- username9000, on 11/28/2008, -1/+12jasper is a motherboard revision, not a new SKU.
- inactive, on 11/28/2008, -3/+10Oh yes.
- GrooveXP, on 11/28/2008, -5/+12It really is just a minor inconvenience at best. Mine died last month, sent it in and got it back in 2 weeks. Free shipping, free repair and a free month of gold to boot. You know what I did when I didn't have my 360? Rather than make posts about how the 360 red rings soooo much I found other stuff to do. It's really not that hard to find something to do other than play video games.
- tremerevamp, on 11/28/2008, -2/+7As an observation:
My lousy 'kill-a-watt' clone ( http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=ms6115 ) shows my X360 rarely going above ~95W, when playing games or even 720p H264.
This is a new 'Arcade' box which I bought mid year and later added the 20GB HDD that Microsoft was offering..
So the 175W PSU that came with it had quite a bit of margin.
This is on par with my current Windows box - a recent Core 2 Duo 4600 CPU but only a 6600GT (time to upgrade).. - fattehboi, on 11/28/2008, -5/+10RROD better be history...
- MetalHead73, on 11/28/2008, -5/+9I don't know, nor do I care. I got 2 years of warranty left, and the one time I had to send it back, i got it back in just over a week.
It's nothing more then a minor inconvenience - Topher06, on 11/28/2008, -1/+5But, the real question is, does it solve RROD for good, or just do it in wonderful new ways. Aside from only a small had ful of games I would want to own, I haven't bought an Xbox360 due to quality issues, both the RROD and the overall quality of the product itself. Microsoft has updated the firmware to make the interface for Xbox360 a better expreience and more polished, this motherboard sounds like its an improvement, but I wish Microsoft sould spend a little more on the quality of the design and materials used for the case for the Xbox360. I doubt Microsoft will, but a smaller, sleekier sexier case is probably not in the cards as they look to continue to cut costs as the only reason to stay ahead of Sony and the PS3.
- deealf, on 11/28/2008, -5/+7looks like I'll have to get a 360 soon then
- KboT, on 11/28/2008, -7/+8Excellent indeed, however will this 'Jasper' version cost the same/replace the Xbox arcade version? And also, does it include the HDMI port?
- doshindude, on 11/28/2008, -7/+8Nobody ***** cares. The RROD jokes aren't funny anymore.
- inactive, on 12/23/2008, -0/+1I don't call having to mail your system away for 3 weeks, and wait between the hours of 9 and 5 on the scheduled day for it to return, a minor inconvenience. Hell I don't even consider talking to tech support minor
- chaosblade77, on 11/28/2008, -3/+4Was this delayed or were the dates that were floating around just incorrect? I thought Jasper was supposed to be "released" just after the price drop, and then get followed up by Valhalla (merging of the CPU and GPU on one chip at 45nm) late next year?
In any case, the flash memory is a nice addition. The rest is old news. - ElliotShoe, on 11/29/2008, -1/+2256mb flash... couldn't they have include something a bit bigger?
- doted, on 11/29/2008, -0/+1it won't perform any differently. dont worry so.
- doted, on 11/29/2008, -0/+1the 256MB is just enough to solve the issue that the NXE's avatar system requires a small amount of storage at a very low cost to microsoft.
- doted, on 11/29/2008, -0/+1to be more clear, the motherboard revision won't change costs, and will continue to include an HDMI port.
there have been many hardware revisions. - Choj, on 11/28/2008, -0/+1I love Yes! Yes is the ***** dude. And I'm not talking Rabin-era Yes, either. I'm talkin bout some CLOSE TO THE EDGE. Good ole Mr. Howe tearing up Roundabout and that fruitcake Jon Anderson singing about the Revealing Science of God...
- Zamfir, on 11/28/2008, -7/+7MINOR INCONVENIENCE!? You ***** Microsoft SHILL... WTF!?
- hadiz, on 11/29/2008, -1/+1I was hoping we'd be hearing something about a slim, revamped 360. I would definitely buy another one if that turns out to be real, but this Jasper motherboard is enticing as well.
- CollapseControl, on 11/29/2008, -3/+2whoa, calm down child, grow the ***** up.
- yokozuka, on 11/28/2008, -5/+3I'm sure the new 65nm GPU will help towards eliminating or reducing the incidence of RROD. OK, I'm not sure. I just hope.
- inactive, on 11/29/2008, -3/+1*****. Why did I have to buy a 360 so early? I'm really going to miss out. :(
- MrJ777, on 11/28/2008, -15/+9How fast does it get the Red Ring Of Death??????
- lovemorgul, on 11/28/2008, -10/+3Here a new units allegedly come with a new south bridge and surprise.
