. For both games. No viruses or spyware.- KungFuJesus, on 10/26/2007, -0/+5You can play valve games on more than 1 computer at a time. At lan parties there'll usually be 3 people on my extra steam account so that we can all play CSS
- dark_helmet, on 10/15/2007, -0/+6You can only play ONLINE on one copy of the game at a time, playing single player is no problem at all. Even if it were to kick you off when someone else launches the game, just unplug your network cable :)
- GawtMilk, on 10/14/2007, -1/+2Well another issue I have with the Steam platform is if you want to play a single player mode without an internet connection, you cannot start in "Offline Mode", you've got to be signed in already.
- 80hd, on 10/14/2007, -0/+1But once your in offline mode, you dont need internet to do what you like
- GawtMilk, on 11/02/2007, -1/+7SecuROM has been cracked about 12,469,182,125 times. If you're looking for freedom, Valve doesn't supply it. You still can only play games on one computer at a time.
- dragonhell, on 11/04/2007, -1/+52I agree completely! However, I don't think I've been made this paranoid by a game in quite some time... damn Portal.
"Remember when the platform was sliding into the fire pit and I said 'Goodbye' and you were like 'NOWAY', and then I was all we pretended we were going to murder you, that was great." - the cake is scary.
Oh! And that game has the best way to learn the conservation of momentum *ever*: "Speedy thing goes in, speedy thing comes out." - All for $45. :P- Evi1d33d, on 10/19/2007, -0/+12I love how it said 'no way'.
- Protoss, on 10/18/2007, -0/+8Haha I loved the computer, added such an amazing feel to the game.
- GawtMilk, on 10/18/2007, -0/+12"Do you want to marry it WELL I WON'T LET YOU!"
- Cl1mh4224rd, on 10/22/2007, -0/+16"Don't believe me? Here, I'll put you on. 'Hellooo!' That's you! That's how dumb you sound!"
That game has some great lines. - mtrip, on 10/17/2007, -0/+1You were adopted.
- Cl1mh4224rd, on 10/22/2007, -0/+16"Don't believe me? Here, I'll put you on. 'Hellooo!' That's you! That's how dumb you sound!"
- antdude, on 10/26/2007, -0/+1$40 for me with sales and pricematching. :D
- MrBlanks, on 11/11/2007, -2/+191The cake is not a lie! It was delicious and moist!
- airwalkery2k, on 11/14/2007, -0/+99Yes. I only wish my weighted companion cube were still here to enjoy it with me. He was so funny, and had quite a few good ideas for capital ventures. He probably liked cake too.
- Sedako, on 11/04/2007, -12/+2He was there to enjoy it with you. In the end where you are standing in front of the cake, the companion cube is on the other side of it.
- airwalkery2k, on 10/28/2007, -0/+30That's an impostor, of course. My cube is so much cuter and smarter and more talkative.
- spudnic, on 10/20/2007, -0/+4You don't stand in front of the cake, you float up out of the building.
They just showed you the cake with a camera...- Sedako, on 10/14/2007, -1/+2I didn't mean Chell (the person you are playing as), I meant you as in the player.
- jdoggxperience, on 10/26/2007, -1/+30Well, you could friend him on facebook...
http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=595707388- saifatlast, on 10/14/2007, -0/+3Awesome, done.
- Drakoola, on 10/14/2007, -0/+1wow I wish I could digg you three times.
- CyberSkull, on 10/17/2007, -0/+2I have no idea why they told us to ignore the companion cube's suggestions. They were quite good.
- Sedako, on 11/04/2007, -12/+2He was there to enjoy it with you. In the end where you are standing in front of the cake, the companion cube is on the other side of it.

- Zawamura, on 10/23/2007, -4/+52This is ***** epic !
- Racerx52, on 10/25/2007, -0/+15It's the happiest thing.
- mileswj, on 11/11/2007, -4/+76Portal was awesome but way to short, I beat it in like 1-2 hours.
- IntruderII, on 10/17/2007, -0/+10It felt about the right length to me. 1-2 hours is pretty quick though, it took me about 3.
Also, do the advanced maps and challenges. It takes a long time to complete every aspect of portal. - Drakoola, on 10/19/2007, -0/+5It was short, but I think it was the right size for the story, like a short film. I expect there to be many modded maps, and the advanced maps should add around 2 hours.
- IntruderII, on 10/17/2007, -0/+10It felt about the right length to me. 1-2 hours is pretty quick though, it took me about 3.
- rnawky, on 11/11/2007, -1/+132And we're out of beta.
We're releasing on time.
Ahahahah. Good joke, when was the last time Valve released something on time?- goblindegook, on 10/23/2007, -1/+59October 10?
- GhostCow, on 10/16/2007, -0/+20TF2 was very, very late.
- goblindegook, on 10/15/2007, -1/+1True, but they did deliver a great game, so I don't mind having waited.
- GhostCow, on 10/16/2007, -0/+20TF2 was very, very late.
- Pake, on 10/17/2007, -27/+2VALVe? Never. But thankfully this wasn't made by VALVe, rather it was made by people who were later bought by VALVe. Hence why it is a quality game also and not crappy.
- goblindegook, on 10/17/2007, -2/+32Yes, because we all know how much Half Life, Half Life 2 and Team Fortress 2 suck. They're barely playable at all. How these incompetent jerks remain in business is a mystery to me.
- Pake, on 11/04/2007, -17/+2HL sucks, HL2 sucks, and the original Team Fortress game design wasn't even developed by VALVe.
- GawtMilk, on 10/17/2007, -2/+3HL2 suck? Go play Halo. You're a wolf in sheep's clothing.
- Pake, on 11/04/2007, -7/+2Actually, I'd rather go play Hellgate: London and if we're talking about the games in the year that HL2 was released, I'd rather play Doom 3.
- dark_helmet, on 10/15/2007, -0/+5I got bored well before the end of doom 3, it was very repetitive. HL didn't suck when it was made, but now its very dated.. I'd love HL re-made with characters more like the ones in HL2
- bagboyrebel, on 10/14/2007, -0/+3Were you dropped on your head as a child?
- LembasBread, on 10/14/2007, -0/+2Slay the troll.
- Pake, on 11/04/2007, -17/+2HL sucks, HL2 sucks, and the original Team Fortress game design wasn't even developed by VALVe.
- spudnic, on 10/15/2007, -0/+12They made Narbacular Drop (or however the ***** it's spelled) then were bought by Valve, then made this.
Just like the TF guys, and the CS guys...
Valve have an awesome eye for talent- Pake, on 11/04/2007, -4/+1Yeah, otherwise they wouldn't be in business today since over half of HL1 was sold after CS was created and was bought solely for CS.
- GawtMilk, on 10/14/2007, -0/+1VALVe's Half-Life and Half-Life 2 are amazing games. I think Half-Life has the biggest canonical FPS storyline.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Half-Life_%28series%2 ... - Pake, on 11/04/2007, -4/+1Bigger doesn't always mean better. If you were to take the entire Half-Life 1 concept, it's nothing but a remake of the original Doom game where a "science project" goes wrong, opens a portal, and monsters appear.
- DarkExodus, on 10/14/2007, -0/+1"Remake"? Somehow I doubt you where there, HL was completely revolutionary. Forget about plot and look at the technology and storytelling techniques.
HL2 was also incredible, probably the best FPS in the last 10 years. - bagboyrebel, on 10/14/2007, -0/+1@ Pake
could you please explain how half-life is anything like doom. The only things that are the same are the fact that both are FPS's and both have non-human enemies.
- GawtMilk, on 10/14/2007, -0/+1VALVe's Half-Life and Half-Life 2 are amazing games. I think Half-Life has the biggest canonical FPS storyline.
- Kratisto, on 10/14/2007, -0/+5That makes VALVe the Anti-EA doesn't it? They see something cool, then buy them and make it happen, rather than seeing something cool, and buying it to destroy it.
- Pake, on 11/04/2007, -4/+1Yeah, otherwise they wouldn't be in business today since over half of HL1 was sold after CS was created and was bought solely for CS.
- goblindegook, on 10/17/2007, -2/+32Yes, because we all know how much Half Life, Half Life 2 and Team Fortress 2 suck. They're barely playable at all. How these incompetent jerks remain in business is a mystery to me.
- Protoss, on 10/18/2007, -0/+11Sure they never release on time, but they always are out of beta right? They don't rush their products, unlike EA.
- sodoh, on 10/14/2007, -1/+2Actually the song doesn't refer to Valve at all. GladOs is referring to the player in the game. The game is a test, even your supposed escape is rigged by the computer.
- TVarmy, on 10/14/2007, -0/+2No, I think GLaDOS is just crazy and loves data. The destruction of most of her self and the escape of the test subject is just more data. She's happy over all the things she learned. The ending seems to confirm that GLaDOS is mostly software as there's a warehouse of her modules, so that's why she is "still alive." I think this means Gordan Freeman might meet a GLaDOS on Borealis! Just imagine how GLaDOS will be after years of isolation and headcrab invasions/etc.
- goblindegook, on 10/23/2007, -1/+59October 10?
- munen123, on 11/04/2007, -45/+2Portal was lots of fun! thou i really like benson getting his brains sucked out at the end of ep2....
- Sedako, on 10/14/2007, -3/+5...Benson? Surely you mean Eli, or have you paid 0 attention to the story? :/
- smookyfufu, on 10/14/2007, -4/+3He's actually showing his age and being very clever. I dugg him up even though its a spoiler.
- Bahimiron, on 10/15/2007, -1/+21Hey, thanks for the spoiler there, douchebag.

- TrevorBradley, on 10/19/2007, -0/+19Portal was excellent, and I loved the credits. I went back to play with the developer commentary and got about 80% of the way through when I realized that there was no way to view the credits from the menu, and I never saved!
I ended up having to play the game all the way through again and save so I could see the end credits when I wanted to. The Youtube links are awesome, but you can't read the text of the lyrics then... - HunterTV, on 11/04/2007, -0/+70"I'm doing science and I'm still alive."

Given what "she" says about her being "the only thing standing between us and them", and that Kleiner says what's on the ship would be a huge help in fighting the combine, I'm inclined to agree with this...

- TVarmy, on 10/14/2007, -0/+1After all the fanboys impassioned pleas for this, it is valve's civic duty to do this now.
- k4rb0n8, on 10/14/2007, -0/+2quality joke right there! or maybe im just too into the whole half life series...
- swanny89, on 10/15/2007, -0/+2No, Aperture was a direct competitor to black mesa. There's a room in the second half of portal with a projector slide show called "Dollar$ and Sense: Competing With Black Mesa".
- CyberSkull, on 10/16/2007, -0/+1Damn! I just heard that line when I got to your comment!
- skidme, on 11/06/2007, -1/+115We at Aperture disapprove of this statement. The cake is not a lie. Had the participant lay down with his hands at his sides, he would have been escorted to the party just like we promised.

- Perk, on 10/18/2007, -0/+57Yeah, I pulled that out of the .gcf about 2 minutes after I finished Portal. Amazing game; insanely catchy song.
It was written by Jonathon Coulton who's done a lot of other geek rock goodness... check out Code Monkeys in particular:
http://www.jonathancoulton.com/- Harbinger67, on 10/14/2007, -0/+3Finally, someone who had a hint of creativity and cracked open the .gcf.
I pulled some textures out of the gcf files and made a "The Cake is a Lie" wallpaper. It's white on black, the cake icon from the level beginning signs blown up and the "the cake is a lie, the cake is a lie, the cake is a lie" scrawling below the icon. I'd post it but it's too rough to be called finished. - toekneebullard, on 10/14/2007, -0/+1That's awesome! I was thinking it sounded like hsi style (and I've only heard a few of his songs)
Talk about a sonic signature. - MrManiac, on 10/28/2007, -0/+1Too bad the show Code Monkeys sucks nuts.

- 1310nm, on 10/25/2007, -9/+8I was tired of single-player FPS games after beating Wolfenstein 3D. This is the first single-player "FPS" game that has held my attention to the end in a very long time. Whoever at Valve had the idea for this and saw it to completion should get a huge cake.
- dn11, on 10/25/2007, -0/+20It was originally a student project from some guys at Digipen. They showed their stuff to Valve and got hired to develop Portal... so like a lot of Valve products (CS, TFC)- it started as a 3rd party mod - but at least Valve as the ability to recognize greatness and snatch it up when they have the chance.

- GawtMilk, on 10/14/2007, -0/+2CS : Source is for the generation of gamers who like flashy graphics rather than consistent gameplay. It's not a bad game...in many ways it's easier than CS, in many ways it's harder.

- BugMeNot2, on 10/14/2007, -0/+3Actually, the Narbacular Drop team wrote their game mostly from scratch. But, yeah, Valve are great at finding amazing talent.
- lacronicus, on 10/14/2007, -0/+1it was entirely from scratch. The project was to make a complete game start to finish as their year exam.

- rwallen, on 11/14/2007, -3/+43Spoiler>>
Throughout the game the computer voice guiding you through everything promises you cake when you complete all the challenges, when in fact, it really means to kill you and not give you any cake.
This of course leads you into an interesting pursuit of said cake, because chocolate is delicious and filling. By cake I mean an exit to the facility you are trapped in. - mrjit, on 10/15/2007, -1/+5Ah, danke.
- NSMike, on 10/29/2007, -1/+15Just wait. Shame on you for spoiling it for yourself.
- FyberOptic, on 11/06/2007, -0/+15The phrase "the cake is a lie" is actually written on the walls in some back areas of certain levels, written over and over apparently by someone previously trapped there and gone a bit nutty.
- kaythecraven, on 03/01/2008, -0/+1Yeah, I had to tone down the graphics so much that I couldn't read any of those words. At least I got to play it, right?
- kaythecraven, on 03/01/2008, -0/+1Yeah, I had to tone down the graphics so much that I couldn't read any of those words. At least I got to play it, right?
- melthornal, on 11/13/2007, -0/+7Cake is a euphemism for a horribly painful death. The robot in the game uses this euphemism several times saying if you fall off such and such you will be caked (ie fall into acidic liquid and melt to death), et cetera. Then, when the robot tries to kill you, it promises you cake in return for compliance when you escape. At the end you find out that the robot has turned the euphemism to have a literal meaning, so you destroy its 'make cake instinct,' as opposed to its 'murder instinct' which is held separately (and has to be thrown into the incinerator just after the cake instinct).
- rwallen, on 11/14/2007, -3/+43Spoiler>>
- NeoCortex, on 10/29/2007, -2/+39But there really was cake! And right next to it, on the floor, was my weighted companion cube. I wonder if I died in the blast and that last room was simply heaven.
- TVarmy, on 10/15/2007, -0/+4You're still alive. You got out in the end. GLaDOS mentions that someone might help you outside. One of the GLaDOS backups in storage just wanted to sing about how happy she was. And I have a feeling Aperture can make hundreds of identical weighted companion cubes. - dschep, on 11/14/2007, -1/+2If you say so. but.. the orange box is 50 (60 I guess if you want it on the 360... but why??) bucks and includes hl2, hl2:ep1, hl2:ep2, portal, and tf2.. where as halo3 is 60 dollars.. so yea.. though I may believe the orange box is better (mainly due to tf2 and portal), one would be crazy to claim halo3 was more worth the money.

- DiggCommando, on 10/15/2007, -0/+9Maybe Gordon finds the Portal gun on the Borealis...
- Yarnage, on 10/15/2007, -0/+13SPOILER
At the end of Episode 2, you are asked to go to the ship that has an Aperature crate on it and you're asked to destroy it because it's too dangerous to be used. I'm willing to bet Gordon gets to use the portal gun in Episode 3.- DiggCommando, on 11/14/2007, -0/+6Yeah that's what I was thinking but I did not want to post the full spoiler :-P
- junk, on 10/14/2007, -0/+1The other thing is that in HL2 they are setting you up to go to the arctic where the Aperture ship (and dry dock) are and during Portal there are a few references to "Ice Inhibitors" through the game. I thought it had something to do with the cake (icing) until I finished EP2. I think Portal took place in the arctic and the sunny scene at the end was due to the ice inhibitors.
- NikoKun, on 10/14/2007, -0/+3I got the hint from the Commentary mode, that this is just "the first portal game".
- phatfish, on 10/15/2007, -0/+1I think i will be a little while before we see the portal gun outside a puzzle game with bare square rooms for pure performance reasons. My PC runs HL2:EP2 better most of the time than it runs Portal. Portal is fine until you open up a portal, then the framerate drops as it renders a second copy of the room your in.
Try to get your PC rendering another copy of a HL2:EP2 environment and watch the framerate plummet. Maybe HL3 as someone said, but not EP3, at least not in an environment any different to the ones in Portal now.- Syphon8, on 12/04/2007, -0/+1Portal is like, super fast. :/
