- a1cd, on 11/22/2008, -0/+38I got my xbox back in less then a week when it RROD a few months ago.. If you do it online you dont even have to deal with customer support reps.
- nikpappagiorgio, on 11/21/2008, -0/+33Wow, I wouldn't have expected that at all.
- Mpwns, on 11/22/2008, -2/+32wait a wal-mart did something none of us can complain about....
- funnygreen, on 11/22/2008, -1/+29I got the red ring of death...in 2005!
BAM! - neo991lb, on 11/22/2008, -3/+28Notice this wasn't Best Buy.
- wakeborder, on 11/22/2008, -4/+29I work at Sams in the frozen food section
- twst1up, on 11/22/2008, -2/+27well, how bout next time you don't give me a bunch of ***** for asking for more free samples
- AgentMull, on 11/22/2008, -0/+20Do go on.
- Skitals, on 11/22/2008, -0/+191. This is not unexpected from Sam's Club. As long as you are a member in good standing, they have a 100% satisfaction guarantee. There is no time-limit.
2. Why would anyone expect "it would be months before he would get it back", if he had sent it in to Microsoft? The repairs have always been very fast. It has never taken longer then three weeks for me. 95% of that time is UPS being slow shipping the box/xbox back and forth. If you can't live without an Xbox for 3 weeks, well, buy your 360 at Sam's Club, I guess. - RC18, on 11/22/2008, -0/+18i dont know, but this may be the worst use of pedobear in the history of digg.
- inactive, on 11/22/2008, -3/+20It's cool that you don't feel you've been invonvenienced, but the fact that you've had to send yours back 3 times isn't really a glowing advertisement for the product.
- dreadful, on 11/22/2008, -0/+15They do run Sams Club a little different than Wal - Mart
- Anpheus, on 11/22/2008, -0/+13Everyone has Silver, you get a free month of Gold.
- WillSunrider, on 11/22/2008, -5/+17beats having to wait months for a good PS3 title.
- Xihix, on 11/22/2008, -1/+13Fascinating.
- 919kwjc, on 11/22/2008, -3/+15Hey - I thought Wal-Mart was the king of all that is evil in America! You mean I can't trust what DailyKos says? Fascinating.
- trogdor282, on 11/22/2008, -0/+11Wal-mart is a good place to shop, they just kill dead babies and orphans or whatever.
- HCviolence, on 11/22/2008, -0/+11Dugg for a retailer doing something right.
- afmmolina, on 11/22/2008, -0/+10Finally something the consumerist is not bitching about!
- rodted2, on 11/22/2008, -1/+10no, Sam's Club did it not Wal-Mart.
/sarcasm - Chompy, on 11/22/2008, -0/+9Sam's Club rocks. I bought a 40" Bravia from them about six months ago. Last week I walked in and noticed the price had (naturally) dropped, so on a whim I went over to the CS desk and asked if they'd match it. Their response:
"Got a receipt?"
In the end I didn't even need that because they were able to look up the purchase. If they have what you want, they are the only place to go for electronics. - kingatrock, on 11/22/2008, -2/+10years.
- nattybohman, on 11/22/2008, -0/+8Just last week my 360 red ringed.
I returned my launch day (11/22/2005) purchased Xbox 360 to costco without a receipt. They gave me the $504 dollars I paid for the bundle back then in cash.
I used to money to buy another 360 bundle from Costco.com which contained:
Xbox 360
60 gb hard drive (upgrade from the 20gb I originally had)
Extra wireless controller
Kung fu panda
Lego Indiana Jones
Gears of War 2
3 XBLA Arcade games
AND a 13 month Live Gold subscription
For $389 !!!
That's right. I had around $115 dollars left over to buy two more games!!
My story should be the headline since I made out much better than this guy. I'm always going to make big purchases at Costco from now on. - Setari, on 11/22/2008, -0/+7I dunno if I just got lucky, but when my 360 RRoD'd, it took exactly 6 days from the box request to receiving my fixed 360 (new one?) from UPS. I was shocked that Microsoft could do anything that quickly.
Edit: I live in TN, and the support place is in Texas, so I'm sure that had something to do with it. - Zidul, on 11/22/2008, -1/+8i'd be more awesome if it didn't break in the first place.
- mc142, on 11/22/2008, -0/+6"I work at Sams in the frozen food section" = Worst pick-up line ever.
- AaronD12, on 11/22/2008, -0/+6Three times? This is ACCEPTABLE?
C'mon people. If this was your regular computer and not a game machine, would you be so accepting? If it was your car and you without it for a month, would you say that's okay?
The XBox360 has better games, better video scaling for games, etc., but I bought a PS3 because I don't want to have to send it back to the manufacturer every few months to get repaired!
There is no reason why a closed-box system, like the XBox360, can't be as reliable as your refrigerator. Nintendo does it. Sony does it. Why not you, Microsoft? Or do you believe XBox360 customers are as accepting of your flaws as Windows users? - getoffmybridge, on 05/05/2009, -1/+7Oh do ya?
- Royish, on 11/22/2008, -4/+10Costco does this too. You can return most things to Costco whenever you want for a full refund. Wii, PS3, and360.
But Costco doesn't destroy the country like Sam's Club and Walmart.
Costco pays their employees decent wages, pensions, and covers 90% of all health care expenses. Walmart and Sam's Club pay their employees well under the poverty line and instructs their employees to get medicaid, food stamps and welfare.
Oh and Costco employees don't even have a Union but provides all of that to their employees because they believe it is the right way to conduct business. - Beowulf2112, on 11/22/2008, -1/+6Microsoft replaces your console hassle free as well... for free (they even give you the tape to seal the box)
- cthellis, on 11/22/2008, -0/+5Um... I'm pretty sure everyone has Silver all the time, if they want it. Considering it's free.
;-) - Cofaloaf, on 11/22/2008, -0/+5Killing dead babies is mean.
- bigteebo, on 11/22/2008, -0/+5I like your frozen french toast sticks for sale. Mmmm
- cthellis, on 11/22/2008, -4/+9You realize they share a good 90% of new releases, right?
- MrTankJump, on 11/22/2008, -2/+7Best Buy does it no hassle also, I've done it before.
- CraigB12, on 11/22/2008, -0/+5COULDN'T!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
You do realize that you're saying the exact opposite of what you really mean, don't you? - Mujokan, on 11/22/2008, -1/+6http://digg.com/users/jonathanzombie/history/comme ...
- dustbowl, on 11/22/2008, -0/+5This is one of the benefits of buying something from a 'big box' place like Sam's Club or Costco. I've heard the same story about customer satisfacation at Costco as well. You might even have to show them your receipt. Obviously you have to be a member.
I think thats what differentiates Sam's Club and Costco from a Best Buy or EB Games. Its the membership fee.
If I were to buy an iPod, GPS or Game Console at Best Buy or EB Games, I would have to purchase some sort of extended warranty package for each item. That could be $20 to $100+ dollars to your original cost.
With buying stuff at Costco or Sam's Club, everyone must pay a one time, yearly member ship fee of approximately $50.
Obviously you don't get the choice and selection sometimes at Costco or Sam's Club, but for generic hardware items or even watches, if your product isn't satisfactory, they will do something about it for you.
I'd agree with this article. Hats off to Costco and Sam's Club.
I think that if you didn't have such an experience there, where you did have troubles returning something, then it was something about your approach in returning the product. The problem was the delivery or reasoning of why you returned the product, and not in the policies of the actual store. - willwork4ammo, on 11/22/2008, -0/+5I think you're part of the reason they changed part of their policy.
Really, you have the conscience to take back a 9 year old computer!?!?! It's now 90 days for TVs, Computers, and Cameras. But they do give you a 2 year warranty at no cost. - CraigB12, on 11/22/2008, -0/+4Yeah, I returned a mattress I bought in 1988 that I originally paid $1000 dollars for, and got a brand new one for free. The trick is, go to Sam's Club and buy 1 of everything that you need in your home. Then, for the rest of your life, if something breaks or what have you, you just go back and they will return it for something new... no questions asked. My family has saved millions of dollars over the years. I just wish they sold cars.
- geoboy, on 11/22/2008, -1/+5Right. Sam's Club collects a lot of data about their members. They know everything you've bought for at least the last 5 years, and they know everything you return and how often you return things. In other words, they know how much you're costing the company. If you have one of their $100/year plus memberships, have been a long time member, and have returned few items, you're very likely to be able to return stuff out of warranty because they really do want to keep your business. However, if you have their basic $40/year membership, and you've only been a member for a year or so, they're not as inclined to favor a costly return.
But it really all depends on who's working behind the counter that day. - inactive, on 11/22/2008, -2/+6It takes less than two weeks and is free if it is less than 3 years old.
"He figured it would be months before he would get it back and expected to have to pay somewhere."
He is also totally ignorant to the situation. - CraigB12, on 11/22/2008, -1/+5Amen brother
- Leehro, on 11/22/2008, -1/+5The xbox extends your year by a week?
- plainOldFool, on 11/22/2008, -0/+4Is that Pedobear or Master Splinter?
- Synchro, on 11/22/2008, -0/+4What fantasyland do you live in where nothing breaks down. Yes, the XBOX360 has had a much higher than normal RROD problems. I myself have gotten it twice and had to send it in. I was shocked both times that MS handled it very well, fast and with few hassles. For hardware crapping out, it is difficult to want the process to go smoother than it did. Yes I would prefer 100% reliability, but in this age with hardware/TV/electronics makers marketing throwaway gear, it is what it is, unfortunately.
- getoffmybridge, on 05/05/2009, -0/+4lol
- bitterbug, on 11/22/2008, -0/+3What retailer?
For warranty purposes the receipts at most of the big retailers has the serial number on it, and they check. - douce2, on 11/22/2008, -0/+3The fatties would jump at that line
- Chrysalii, on 11/22/2008, -0/+3Fanboy wars have gone onb long before you graced us with your all-mighty presence, and they'll go on long after.
