Rock Band Songs
mannpill.com — Everyones playing it, and if you aren't. I don't know what to say. Easily the greatest party game on the market right now, Rock Band is a must have. With weekly new song releases, it's time to sound off on the songs that you think should be in the game. But don't think you get off that easy, Charlie "leiden" Ecenbarger has a list of his own!
- 144 diggs
- digg it
- orlando37, on 01/08/2008, -4/+4Pretty good list but as with all lists definitely missing some good song
- lamarkarmor, on 01/08/2008, -1/+3are you a boater?
- lamarkarmor, on 01/08/2008, -5/+5I wish you could goto a panel on xbox live and add the songs you want ala carte ... like an itunes mechanism... but if i had to add some more songs how about some LIVE?
- Duilen, on 01/08/2008, -3/+8I absolutely agree with 99 Red Balloons. Nice list.
- jaredvolkl, on 01/08/2008, -0/+2Make it Goldfinger's cover and I'm sold.
- dasutin, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1How about 99 Red Balloons in german!
- krostenvharles, on 01/08/2008, -2/+6Great list. What about more classic rock? I think Rock Band has a good selection of classic bands already, but what about some Led Zepplin (NOT Stairway), Doors, Beatles, or Cream? I think I'd add White Room and Sunshine of Your Love to the list.
- hollismb, on 01/08/2008, -0/+2Those are pretty hard to get Licenses for, it would seem. My understanding is the Zepplin pretty much won't license anything. And doesn't Micheal Jackson own a large amount of the Beatles songs?
- betterth, on 01/08/2008, -1/+1Zepplin and Beatles would NEVER put their music on a game like this. I mean, come on, Zepplin won't even sell it in on iTunes, and the Beatles JUST agreed to do that.
- hightower77, on 01/08/2008, -0/+2Um, Zepplin is on iTunes.
- signal15, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1Don't forget In-a-gadda-da-vida, the full 23 minute version of it, and the shorter radio version for the wusses. That song would be awesome on this game.
- barnett25, on 01/08/2008, -0/+2And they could have an Organ to play.
It would be awesome to see a 61-note playing area on the screen. Someone needs to photoshop a screenshot of this!
- barnett25, on 01/08/2008, -0/+2And they could have an Organ to play.
- thejwac, on 01/08/2008, -4/+8Hows about Radar Love by Golden Earring
- fadetoone, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1Good call.
- cbrunet, on 01/08/2008, -2/+9Still no love for AC/DC. What's the deal? I myself wouldn't mind seeing some Minus the Bear though, they would be a great addition to Rock Band. A great package.
- asdfrewq, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1For those of you wondering, I'm sure the makers of Rock Band would absolutely love to have AC/DC (and Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin and, hell why not, the Beatles) on their games lineup. The problem is these bands and/or the people controlling their interests are very protective of their respective back catalogs. Most of these bands have been very cautious of commercial licensing, and probably charge an arm and a leg in the process.
You could also bet your bottom dollar that if Rock Band (or Guitar Hero for that matter) were to land the rights to any of these big name marquee artists, they wouldn't let it out as downloadable content. A song from just one or two of these big name bands is enough to market a whole new game on, and if they're paying top dollar for the rights you can be pretty sure they're going to make the most of it. - allboyshatebras, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1Amen to Minus The Bear! I figure that expert level would have you play the lead on the top buttons (frets) and the looped rhythm on the bottom frets. Now that'd be something!
- asdfrewq, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1For those of you wondering, I'm sure the makers of Rock Band would absolutely love to have AC/DC (and Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin and, hell why not, the Beatles) on their games lineup. - orlando37, on 01/08/2008, -2/+4I agree with more AC/DC, how can you go wrong with that? Or how about twisted sister
- cbrunet, on 01/08/2008, -1/+4More? How about any....
- nnscott, on 01/08/2008, -2/+9"Gorillaz - Clint Eastwood" would be a great add. It would be fun on the drums and the mic.
- 1773nium, on 01/08/2008, -0/+2Agreed.
- doshindude, on 01/08/2008, -3/+25Needs some Weird Al.
- Braingoo, on 01/08/2008, -2/+3What couldn't?
- UncleHenry, on 01/08/2008, -0/+2Hardware Store = insta-classic
- lamarkarmor, on 01/08/2008, -5/+2weird al on rock band ... would just be pure weird.
- ncapone, on 01/08/2008, -0/+3So would hitting the reply button.
- JDoggqx, on 01/08/2008, -2/+15The set lists seem to be a little heavy on male vocals. There have been several girls I've played the game with that have made that complaint or wished for more female tracks.
- RaggTopp, on 01/08/2008, -2/+5I know several women that do just FINE singing the male vocal songs. It's checking for pitch NOT tone. Whether you're a man or a woman shouldn't have any bearing on whether or not you can stay in pitch.
A woman I know, who isn't a professional vocalist in any fashion, can easily get 99% on HARD with any song she knows already, both male and female vocals.
Basically, the girls you played with CAN'T sing and are trying to make excuses for it.- lavenderblue, on 01/08/2008, -1/+1I can sing just fine, but from an enjoyment perspective, it's nice to be able to try to match what the song actually sounds like.
- JDoggqx, on 01/08/2008, -0/+2Actually they can sing the male songs just fine. They just wish there were more female vocals for them to enjoy. Besides when you are luring non-gamer women into playing video games, the lower barrier to entry is through songs sung by women that they know and love.
- fadetoone, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1What? I don't think he said the girls he played with couldn't sing, they just complained that there weren't enough female vocal tracks.
I just blame it on the fact that there aren't enough good chick bands. I will say though, I've recently decided that the chick from Paramore has a great voice.
- lostsinner, on 01/08/2008, -1/+1Add my wife to that list, JD.
In flagrant defiance of Ragg's pronouncement that any woman who'd like to see more female vocals in the game is a complete bungler, she manages to nail just about every song on expert. I'm going to guess here and say that most women don't find the vocals themselves difficult, but would simply like to see more songs in the game that they can relate to. I can't speak for most men, but I know that I'd personally grow tired of singing about some gent who totally broke my heart, were that the majority of the songs in the game. Same goes for women singing men's parts.- barnett25, on 01/08/2008, -0/+2My wife complained that Guitar Hero doesn't have any songs she likes, until I pointed out that the songs she like don't have guitar.
- CedEx, on 01/08/2008, -0/+0Early No Doubt stuff would work perfect here.
- RaggTopp, on 01/08/2008, -2/+5I know several women that do just FINE singing the male vocal songs. It's checking for pitch NOT tone. Whether you're a man or a woman shouldn't have any bearing on whether or not you can stay in pitch.
- kingofthisnight, on 01/08/2008, -2/+8I would love to see a track pack from Clutch and Minus the Bear.
- tylerjames, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1That would be fine +2pts
- 10001110101, on 01/08/2008, -3/+18Any Clutch song. Any Pearl Jam song. More Soundgarden. More RHCP. Kyuss. Tool (damn, that would be insane).
- patrickxbateman, on 01/08/2008, -0/+2dugg for Kyuss
- woohhaa, on 01/08/2008, -0/+2My friend and I were playing GH3 co-op last night wishing they had some Tool. How bad ass would it be to play Stinkfist on GH or Rockband.
- fadetoone, on 01/08/2008, -1/+2Buried for RHCP.
- CapeKid, on 01/08/2008, -0/+110001110101, I wonder which Clutch song you would want in there.... :-P
- l0k0, on 01/08/2008, -1/+3Still Alive from Portal! That'll be interesting, but I really wish Tool songs were in Guitar Hero (without modding my console). I don't think they've ever licensed their music to movies or games, ever.
- gothsquirrel, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1Tool has a song on the Escape from LA soundtrack but as far as I know it is the only thing they have licensed their music to be in.
- fadetoone, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1Maybe some APC would be easier... I know Passive was in Constantine, and I think I remember some others...
- Totallypsyched, on 01/08/2008, -4/+6Maybe be some System of Down?
- Bobo44, on 01/08/2008, -4/+3Serj Tankian - Empty Walls
- wc3452, on 01/08/2008, -3/+6Raffi? Baby Beluga? Banana phone? Anyone?
- cheeseron, on 01/08/2008, -3/+14BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY is the song this game needs!
- Sandwiches_Time, on 01/08/2008, -2/+1And the faux opera part? How would that work?
- KingGorilla, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1That would be kinda difficult on the vocals
- UGM2099, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1That would be awesome. Nice drums on that song.
- FishHammer, on 01/08/2008, -0/+11who cares what songs he think should be in it? It's not like they're going to release a Rock Band: Charlie Ecenbarger Edition
- soot, on 01/08/2008, -2/+13I'd buy Rock Band if they put Lateralus on it. The whole album.
- lamarkarmor, on 01/08/2008, -1/+4mirror: http://64.233.169.104/search?q=cache:CdRB4-gV2MQJ: ...
- mr.hostility, on 01/08/2008, -0/+6It's criminal Pink Floyd wasn't included in the game. I guess it comes down to getting rights for the songs. It's a shame as they pretty optimize the meaning of Rock Band.
- booboolean, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1True, In that their line-up has been about as constant as the line-up of people playing Rock Band at a party.
- barnett25, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1I was listening to "Time" on my way home yesterday and thinking how awesome it would be to play that on Rock Band. I was working out what instruments could play the different sound effects at the beginning of the song. I think it could work!
- Unclekoolaid, on 01/08/2008, -1/+5The entire Pearl Jam library
- kevyn, on 01/08/2008, -1/+4lame. seriously, how can you pick a song by Serj "i used to be in a great band but now im rubbish" Tankian and miss out sooo many classics!
my advise: go buy some cheesy CD like 'greatest air guitar songs' or 'best of rock anthems' and put those chedder classics into rock band.
if your not man enough to do that, then by all means include some modern day classics? - lamarkarmor, on 01/08/2008, -1/+1actually this is it .. http://64.233.169.104/search?q=cache:057ff2LK73UJ: ...
- Synthesize, on 01/08/2008, -1/+4Haha, you think Tool would allow that? I wouldn't want to see that anyways. Can you imagine all these kids singing The Grudge?
- soot, on 01/08/2008, -0/+5Who cares, I'd play that song for the drum parts.
- prp40, on 01/08/2008, -4/+2I can't view the list because I am at work and its blocked but i would like to see some Blink 182(for the vocals), Avenged Sevenfold, SOAD, AC/DC, some better Aerosmith songs, more Nirvana, More Chili Peppers, and just more 80's to early nineties rock in general. Also some good new alternative would be great. Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, My Chemical Romance, Jimmy Eat World, Seether, Chevelle, etc.....and for the ladies some Evanesence(i think i spelled it right lol)
- homestar14, on 01/08/2008, -0/+17500 by Internal Server Error is one of my favorites.

or the song list here:
“Dead Man Walking” by Blood Simple – If whoever you have singing doesn’t mine destroying their throat, the hard riffs and the killer drums make this song a definite for rock band. I’ve been a long time fan of Blood Simple and there new single is just a monster. Catchy chorus and a great metal power chords, this song is a must for Rock Band.
“I’ve Got An Ape Drape” by The Vandals – Over the holiday season, I was hoping to see “Oi to the World” however my dreams did not come true. That does not mean all hope is lost! I’ve got an ape drape is a fun and catchy punk song from one of the greatest west coast punk bands out there. I can imagine the drums and guitar being quite repetitive, but the singing would just be loads of fun, and I can just imagine the people you’re playing with chiming in during the chorus.
“Still Alive” from Portal – Is there anything more obvious? A hit song from a hit game. Now, there may not be drums or anything like that, but who cares?! Make up random riffs and just play along and enjoy the song.
“Empty Walls” by Serj Tankian – The new single from System of a Down’s front man Serj is phenomenal. He really captures the SOAD style but at the same time, makes it his own. The guitar line is amazing, the bass groove is great and the drums really capture your attention with the pacing of the song.
“Tommy the Cat” by Primus – Or any Primus song really. A lot of people joke about the bass just being a boring guitar part, however with the addition of any Primus song, it automatically makes the guitar take second string to the bass. Just to change things up a bit and make the bass the main focus, a Primus pack is a must for Rock Band.
“Famous for Nothing” by The Dropkick Murphys – I love the Murphys and I’m pretty sure most people find them at least fun. Easy vocals, good guitar, good bass, and great drumming, I fail to see a reason why having a DKM song pack or just one song in the game would hurt. It’s fun, it’s fast, and it’s easy. It’d be a great change of pace to be rocking out to Famous For Nothing.
“Fight Till You Die” by Pennwise – Come on now, I challenge to anyone to name a better “get pumped and kick some ass” song. I personally don’t think it’s possible. Pennywise has got that area on lock down with this song. Now as long as you don’t get too pumped and pummel a fellow Rock Band’er with your axe, I don’t see why this song should be left out.
“She’s Gonna Break Soon” by Less Than Jake – Maybe with adding some ska to Rock Band and having a good turn out with it, there will be a chance of Mad Catz and Harmonix of making some horn instruments. I have no idea how that would work and it probably wouldn’t work out very well. But that’s besides the point. Rock Band needs more SKA! That’s right, I’m willing to go there.
“Your Sweet Six Six Six” by H.I.M – I know a lot of my choices are probably some stuff you haven’t heard of, and that will never see the light of day in Rock Band. I also know that Rock Band seems to follow a certain format with the songs they pick to be in the game. And if they decide to keep with that format, that’s fine, however, HIM would be a definite choice for a band/song that many people may not know, but does fit the style of songs they put in their game. It’s harder than most songs, but softer than others I have listed. It seems to fall right into the mix that they are setting up for Rock Band.
“99 Red Balloons” by Goldfinger – I like the Goldfinger version because it isn’t all in German. Only half of it is. And I just think it would be hilarious listening to people try and sing it. Unless you speak German. If that’s the case, it probably won’t be funny at all.
“Rookie” by boysetsfire – BSF is easily one of my favorite bands ever, and Rookie is the song that got me into them. However, since the band has ceased to exist and had a relatively small following, my hopes for ever playing Rookie on anything but Phase are slim. It’s straight up political Rock with some traces of metal and anger. I highly suggest anyone check it out and at least download Rookie, just incase Harmonix masters the technology they used in Phase and we can import our own music to Rock Band 2.
“Fly” by Blind Guardian – If you haven’t heard of Blind Guardian, that’s a real shame. I guess you can say they are kind of along the same lines of Dragon Force. Really technical, really power metal, and really awesome. I like Dragon Force fine, but Guitar Hero kind of made them their staple and I think Rock Band should make BG theirs.- barnett25, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1I have only heard of Less Than Jake and Dropkick Murphys. I guess I am really out of touch with the music scene.
- RaggTopp, on 01/08/2008, -0/+5Ok how about this....since rockband lets you play BASS and DRUMS..........why not some Primus...you know for the INSANE difficulty level.
- prp40, on 01/08/2008, -0/+0Hell Yea.....i dont know the name of the song exactly but the one about the big brown beaver....instant classic....
- dhVyse, on 01/08/2008, -2/+4I want some more Coheed and Cambria songs.
- pelayostyle, on 01/08/2008, -0/+133 !!!
- cheesecake42, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1melt banana! that would be the craziest guitar part ever
- betterth, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1I think Harmonix should create a song-generator that creates the roles based on the music. It'd be difficult to do _right_ as hell but *****, if anyone can do it, they could. Then we could all play all of our music on Rock Band.
Maybe put an editor in there so we could manually clean up some of the auto-generated stuff.- phronko, on 01/08/2008, -0/+3I think it'd be pretty much impossible to separate the song into 5 different tracks (4 instruments and the rest) with just the mp3 or CD to work from. Maybe it could create a note chart to play along with the song, but playing along with it is not the same as playing it. Playing the instrument has to feel like it's making the sounds come out of the speakers to really be effective.
- igjoe, on 01/08/2008, -0/+2Does anyone know where to find the weekly song release schedule for 2008? I can only find the Winter 2007 press release.
- jaredvolkl, on 01/08/2008, -1/+2Rock Band needs more metal. And I'm not talking Dragonforce. I want to play some Unearth, Darkest Hour, Lamb of God, As I Lay Dying, or something along those lines.
- Tyrghast, on 01/08/2008, -1/+1dragonforce, lamb of god, as i lay dying, none of those can hold a candle to real metal bands like dream theater and mercenary. *shoulder shrug* just sayin'
- jaredvolkl, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1I would be OK with those too, not my particular favorites, but hey, more metal is all I'm sayin.
- Tyrghast, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1damn you jared i was hoping to pick a fight
- Tyrghast, on 01/08/2008, -1/+1dragonforce, lamb of god, as i lay dying, none of those can hold a candle to real metal bands like dream theater and mercenary. *shoulder shrug* just sayin'
- Ndiggnation, on 01/08/2008, -0/+6"Everyones playing it, and if you aren't. I don't know what to say." I'm not. I had a bad breakup, and have simply waited for an Air Supply version that I can play alone, while drinking myself to sleep. :)
- antiorblkflag9, on 01/08/2008, -1/+5This guy has a horrible taste in music (excusing Primus of course)
- UGM2099, on 01/08/2008, -0/+2and not surprisingly is a music snob: "If you haven’t heard of Blind Guardian, that’s a real shame."
- UGM2099, on 01/08/2008, -0/+2and not surprisingly is a music snob: "If you haven’t heard of Blind Guardian, that’s a real shame."
- Coffeedemon, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1Nomeansno - Oh No Bruno; Dismemberment Plan - Girl O'Clock; Bad Religion - I Want to Conquer the World. Simple 3 pack.
- jaredvolkl, on 01/08/2008, -0/+2Oooh, Bad Religion - American Jesus would be sweet as hell.
- ncapone, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1Brighton Rock, please!
- catalysis, on 01/08/2008, -1/+1Keep in mind that a lot of good bands would never license their songs for something like this, if they have control over the rights.
- phronko, on 01/08/2008, -0/+3Yeah, because GOOD musicians don't want people enjoying their music to its full extent. GOOD musicians want people listening to the CD alone in their bedroom.
- barnett25, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1A Rock Band gig is basically a public performance isn't it? So you would have to pay the same as the radio stations for each song?

yay for google cache, but i have to say dude, learn to proofread. - ideameansfly, on 01/08/2008, -0/+2I'd like to give Meshuggah - Spasm a try ;D
- Moshcrates, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1Messugah would cause most player's brains to collapse from the constant shifting in timing
- woohhaa, on 01/08/2008, -1/+3I say it could use a healthy dose of Alice in Chains.
- TnTBass, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1I'd love to add a lot of songs to that list... however, not all are "Rock", so I keep having to remind myself that by adding my favorite songs, I'd be breaking the "Rock" theme.
Fracking awesome game though... was playing with a buddy and his gf, which is amazing in itself, cause she never plays games. - fzammetti, on 01/08/2008, -1/+3Just to name a few must-have's:
Dream Theater - Pull Me Under, Metropolis, Forsaken
Queensryche - I Don't Believe In Love, Empire, Eyes Of A Stranger
Pink Floyd - Time, On The Turning Away
Fates Warning - Another Perfect Day
Enchant - What To Say/Know That, My Enemy
Billy Joel - Big Shot, A Matter Of Trust
Journey - Wheel In The Sky, Separate Ways
Jonathan Coulton - Code Monkey
Damn Yankees - High Enough
DragonForce - Dawn Over A New World
REO Speedwagon - Take It on The Run
Savatage - Edge Of Thorns
Shadow Gallery - Room V, The Andromeda Strain, Rain
Survivor - Eye Of The Tiger
Dennis Leary - ***** (no drums as I recall, but I'm sure some simplistic beats could be added)
(generically, ANYTHING from Dream Theater, Queensryche or Shadow Gallery... then again, I'm not sure I'd want to hear myself, my family or any of my friends try to singe LaBrie, Tate or Baker vocals!)- barnett25, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1Since that one commercial a year or two ago I have had "Eye of the Tiger" stuck in my head. I would love to play it in Rock Band!
- tandusi23, on 02/14/2008, -0/+0OMG!!!! I thought I was the only one! WE TOTALLY NEED "CODE MONKEY"!! :D
- barnett25, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1Since that one commercial a year or two ago I have had "Eye of the Tiger" stuck in my head. I would love to play it in Rock Band!
- Moshcrates, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1Still needs some Between the Buried and Me and also some Dillinger Escape Plan. My two favorite bands. Very fast and technical. 43% Burnt and Alaska would be great to play
- Coffeedemon, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1BTBAM would be better in Guitar Hero just for the sake of the poor vocalist although the drums would be a blast. A full length Ants of the Sky or All Bodies would be ace.
- DrvThruPnk, on 01/08/2008, -0/+2wtf? Why did he list one of Less Than Jake's worse songs that barely even uses horns in it as an example of ska?!
- ClownbloodBZ, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1I'm sorry, but how can "She's Gonna Break Soon" be a good representation of ska music? It's not even a good representation of Less Than Jake.
- leiden, on 01/10/2008, -0/+0It's one of their bigger songs that most people know and because it isn't horn heavy and can focus on the other parts.
- FatherDEath, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1FASDFASDFASDFS damn low bandwidth servers government needs to give everyone fios
- Erukian, on 01/08/2008, -0/+4Journey - Don't stop believing. Family guy version.
- EnderMB, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1YES! Finally someone said it. Journey simply has to be in Rock Band! I'd buy it just for that.
- cbreaker, on 01/08/2008, -1/+1"Easily the best game" ohh, I think it's pretty silly, but I can see how it could be fun for someone. Just not me, nor anyone I actually know in real life.
You know what's more fun than pretending you're in a band? Actually being in one. And after seeing some of the people play this game, I don't think it would be a tremendously difficult upgrade to an actual real instrument.- Coffeedemon, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1Being in a band is overrated if you're older than 16 and have a job. The occasional living room jam aside.
- MRintheKeys, on 01/08/2008, -0/+0Good lord, are people STILL making their case about this?
- cbreaker, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1I wasn't aware this was a case, but then again I don't live on digg every day..
- MRintheKeys, on 01/09/2008, -0/+0Let me guess, you are one of those guys that kicks ass in CoD4 and believes that you alone could end the turmoil in Iraq....it's a game, dude. Get over it.
- cbreaker, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1I wasn't aware this was a case, but then again I don't live on digg every day..
