- inactive, on 11/21/2007, -10/+78Just before Black Friday, how convenient...
- dsmatrix, on 11/21/2007, -10/+70If you break rules, you have to pay the consequences.
- vitriolage, on 11/21/2007, -4/+49They can, but it's Microsoft's service they can ban whoever they want...
- heinousjay, on 11/21/2007, -2/+41Cancel the service? The one they banned you from? Yeah, that'll show em. Fight the power!
- inajeep, on 11/21/2007, -0/+37Hoping they would rename ban hammer to gravity hammer.
- diggrim, on 11/21/2007, -2/+38based on your understanding of IPs you must be a judge
- tymme, on 11/21/2007, -6/+41Bad corporation, trying to prevent piracy! *slaps Microsoft with newspaper* Of course it's their fault.
- Pake, on 11/21/2007, -2/+35What song you singing?

The Service may only be accessed with an original Xbox, an Xbox 360 console, a personal computer or by logging into your account via Xbox.com. You agree that you are using authorized software and hardware to access the Service, and that your software and hardware have not been modified in any unauthorized way (e.g., authorized repairs, upgrades and downloads). Any attempt to disassemble, decompile, create derivative works of, reverse engineer, modify, further sublicense, distribute, or use for other purposes either the hardware or software associated with an original Xbox or Xbox 360 console or the Service, is strictly prohibited and may result in cancellation of your account and/or your ability to access the Service, and the pursuit of other legal remedies by Microsoft. Microsoft may take any legal action it deems appropriate against users who violate Microsoft's systems or network security or this contract or any additional terms as described in Section 2 above, and such users may also incur criminal and/or civil liability.
Microsoft reserves complete and sole discretion with respect to the operation of the Service. Microsoft may, among other things: (a) restrict or limit access to the Service; (b) retrieve information from the original Xbox, Xbox 360 console, personal computer and any connected peripheral device used to log onto the Service as necessary to operate and protect the security of the Service, and to enforce this Agreement; and (c) upgrade, modify, withdraw, suspend, or discontinue any functionality or feature of the Service or any game from time to time without notice, which may involve the automatic download of related software directly to your original Xbox, Xbox 360 console or personal computer, and which software may prevent you from accessing the Service, playing pirated games, or using unauthorized peripheral devices. - schnikies79, on 11/21/2007, -4/+30They can. If you don't use Live you can do whatever you want.
You use THEIR service, you play by THEIR rules. Don't like it? Don't use it. - Ouze, on 11/21/2007, -8/+32i know this bends the very fabric of believability, but i flashed my 360 a few days ago specifically because it scratched 2 discs (Gears and GH2, the scratches are all circular). Maybe instead of doing this, they should remove the desire for doing so - sell replacement discs cheaply when you mail in the original. I looked into getting a replacement GH2 disc, and it's $25 - that's ***** for a year old game. $5 should be it.
I believe at this point playing the backups i downloaded is not only fair use but the only sane solution. - Farik, on 11/21/2007, -1/+25I remember the days of high school where I pirated everything, now that I've got a half decent job I don't mind shelling out the cash for 360 or PC games.
- inactive, on 11/21/2007, -7/+30Correction, my good sir: ***** you.
- dethsesh, on 11/21/2007, -2/+24maybe because one is an instance where a company is stoping people from stealing software, and the other is just some jackass company that wants to force people to use at&t
- BagginsBoy, on 11/21/2007, -0/+21That's extremely low if you sell your banned xbox on ebay - considering most of the time the seller doesn't state that it is banned.
Let's hope you aren't a jackass. - EvilCan, on 02/26/2008, -42/+61More like "I'm too cheap for this hobby so I'll just steal all my games." Enjoy your bans guys.
- leftler, on 11/21/2007, -3/+22... and I think you need to pull your head out of your ass, at MOST 1% of all modded boxes are used for "ligit" reasons. You know it, I know it, and all of the sites that post software and hide behind that claim know it.
- GeneralFailure0, on 11/21/2007, -1/+20There is, and you named it. Unfortunately you get what you pay for.
- Stunn, on 11/21/2007, -14/+33There needs to be a service like XboxConnect that allows Xbox 360 games to be played online without Microsoft's severs. I don't give a damn about being banned and not being able to play with random people, I just want to play with my real friends in different cities.
This is going to be a temporary setback anyway. - Stunn, on 11/21/2007, -1/+19Firefox and AdBlock are your friends.
- truhye, on 11/21/2007, -3/+21banning the IP would be funny if they didn't have a static IP
- Trax91, on 11/21/2007, -0/+18I'm guessing you are going to ebay your banned console and buy a new one.
- lukas88, on 11/21/2007, -4/+21How long now till someone starts an independent xbox 360 network?
- banmaster, on 11/21/2007, -2/+18Um, YES, they CAN do that! Read your terms of service?
Theres nothing to stop you copying your games, but MS have no obligation to let you play them! - duccodude, on 11/21/2007, -2/+18My humps
- whyufail, on 11/21/2007, -0/+15Or the hammer of dawn
- Whaines, on 11/21/2007, -2/+17You obviously have no idea what you're talking about. Do you have any idea how much more work it would be to have to press a different DVD per copy due to that minor code change?
- HolyChimp, on 11/21/2007, -1/+15You should refund the money you've saved playing 'backup' games.
- Gogogo111, on 11/21/2007, -1/+15***** pay for the games. These people work 2-3 years on this, and you can't pay them?
- Psythik, on 11/21/2007, -3/+16Damnit, I new that having a modded 360 DVD drive undetectable to MS sounded too good to be true.
I'm sure as hell glad I decided not to flash mine... - jon02129, on 11/21/2007, -11/+24Ditto. So far I'm good, though. Been playing on Live for the past few hours.
*unplugs ethernet cable* - adambadam, on 11/21/2007, -4/+17Uh, they are not paying for the games... Means prices go up for people who actually buy them to compensate for losses.
- Whaines, on 11/21/2007, -1/+13Neither could he...
- huntfrad1, on 11/21/2007, -2/+13I got banned and I never modded my system. I purchased it brand new like 3 or 4 months ago. When I called MS I got some indian guy telling me my system was modded, when I explained that I never modded it he told me there was nothing he can do. When I asked to be transferred to someone who could help me, he told me there was no one. I wrote an email to MS telling them they can check the system to see if it's been tampered with. They wrote me back telling me to call the same number I originally called. This has to be the worst customer service I've ever experienced ever. Is anyone else experiencing a similar problem?
- inactive, on 11/21/2007, -2/+13You're not Darth Vader you can't do that!
- jon02129, on 11/21/2007, -2/+13Already done. Tunneling-type setup. Google it.
- twixt01, on 11/21/2007, -0/+11i killed mine last week trying to solder in the 79passkey :( so i didnt get banned, i just killed the console.
- Gogogo111, on 11/21/2007, -2/+13lol x-link. Are you seriously considering that? Hahahahahhahahaha.
- wautrey, on 11/21/2007, -1/+12It's not illegal you *****. He's making it clear that by use of the service, that you, the consumer, agree to abide by their rules to access the service only with approved hardware/software, unmodified and in their approved versions. Hence, crying about your modified firmware version XBox not being able to connect is nothing noteworthy.
It's morons like you that never read their Terms of Service agreements...cause a whole lotta fuss over absolutely nothing. - smurf22, on 11/21/2007, -14/+24It's not like xbox hacking is rampant. Its pretty hard to rip and copy your games.

hammertime. - HigheR, on 11/21/2007, -9/+19serves you people right - support the developers!
Have been some great games released for the 360 this year - Mockylock, on 11/21/2007, -0/+10"*UPDATE*
It appears that modified fw is NOT being detected, and is instead once again due to 'bad' discs. Keep in mind that the only full proof way to make a 1:1 backup is to do it yourself. iXtreme is as fullproof as it can be, in that it validates everything it possibly can from a firmware point of view, but a game can have slight data change somewhere, most commonly in DMI. Or it can be due to early copies being watermarked so to speak."
So, if you plan on playing on XBox Live, make sure it's a legitimate copy. I copied disks in the past, but bought games that I wanted to play on Xbox live, and was never banned. -
