- LANjackal, on 07/19/2009, -3/+61There are people out there who thought Natal would *replace* the 360? RLY? MS made it clear from the get-go that it was an HID technology, not a gaming platform.
- TaeKwonDonkey, on 07/20/2009, -1/+48Dear Microsoft,
Please do not screw up this lovely technology by charging more than $150 for it or releasing it one year before the next xbox comes out. Speaking of the next xbox, please make sure it does not suffer from the you-know-what and make it slot loading. Also I want it to include bluetooth support and a free internet browser. I will understand if you do not include a Blu-Ray player if it significantly drives up the price but if it doesn't do not not include just because Sony won the format war. Toshiba got over it, why can't you? Oh, I want at least a 120GB harddrive from the start. Everyday spent with this 20GB harddrive is like another day in the 1995 memory prison.
Kthxbai - kinseyincanada, on 07/20/2009, -6/+39$40? are you freaking kidding me? this will not cost $40 at the best it will be $100 and include a game of some sort, it worked with Wii Fit and it might work for Natal, but if you honestly think it will be 40 and include a game? then your delusional.
- NeoTechni, on 07/20/2009, -2/+29"FPS on Natal would be awesome. Just point your gun at the screen and fire."
Sounds like you want to try Time Crisis for PS3.
"You can move around, crouch, lean, etc. It would revolutionize gaming!"
Now turn 180 degrees, while looking at your TV - Mtown, on 07/19/2009, -4/+28While Natal is cool technology and all, does anybody actually WANT to play games like this? It will be fun in simple wii-like games, but in FPS's RPG's, ANYTHING else, it will be annoying.
- chaosblade77, on 07/20/2009, -1/+23Sounds like a terrible idea. I want to relax when I play games, not jump around my room.
- cozamonkey, on 07/20/2009, -3/+16There's no way in hell that that will work properly in the next few years. At best.
- cor315, on 07/20/2009, -3/+15If Sony and Microsoft teamed up, the next console would the greatest console ever.
***** Nintendo. - inactive, on 07/20/2009, -3/+14$40.
There, the free market has decided. Make it so. - Zippo, on 07/20/2009, -1/+12Yeah, that worked beautifully. I've always wanted to see an avatar spasm the hell out.
- Tubetrotter, on 07/20/2009, -1/+11Leave his delusional alone!
Leave it alone! I'm serious! - elrac, on 07/20/2009, -0/+9@HowelTankerbell
Okay, so I need to look behind myself, I turn 90* to the right (this is clockwise BTW) and the character in the game turns 180° right and is facing in the opposite direction. This would leave the player looking over their left shoulder uncomfortably. Now what if for some reason I need to turn 5 more degrees clockwise, I can't go clockwise any further or my neck will snap, so I have to go 355° in the other direction. All of this and I haven't even mentioned how uncomfortable it would be to walk (however you would accomplish that) while you are watching the television over your shoulder. - Zippo, on 07/20/2009, -3/+11I'm still skeptical about just how well Natal's going to work in real world scenarios. Some of the more basic concepts are definitely possible, but I can see the voice and facial recognition being buggy at best if you've got a family... and the moment one person walks in front of another, things are going to get completely screwed up.
But hey, MS... feel free to prove me wrong! I'd be thrilled if you did. - lastmaster, on 07/20/2009, -0/+8Remember Nintendo's U-force or the Sega activator anyone? I just don't see this being successful.
- videodroner, on 07/20/2009, -0/+8Milking the consumer?
We have three [ok, 2] great consoles that I can see lasting for many years. I'd rather pay for upgrades to make their experience better rather than a whole new console with whole new everything. - Joest23, on 07/20/2009, -1/+9I don't know. The technology that Natal uses is only as good as the games that utilize it. I mean, look at the Wii. The technology that is used in the Wii is great but 90% of the games released for it are crap/shameless cash grabs/don't utilize the technology. If we can have a racing game or a new Skate or kickboxing/fighting game or RPG that utilizes Natal's technology like the trailer did at E3, it will be amazing and be reason for Sony and Nintendo to really start sweating. Otherwise, it's just an impressive a piece of technology with a lack of genuinely good content and support.
- Ugotownedo, on 07/20/2009, -0/+7IF it works perfectly...
Which it won't, nothing ever does. - inactive, on 07/20/2009, -0/+6Then my delusional WHAT?
Don't you dare insult my delusional. I'm srsly. - purplesawdust, on 07/19/2009, -13/+19what would you spend on Natal?
$100 is the magic number for me - inactive, on 07/20/2009, -2/+8I foresee a lot of boring repetitive party games coming to the 360, just like the Wii.
All this great technology, all this excitement and hype... and the game will have me doing simple motions, or will give me the option between virtually "balancing a ball on my head" or "pumping the controller up and down as if you were inflating a tire!" Ugh.
No way in hell you'd ever improve epic games with that thing. How would that help CoD, or GTA?
The potential is there, but I don't think they'll embrace it. Another gimmick :( - shane1337, on 07/20/2009, -0/+5fta: "Consumers don't want another $400 box right now." -- that is key. there isn't enough advancement to make me want to buy a new console.
The graphics aren't going to be a hell of a lot better, the hard drive is upgradeable, online gaming isn't going to get much better, so the only pony to back is motion capture, and with the current hardware offering it as a $100 upgrade is actually pretty smart..
It is clever to get the customer to invest money in their console, rather then cast it aside when the next best thing comes out, because every time you have a large switch, or your console breaks, you risk losing people. Look at the last generation, ps2 had it locked - large upgrade time, a large portion of those sony customers bought a 360. If your 360 dies and you have a couple hundred invested in it, you are going to buy a new 360, rather then a ps3. - NeoTechni, on 07/21/2009, -0/+5PSeye is a high defintion motion tracking system with a 4 microphone array and cost LESS with a game
- lastmaster, on 07/20/2009, -1/+6Maybe I am a sceptic... but I doubt Microsoft will be able to pull this off.
- brdrk, on 07/20/2009, -1/+6Well just think if you could use hand gestures in war games. You could use your hand to signal your teammates to flank a direction instead of opening a menu and choosing it. You'd still use the controller but you now have many more "buttons" you can use on the fly.
- nunofgs, on 07/20/2009, -0/+5You have to let go of the controller though. In an online FPS match, for example, it's suicide.
- NeoTechni, on 07/21/2009, -0/+5@xppro
again, it sounds like you want time crises for ps3 - ZenMojo, on 07/20/2009, -0/+4Natal. PC.
http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/gates-natal- ...
Guess I don't really have a reason to buy a 360. - piratearggghhh, on 07/20/2009, -1/+5I'm going to keep an open mind with this one. I'm looking forward to games that completely immerse you not just in terms of controls but just being able to interact with game characters at a whole new level - like what the tech demo showed. I can imagine RPGs on steroids where you can talk to characters as well as direct battles by simply pointing at enemies etc. Regardless, I'm just glad we're breaking the model of better graphics, more memory, controller with more buttons. A minority report-type interface would be awesome.
- NeoTechni, on 07/21/2009, -0/+4*crisis.
The Guncon3 uses sensor bars (so it works on HDTVs) 6 times faster than the wiimote
It has dual analog sticks, and an array of buttons.
Time Crisis for PS3 has an FPS mode that lets you use the analog sticks to walk around and turn, and you use the lightgun function to aim, and obviously the trigger to shoot.
It's exactly what you guys want - nicktomyskins, on 07/20/2009, -2/+6my 2007 did the same a week ago, i was hoping natal would replace 360
- elrac, on 07/20/2009, -0/+4How can you move around? Any 1 to 1 movement mapping would mean that to look behind you, or even just to the side, would result in you no longer looking at the television screen. Walking would have to be some sort of footwork that keeps you in one place. All movement would have to be approximations of the movements you want to make, which would seem to defeat the entire purpose of the device, at least for FPSes. Now, an FPS where everyone is on a skateboard, or a Segway, may work.
- megaton, on 07/20/2009, -0/+4Why are you calling me a troll when you're agreeing with me?
And I enjoy and support ALL THREE systems, so why am I being buried as a troll, at all? :(
I luh yuh.... *bats eyes* - TypeEE, on 07/20/2009, -0/+4Can you play more than 1 hour? RPG usually require you to gain experience for hours.
- Mockylock, on 07/20/2009, -0/+4Yeah.. when I sit down in front of the console, the last thing on my mind is being active. Beer, food and possibly pissing is much higher.
- J3553, on 07/20/2009, -1/+4if we had gotten used to having to stand in our living rooms flailing our arms and legs around in order to play video games, how would we react if they came out with a controller that only required you to push buttons in order to do the same actions and you could do it from the comfort of your couch or favorite chair?
is this really a breakthrough in gaming, or is it just something different? - chiefbandit2200, on 07/21/2009, -0/+3You don't have to worry about Bioshock 2. It's multiplatform (not to mention thoroughly in production by now), so it obviously won't be ruined with anything Natal.
- ShloppyJoe, on 07/20/2009, -2/+5"'Project' Natal" Is just the code name. The name of the product once it will be released is yet to be named.
- megaton, on 07/20/2009, -2/+5I think there's potential.
It's a lot more robust than Wii's motion-detection, so things like facial recognition and full-body motion recognition could be used to augment many traditional games, without ruining their normal play.
For example, imagine being able to nod or shake your head to answer an NPC. Or removing your hand from the remote for a moment to "wave away" some smoke obscuring your view. (Or wiping down a fog-covered window, etc.) Or even more subtle things, like knowing when you're looking at the screen and responding differently when you look away. (Think Mario's Boo's.)
Of course, all the "fun" stuff (like head tracking, body tracking, etc.) is possible, too. Remember, this isn't so limited as to require you to flick your wrist to add a "feature" into a game. This has a lot more potential than that, fortunately. - MatzahMan, on 07/20/2009, -1/+4no it would not at all, you would get your ass handed to you. why not just press a button to crouch, jump, or do whatever instead of moving. Opponents that don't use it would have that advantage over you. Besides, why do any movements with your body when you already have a controller in your hand.
- nunofgs, on 07/20/2009, -0/+3People might bury you, but I for one agree.
Natal will be very good for casual games with the family. Bad with every successful game currently on the Xbox platform. - nicktomyskins, on 07/20/2009, -3/+6$39.98
I like discounts - MrFisty, on 07/21/2009, -0/+3Thanks to the Xbox and Playstation cameras, I've already seen more than enough people point their "guns" at the screen.
- hotshotveggie, on 07/20/2009, -0/+3I thought about this too, it honestly makes me sad. I wonder why this is the case though? Maybe it's just nostalgia, but I've always thought the last generation of gaming (especially GBA and PS2 for me) had a much much better selection of fun games than these last five years.
- readme, on 07/20/2009, -4/+7Natal is dumb. It made good E3 hype for MS but no self-respecting gamer is going to want to wag their arms around like and idiot to change a tire in Forza.
- Ugotownedo, on 07/20/2009, -2/+5Yeah, but the thing is that PS3 and 360 couldn't even get one of their biggest games (GTA 4 and Halo 3) to render in native 720p. It had to be upscaled. If Rockstar and Bungie, among the best of developers, couldn't even meet the HD standard then I doubt anyone will be able to develop a real-time system where the console can recognize potentially thousands of different gestures in a fraction of a second while simultaneously producing Call of Duty level graphics.
Natal on the current Xbox will only be used for simpler games like Wii Sports. In Wii Sports, all the 360 will need to handle is a handful of gestures, like left/right swing, backhanded right/left swing, serving, etc. But we'll have to wait until the next generation of consoles (2012 to 2015) until we see games which include the thousands of gestures in just one game, like clearing smoke in FPS's and stuff like that. - Ouze, on 07/20/2009, -7/+10my 2005 360 just rrod'd on me for the first time a week ago
eat a dick, MS - Mockylock, on 07/20/2009, -0/+2Yeah.. it'll be a good X-Mas seller, like the Fit. After people use it for a while, it'll collect dust with the rest of them. Probably about as popular as the eye-toy.

88 Worth Playing
If you are a light-gunslinger, if you're in it for the fun of realistic point-and-shoot, perhaps inviting a few friends over for taking turns at high-score challenges — the game also supports a second Guncon 3 controller, not included in the bundle, for two-player arcade-mode games — you'll almost certainly enjoy Time Crisis 4. And you'll save wads of dollar bills you'd otherwise feed into arcade token exchangers.
80 Playstation: The Official Magazine (US)
However, with five difficulty modes, an optional crosshair view, and extra mini-games, Time Crisis 4 should appeal to just about any arcade-lovin' audience...provided they have deep enough pockets. [Jan 2008, p.85]
80 IGN
Packed with a ton of unlockable content and a large amount of replayability, Time Crisis 4 is a fun game for any shooting fan looking to blast away with their PS3. The FPS Complete Mission mode places a new spin on the franchise, and the Crisis Missions and mini-games only extends the title's lifespan.
80 TotalPlayStation
Time Crisis 4 is an instant buy for long-time fans of the series. It really is a damn fine game, and the new Guncon has some potential for great games. At its core, the arcade game represents the perfect approximation of what it'd be like to be in a Jerry Bruckheimer action flick, and though it's over quickly, while it lasts, it's a blast.
80 GamePro
The game is still a blast, even if you eventually get tired of it. If you're a PS3 owner who loves light-gun games then Time Crisis 4 is the only game you need; it's also the only game you can have.
80 G4 TV
This package should make any arcade lover happy.
76 Console Monster
Although there are some rather negative elements of Time Crisis 4, it's still the only game on the PS3 that currently uses any form of light gun technology, and that alone makes it worth while.
75 ZTGameDomain
Time Crisis 4 is an exceptionally well-designed game that only suffers the crime of being an out-of-date genre.
That doesn't say "suck" to me. I wouldn't have recommended it if I didn't like it. - Syphon9, on 07/21/2009, -1/+3They once had? How could they have less of an impact on the GAMING INDUSTRY now than they once had. Seeing as this is their second console.
Idiot. - bilbravo, on 07/21/2009, -0/+2Why ask a question then digg down when they give THEIR answer.
