- oldtimegamer, on 10/11/2007, -5/+78How about giving credit to Bungie?
- doodirock2, on 10/11/2007, -4/+33My beta actually blew me. So I will totally wait in line for the release
- doodirock2, on 10/11/2007, -6/+33I wish I could say Im shocked.
- rrasco, on 10/11/2007, -8/+34Bungie is the ***** man, I dont care what anyone says. Halo 2 shattered sales records with what like a million copies sold on the midnight release? thats $50 million dollars, take that box office 'weekend' sales. Halo 3 is up to what, 4 million pre-orders? umm...lets see $60 * 4,000,000 = $240 Million dollars....can you say pwnt?
Not even touching on the fact that as much ***** as Halo gets, it was the game with the longest running streak and most unique gamers on Live, Halo 3 is going to put that streak to shame. - aggies11, on 10/11/2007, -14/+39The Halo franchise is the "madden" of the console FPS community. It's certainly not the best, there are many better, but it hits the broad segment and hits it hard. "Pokemon doesn't count" because of it's mainstream appeal, but it's actual a similar phenomenon with Halo, just replace kids with teens and college students.
Half-life 1 & 2 were/are fantastic games, miles beyond Halo, but will never generate near the hype and interest.
Halo isn't the exception of the Pokemons, the Maddens, Sims, etc, it's just another flavour aimed at a different target.
Just because it's popular, doesn't mean it's necessarily "the best" (or even close). Highschool should have taught us all that by now ;)
Aggies - Shaggy3, on 10/11/2007, -20/+38Pokemon doesn't count?
Lame comment .. No digg - doodirock2, on 10/11/2007, -8/+26I believe they call them jokes.
- estvir, on 10/11/2007, -9/+24You forgot your sarcasm tag.
Or at least I damn well hope you did because if you were being serious may the gaming gods have mercy upon your withering soul. - RoadDoggFL, on 10/11/2007, -5/+19"Right now, there ’s no other game with the potential to outsell Bungie’s epic conclusion to their trilogy (Pokemon doesn’t count)."
Uhh... looking at sales for GTA games since 3 and considering GTA IV will be released this year on both PS3 and Xbox 360, I'd say it has the potential to outsell Halo 3. Don't get me wrong, I'm the biggest Halo fanboy ever, and I'll argue all day about which series I think it better, but sales? Vice City by itself on PS2 has sold more copies than Halo and Halo 2 combined so... - Akaji, on 10/11/2007, -5/+17techpow:
Please die for trying to pimp your site on Digg. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -5/+16WOW a Analyst predicts halo will make lots of money..........STOP THE PRESSES.
wait, don't. NO ***** SHERLOCK. - Akaji, on 10/11/2007, -4/+13I try to avoid hammers, nails, and boards. I tend to hurt people with them.
- LavosPhoenix, on 10/11/2007, -16/+25Um... Pokemon DOES count. I'm not going to have you ignore a great game because you are too fixated on the same old FPS ***** that's been given to us for the past 10 year. Oh, and before you start calling Pokemon the same game, try learning something about the metagame of Pokemon first. RBY, GSC, RSE, and now DP are all different in their strategies, especially with the introduction of DP, as it has the reassigning of move to specified attack or special bases, whereas in the previous games they used attack or special based on what type the move was. Seriously, LEARN TO ENGLISH, STOP ALL THE DOWNLOADIN' AND NEVER INSULT Pokemon again just because you are some ignorant *****. Remember, just because you mod somebody down on digg just because it makes you feel like a big boy and/or gives you an erection doesn't change the truth of things. Halo 3 is just another rehashed ***** FPS.
- djSyndrome, on 10/11/2007, -2/+11Um, even if the three million number was accurate, very few of these pre-orders are paid in full. Most are $5 deposits, or in the case of online sales, no deposit at all. Three million x 5 bucks = $15 million.
Still a good chunk of change to be earning interest on, but nowhere near the 180 million you're suggesting. - grumpyrain, on 10/11/2007, -3/+11Why doesn't Pokemon count?
- erfonh, on 10/11/2007, -2/+10I hope Halo 3 is more like Halo 1. It is just me? I liked Halo 1 more than Halo 2. If Halo 1 had xbox live, I'd probably still be playing it every day.
Halo 2 was more of a frag-fest -everbody just runs around shooting. I thought Halo 1 was more like Golden Eye -it required more accuracy. - grumpyrain, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9Whoever buried me, that is a serious question. Have the balls to answer. I do not question that the Halo series has been a success (although I know the ending for Halo 2 has its share of critics), and I do not doubt that Halo 3 will be awesome, but you can't discount another game in a comparison because it is inconvenient. I would much rather Halo 3 than Pokemon myself.
I mean, the Microsoft Zune is the most successful MP3 player ever (iPod doesn't count). Seriously, you can't make comparisons like that. - Snoods, on 10/11/2007, -2/+8Yea, true ***** play that PS-Triple! Baaaaaalllllllin!!!!!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=25LceCPO1ys - CarzorStelatis, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7Europe is a continent, not a country. Other than that, I agree with you.
- chocolatetacos, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Halo 1 had a far better single player campaign, but Bungie did a great job with Halo 2 multiplayer, if played with the right settings. Halo 1 multiplayer was very one-dimensional and pistol-centric, while Halo 2 was all about options, and being in the right position with your weapon, or having the right weapon for the situation, especially if you play with Battle Rifle start. If Halo 3 can build on that, and recreate the kind of storyline Halo 1 had, Halo 3 will live up to its expectations, if the graphics can come close to Gears of War before release. Bungie makes good balancing decisions, IMO.
- slicedoranges, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7How come no one talks about Counter-Strike? About 5 times more people play it than Halo. (Not to be a jerk or anything, I love both games, but where's the love?)
- Hipple, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7That's strange that you noticed that. I noticed the exact opposite with both the auto-aim and melee. The auto-aim is definitely weaker than it was in Halo 2, and the melee doesn't seem as easy. Those are improvements are far as I'm concerned, but I guess I could be wrong about them.
- spidoman, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Because most teenagers and 20 somethings think that Pokemon is for little kids. Despite the fact that the gameplay is just as good as Halo, (allbeit completely different of course.)
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -7/+12"$240 Million dollars....can you say pwnt?"
Can you say $4 billion in the red from Xbox and $1.5 billion in the red from Xbox 360? In contrast to how much the Xbox division has cost Microsoft, $240 million would barely scratch the Titatnic-proportions iceberg of money that the Xbox has hemorrhaged from MS.
So yes, pwnt! - Nati2atl06, on 10/11/2007, -3/+8Nothing urks me more than read a bunch of stupid *****.
1) Gears Of War is a 3rd person shooter....Halo 1-3 is 1st person shooter
2) The whole argument of Halo 3 needs to have Gears Of War graphics is just stupid as hell. These are two different games with two different styles. I don't want to play a game that looks the same as everything else.
3) Judging Halo 3 graphics based on a MULTIPLAYER BETA are just dumb as hell. Wait till you get the Single player game before saying such bull. I'm not saying that its going to blow you away to mars but it wont be a playable ***** stain like some of you are trying to make it out to be.
4) Why in the hell wouldn't Pokemon not count? They're both video games and the topic was about the most being sold. I never played Pokemon because its not my type of game but I do know that its a force to be reckoned with in sells. Pokemon would make Halo its bitch.
5)chubbybubba , you said Gears a better game because Folks jump around???? That comment right there shows you know nothing about FPS and its just not you type of game...hint: that's why you like Gears. Don't make it seem that Halo is a bad game because of it. ***** fool.
I love Halo but I blame bungie for halo not being what it could have been. I like that story of Halo more than the multiplayer. If Bungie included all the story from the novels into the video game. There would finally be a game out there that would ***** on Half life series IMO. Instead too many things are added and subtracted...basically dumbing the damn game down beyond belief.
Sorry for the rant...I'm at work and I got 5 more hours - dmobley, on 10/11/2007, -6/+11Well, I've never heard of the site that this story came from, but with an idiotic article like that, I know I'm not going back.
Pokemon counts. Everything counts. Madden will count, and it'll sell 4+ million. It'll probably sell 5-6 million like ever other Madden game has for the past whoeverknows how many years. (it sold 2.7 million last year just on the PS2, and considering EA blasts it on every single gaming format, even mobile phones, 4 mil would be a disappointing year)
GTA games sold REALLY well. There's no logic that says GTA4 can't sell 5 million copies, maybe more.
There are also these mysterious countries like "Japan" and "Europe" that aren't necessarily stuck in nothing but FPS world as well. Final Fantasy games in Japan routinely sell 5 million+. There's going to be a new Final Fantasy in Japan for PS3 that could sell tons and tons of copies (as well as consoles, which is something that Halo 3 won't be doing). Unfortunately the Final Fantasy game won't show up in the US this calendar year, but it'll probably hit before the end of the fiscal year and still "count" on 2007's games. (FF7 pushed more Playstation sales than any other game had before, when the Playstation was still relatively new, so the same effect could very well happen for the PS3 finally whenever the new FF game ships).
Then there's also the idea that the soccer football games around the world can even outsell halo 3. Top game in the UK in 2006? FIFA 07, which is obviously the Madden of the UK and Europe in general. Winning Eleven/Pro Evolution soccer tends to be the top Japanese seller, but that's also getting around a lot everywhere else since it's an even better game than the EA game usually. (hooray for competition, wish we had it in the US...)
So, the article to me says that the person has no idea what's going on outside of their own backyard. Halo 3 may be a very good game that will sell a lot of copies, but there's no guarantee that it'll be the #1 game even in the US, much less worldwide. - baddog121390, on 10/11/2007, -4/+8@mistersam
"The reason why half life 2 didnt generate as much hype/sales as the halo series is for one series. It isn't as good."
Are you kidding me? Halo shouldnt even be mentioned in the same sentence as Half-Life. You're delusional if you think that Halo is anywhere near as good as HL. Try playing Half Life 2 sometime, perferably not the xbox version. - TehSwat, on 10/11/2007, -4/+8Can't wait for midnight release, was really fun for H2.
On topic, Microsoft really hit the jackpot with this trilogy. - YouRookies, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6Damn straight. Halo is only popular in America. Starcraft owns the world.
- Akaji, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5A couple of new maps...
plus about 12-15 more new maps, a few new weapons, updated physics, updated graphics, updated matchmaking, continuation of the storyline, serious tweaking of most game aspects, and a great combination of the strengths of Halo 1 and 2. But yeah, if you exclude all that, you're right on the money. - myt29, on 10/11/2007, -9/+13"Right now, there ’s no other game with the potential to outsell Bungie’s epic conclusion to their trilogy."
I'll vote for Starcraft 2. - Whaines, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5I agree with Hipple, the auto aim and melee have been toned down. Most people have found this to be true as well.
- spidoman, on 10/11/2007, -3/+7I love Halo, and I love Half-Life 2. And I can honestly say that Half-Life 2 is a much more advanced game. Halo games are fun for short periods of time, but get boring quickly. The story keeps the game going, when I play SP I put up with repetitive gameplay just to get to the story elements, a testament to Halo for having fantastic stories. When I play HL2 it's because it's insanely fun, the gameplay is addicting, and the story is enthralling enough (although I forget about it at times.)
Halo 2 = Summer blockbuster that you'll buy the DVD for, just to watch that one action scene over.
Half-Life 2 = Lord of the Rings. So awesome that you're willing to buy the extended edition and sit down for four hours to watch one movie.
both serve their purpose but Half-Life 2 is in a whole different league in terms of production values. - kinseyincanada, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6@hyperjack , well im guessing halo might just turn into an only online multiplayer game, like tribes, UT, etc.... this way they can still get truckloads of sales for years to come. it might just be the end of the story but it is not the end of the halo franchise. plus there is halo wars if that turns out to be good theres another frachise.
- trubbleshute, on 10/11/2007, -5/+9SC2 will shatter some world-wide records.
I think Halo 3 is a waste of the 360. That machine can pump out some beautiful imagery, but Halo3 moves so fast I can hardly tell if it's that much better than Halo2. - HappyScrappy, on 10/11/2007, -6/+10Pokemon will outsell Halo 3 handily.
But note it only hurts when you read this if you're so blindly fanboy that you care if others buy the same games as you.
I could give a rip about either. - Alphabet, on 10/11/2007, -3/+7I'll be trolling, so that means I'll be the board hitting the nail into the hammer.
- oldtimegamer, on 10/11/2007, -5/+8It may not be easy, but with the fact that Halo's success has only grown over the years I dont think H3 will be any different.
- LogicBomB, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5I'm really not sure why everyone has to say Halo is either the best or worst all the time.
As a previous PC-FPS player I can say that Halo wouldn't get the time of day with the PC croud - and for good reason. The PC has lots of very in-depth single player FPS's and even games with terrible multiplayer get's modded to be some of the most fun out there (Quake2, Half life, etc..).
Now, that being said - I was addicted to Halo and Halo2 on the xbox. I'm addicted to the Halo 3 beta and I'll be addicted to Halo 3 on the 360 when it's fully released. It's very simply a great console game and a great community experience online. It's not overly complicated, what it does it does well, plenty of game types to keep it interesting and a universal friends list with voice chat natively supported is amazing.
Just keep in mind that PC users hate it because it's miles behind what they consider to be the bare minimum expected in an FPS. There is no user created content, the graphics are lacking, the controls are difficult with a controller and it reaks of "average". But for people who enjoy sitting in front of the tv with their feet up for a few hours playing with their friends, it's an AMAZING experience. It's unprecidented on a console but years behind for the PC. That's why there is this disconnect between the two crowds. I love the game, but I totally understand why PC users don't get it. - bleaknik, on 10/11/2007, -6/+9@Lavos, you're coming off as flame bait. As awesome as Pokemon is [and as right as you are], let's leave the Halo fan boys play their game. ;)
*ducks* - Juntistik, on 10/11/2007, -7/+10To all the people that think the halo franchise sucks are wrong, It may not be the game for you but millions of people play it and still play it online. If it was such a bad game it wouldn't sell as well as it does (with the exceptions of LP's in which just sell well for a while and decline), just because you don't like a gameplay style doesn't mean it sucks. I don't like gears of war gameplay, but that doesn't cause me to go around saying "THIS GAME IS LAME. FPS/Third person belongs to pc" because its a good game. I just don't like it. Let people be happy with their game and get on with it. ***** games don't cause sales to grow. Comparing Half life to halo is retarded. you're comparing a PC game to Console. Yes it was ported but it was built mainly for PC. Halo is mainly a console based game. Thats why halo doesn't make PC sales records.

I know I'm a fanboy, why the hell do you think I'm writing this comment on digg? - h4rdcor3, on 10/11/2007, -6/+9Starcraft is a ways off yet bud.
- zabaf, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3The Career mode has never really been what sold halo. Co-op is fun I will admit, but the thing that makes Halo ( and GOW in my opinion ) is the online play. Which you wont get with a rental. And I estimate 60% people will stop playing Halo 2 Online in favour of 3

Fight the blog spam - TheGrizah, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Eh, story wise all games with a story really need to start improving and bad. The writing in games is still one of the worst things about the medium. Very few companies seem to put much thought/money into their writing departments. Most ideas for games are still coming from the wrong people I think. If some companies hired on some actual writers and had them lay out the story/dialog and built a game around that...I bet games would start to get a lot more interesting.
- Dgrimes, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3There's really no way they could mess up Halo 3. It's an existing formula, and is really just more of the same.
- oldtimegamer, on 10/11/2007, -5/+8and you're on digg saying that? Unplug your computer and jump off a cliff. Captain obvious can fly.
- nreynolds, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4Halo 3 isn't the style of game that takes full potential of the 360's graphical capabilities. I'll admit, some of the textures (pellican on Valhalla) are *****, but just watch a really good grenade explotion, they look ***** awesome.
- jake8689, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4what the are talking about, is the hammer my money and the board halo or is halo the hammer and aim hitting you with the board.
- Dp462090, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Because it makes Microsoft (and the 360, in turn) look better. I really never understood all of hype around the Halo games, they're fun, but nothing spectacular. Myself, I'd rather play GoldenEye 007, Half-Life (1 or 2), the Battlefield series, etc. when I feel like playing a FPS.

What is Digg?
