- grifta67, on 07/19/2008, -2/+92the sequel is a lie.
- deltron, on 07/19/2008, -0/+38I was hoping we'd be outside of the test facility this time.
- MasterGrief, on 07/19/2008, -4/+36This is a semi-triumph.
- AEdgett77, on 07/19/2008, -3/+27I can live with the same plot.
- rjc5056, on 07/19/2008, -3/+26What's all this I'm hearing about deceptive baked goods? It could certainly bear repeating in the DLC so I get another 4 months of wit from around the internets.
- VgRasta, on 07/19/2008, -2/+23I'm making a note here: some success

...and killed me.
And tore me to pieces.
And threw every piece into a fire. - scooterbaga, on 07/18/2008, -2/+21Sounds like a vehicle for the DLC we should've gotten with Orange Box.
...Don't care. Must have.
Here's hoping there's a level editor, and user trading of custom maps... and cheap/free DLC. - aatreides, on 07/19/2008, -0/+17They are a larger consumer base, and Valve has been a PC developer since 1998.
- daebat, on 07/18/2008, -2/+18at least there is promise of more sequels or even a rendition of the original. i'd rather them stick with something that works than murder the original by completely changing everything around.
- Seantacular, on 07/19/2008, -2/+18It's not too hard to overstate my satisfaction.
- iammzac, on 07/19/2008, -1/+15Pics or GTFO!
- Tigergrape, on 07/19/2008, -2/+12We do a little, because we can
- Acglaphotis, on 07/19/2008, -1/+11You know you can have both, right?
- pharekyz, on 07/19/2008, -0/+10I trust you completely. You ARE from the internet after all!
- palehorse864, on 07/19/2008, -0/+10For anyone who has the XBOX 360 orange box, I have a question. Does the portal version on the XBOX 360 come with any challenges or advanced levels? The PC version has a number of challenges (You repeat the same maps, but you have to complete them in a certain number of steps, amount of time, or number of portals used. Complete the map in 5 portals or less, etc.).
There are also advanced levels which are the same levels, but with acid in certain places that there weren't before, metal walls in certain places so you can't make portals, and other extra hazards to make the map harder.
Does the XBOX 360 get these? If not, this may be what they are adding. - Frogee, on 07/19/2008, -2/+11for the good of some of us
- tedrock, on 07/19/2008, -0/+9you can... for the PC :D
- Acglaphotis, on 07/19/2008, -1/+10That has to be the worst use of that meme I've ever seen.
- positron, on 07/19/2008, -0/+9But if they add a level editor how are they going to sell you the same game with different levels again?
- gnarnia, on 07/19/2008, -3/+11Aperture Science?
- Black6x, on 07/19/2008, -2/+10Except the ones on life support.
- relaxeder, on 04/17/2009, -1/+9Five bucks somebody will make these "exclusive" maps for free on the PC within a week.
- rivs, on 07/19/2008, -0/+8Yeah, it has them.
- LucasVB, on 07/19/2008, -1/+8Lies.
- Katana314, on 07/19/2008, -0/+7"You don't want to know what it's like out there..."
Personally, I like the test facility. Certainly easy to map for as well. - inactive, on 07/19/2008, -0/+6I don't think Portal: Still Alive and Portal 2 are to be considered the same. Portal: Still Alive is more of an extended version of Portal, and Portal 2 will be released later as a true sequel.
- Connerd117, on 07/19/2008, -0/+6Unless you have it on the 360 or PS3. I know, "PC gaming is better than console gaming because of mods" but tell that to my 300$ crappy computer.
- purplesawdust, on 07/19/2008, -1/+7I don't mind some Portal filler to play while i am waiting for Portal 2.
- JettaMan, on 07/19/2008, -1/+7If you have the Orange Box, what would be the point of getting this game? Sounds like there won't be any real difference.
- sweatyyeti, on 07/19/2008, -1/+6Because not everyone owns the Orange Box? Portal was released as a stand-along game on PC so why not on xbox.
- palehorse864, on 07/19/2008, -0/+5Thanks.
- xxbrighteyed, on 07/19/2008, -0/+4I did say this in a reply above, and sweatyeti did touch on it here, but by making it a standalone, they're allowing for people who don't have Orange Box to purchase it, as well as those that do - I imagine that Portal is a game that appeals to a much wider audience than Half Life 2 and Team Fortress
- nothing4me, on 07/19/2008, -0/+4But there's some sense crying over every mistake.
- djruden, on 07/20/2008, -0/+4I may start trying if I run out of cake.
- Katana314, on 07/19/2008, -0/+4You SKIPPED on GLADOS?
MURDERER! - chillypacman, on 07/19/2008, -0/+4"Here's hoping there's a level editor, and user trading of custom maps... and cheap/free DLC."
There's a level editor with the PC version, as well as user trading of custom maps.. and cheap/free DLC for PC users too.
However if they added an easy to use level editor there's no way it owuld be xbox exclusive. - lordtyros, on 07/19/2008, -0/+4Really? But I thought the PC can only be used for games and you have to spend $2000 a month to upgrade it!
Console fanboys, you lied to me! - vault, on 07/19/2008, -0/+3one of the most fun games I've ever played- portal is in a class of its own. if you like puzzle/problem-solving games, that is.
- fishpen0, on 07/19/2008, -0/+3Link?
- Remmiz, on 07/19/2008, -0/+3If they aren't released simultaneously by Valve, I know I will be jumping on this.
- fokov, on 07/19/2008, -1/+4Just download the free custom maps already provided by the community.
- xxbrighteyed, on 07/19/2008, -0/+2@ scooterbaga
By making it a standalone, they're allowing for people who don't have Orange Box to purchase it, as well as those that do - iammzac, on 07/19/2008, -1/+3I wish there was a course creator so you could make your own portal room.
- shiftless, on 07/19/2008, -0/+2You missed something there...
- gadgetlust, on 07/19/2008, -2/+4If you're looking for a portal fix and have a DS and linker, check out the homebrew "Still Alive DS" -- it's 2D but it's quite good! http://stillaliveds.free.fr/index.php
- stevenk87, on 07/19/2008, -0/+2This was completely expected, but still disappointing. Oh well, at least we know that development on Portal 2 is up and running.
- Tophillious, on 07/19/2008, -1/+2I didn't really expect anyone to believe me. His maps are free to download from the interwebz though.
- Darkangel754, on 07/20/2008, -0/+1100% correct, who the hell dugg you down?
- NoDisk, on 07/19/2008, -0/+1"At today's E3 press conference, the company teased a new installment called Portal: Still Alive. Essentially an expansion for the original game, Still Alive will feature new stages and Achievements, and be available exclusively on Xbox Live Arcade this fall. GLaDOS tells us the Enrichment Center has been hard at work, which should at least keep us satisfied until Portal 2 comes next year." - 1up
Portal 2 is coming.
Not that I want to interfere with an obligatory regurgitation of a calcified joke that's almost reached that ripe state of eye-rolling familiarity necessary for its eventual incarnation as Xplay promo-text... I just don't want people to be mislead into thinking there isn't a sequel.
Portal 2 is currently slated to drop 12/15/08, a couple months after Still Alive. Worry not, I'm sure it will offer new sustenance for meme-seeking automatic typers. -
