- PimpMoneyRich, on 10/10/2007, -12/+48One of my friends bought his LE from wal-mart along with 4 of his friends . They got home to find that all of their discs had huge gouges in them, none of which would play. They went back to Wal-Mart to exchange them and when they took four more games out, they opened them to find yet again 4 more discs with significant scratches on them. They proceeded to dig through Wal-Mart's entire stock of games, none of which were without scratches. I can't believe MS would let something like this happen. They only thing that is going to save them here is the fact that it was only the Limited Edition and not the Legendary, then they would've had to deal with crazy fanboy violence.
- Bartboy919, on 10/10/2007, -7/+30Yup, because Microsoft makes the plastic nubs in video game cases.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -16/+38My friend also said that Microsoft is the devil.
Where are my Diggs? - TannerC, on 10/10/2007, -2/+23Did I give you permission to bitch, soldier?
- stutimandal, on 10/10/2007, -12/+33Apple would charge $5 re-stocking fees for handling a return. Go microsoft!
- manifestdata, on 10/10/2007, -9/+25So the store sat there and watched your friends open every single copy of halo 3 ($69.99 each). In a place where no one can see your face, you think people would be able to lie better.
- Tserk, on 10/10/2007, -2/+13I bought the regular version because of this, and I'm guessing a lot of other people did too.
- Cyber_Akuma, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12Me and a friend were at the GameStop release, we both got the limited edition and he remembered the scratching story, claimed he was going to open it then and there.
I thought the whole scratching thing was blown out of preportion (especially since it originated on a PS3 site) but when he opened his copy both disks had noticable deep scratches. I opened mine and they were WORSE!
At first I wasnt sure if I should bother to go back, I mean, if both of ours were scratched then chances are all of them were too, and if ths problem was this big MS might just offer some type of replacement (hopefully the whole case with better spindels) but he went so I decided to try my luck.
By luck, both the second copies we were given had both disks still on their spindels, perfect condition...... I was careful driving home with that package that day.
But its nice to see MS responding so quickly to this, hasent even been 24 hours. - DrThunder, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10They sell you a bad product right out to the box and you think it is awesome they are replacing it??? You must have pretty low expectation. There is this little thing called the Better Business Bureau that stops companies from selling defective product. I bet if you called 3D realm and threaten to go to the BBB they would change their tune real fast.
- scabbers, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9Depending on your country, you're entitled to a replacement of faulty goods regardless of Microsofts "kindness" and "terms and conditions".
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10Let's hope it's not a $1.5B problem, hahahaha
- ydt89, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9I think he means that as they exchanged the 4 copies over and over they were digging through walmarts stock..
- Gutfred, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8are you not sure what a scratch on a disc looks like?
- niceyuk, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Its pretty obvious an optical disk in a metal case is going to scratch if its not secured properly. Some of my music CDs and snowboarding DVDs are packaged in metal cases, all of them had the CD wrapped in foam or cardboard to prevent scratching.
- FutureGuy, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8Brought one yesterday night, went home opened it, no scratches, awesome game, me happy.
- Chetopuffs, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9he's right
- willgonz, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8What $20 bucks. Screw that. Put your garbage together better. Any scratched junk will be taken back to the retailer. Fix your Windows Update garbage too.
- nakile, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7How the hell did Microsoft let this slip by in the first place anyway? Do they even test anything anymore?
At least they responded quickly to the problem. - MrFisty, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7He called in with "Halo sickness"
- NonLeftistDiggr, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9MICROSOFT - TEST YOUR ****ING PRODUCTS WITH SOME CONVICTION
Already wondering if I'm going to be one out of three whose Xbox goes belly up. How the hell does a poor cooling design get past design simulation test, let alone real test? Freaking thing scratches my games too, slowly, but surely!! - colklink, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6I bought mine at Best Buy this afternoon and found out it was scratched when I got home. I took it back to the store where they had a special customer service line for scratched Halo 3 LE exchanges. The guy returned my scratched copy and then starting opening new ones until he found one that wasn't scratched and then sold me that one. Fortunately, it only took 3 tries to find an unscratched one....the guy in front of me went through 6!
All in all I was pretty surprised that Best Buy was returning them in the store. I wonder if all of them did, or just mine. I figured I was going to have to argue with someone and then probably still be stuck with the scratched disk, but was pleasantly surprised at how they handled everything.
As to the whole thing being blown out of proportion - there were literally BOXES of returned or inspected LE's stacked behind the customer service counter waiting to be sent back to MS. Wow. - mavranos, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8Cheapo edition FTW!
All that extra vid content is probably on the web by now anyway. - Dafreakzo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5My cousin recently purchased a Xbox 360 premium system with a few games. The 360 scratched the games. They are unplayable now. She bought the system brand new and has the three year warranty. Microsoft is sending her a package in the mail to return the system for repairs. They REFUSE to compensate her for the damaged games and are asking her to pay $20 for each damaged game if she wants them replaced.
What a bad warranty - bocaJWho, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Wait, you can't believe MS would let something like this happen? Have you been turning a blind eye to all the red ring of death stories?
- nickj6282, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Marines never refer to themselves or their fellow Marines as "soldier".
Did I give you permission to bitch, Marine? - merwin, on 10/10/2007, -5/+10U got burried for telling him that u burried him (and for not knowing how to spell)
- bagelpirate, on 10/10/2007, -3/+8Where the hell is the quality control dude?
- cavie2002, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4some guy in front of me got one and the tin box was dented
- Nicksname1, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6*****!!! I got my LE at lunch. Mines in the car. Why the hell did I pay the extra $10 for a tin case and some ***** art work. I am going to kick Bill Gates in the Nads if its scratched.
- DarkShroud, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Just like they made they did not make the drives that were grinding into the games or the console that bakes its self. MS might night make the these things themselves, but they choose to use them for various reasons.
- DarkShroud, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3When his security are having their way with you please yell out "Don't tase me bro!" and get a copy of the security footage.
- MWeather, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Titanic won more Oscars than any movie ever. That doesn't make it a good movie.
- bigthecat, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Hmm, where are the people who were calling Neogaf pro-Sony and how this was fake since no company could screw up a DVD case?
- pseudo.hero, on 10/10/2007, -4/+7Haven't heard that one a million times on here.
- DiggzDE, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Timed out and didn't let me finish: I think you are mistaking the Legendary edition with the Legendary difficulty setting.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3nice way to get at apple there wiseman
- Nobi-Wan, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Wal-mart would probably not have to return multiple copies from angry customers so, yeah, they might as well open several copies to see if it was a whole batch that went bad. They could just send back the order they got and avoid all the angry preteens and soccer moms.
- vypergts, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4I picked up the LE at Circuit City today at lunch. I did the shake and bake thing on the first few on the rack and was certain that none of them were loose in the box. Got to the car and the sound had changed. I figure the discs popped off the nub when the cashier put the bag on the counter while the receipt printed. They weren't scratched up but they were a little messy from the foam padding beneath. Works fine but seriously, caveat emptor.
- inactive, on 02/25/2009, -2/+4you all got burried. happy now eh?
- suppah, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2i hope my legendary doesn't suffer the same problem :|
- metalwolf, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Better yet, flash or SD cards. then the $60 may be worth it.
- MWeather, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I'm also entitled to fair use, but that hasn't stopped anyone from DRMing the hell out of all their media.
- MWeather, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2have or need.
- Chetopuffs, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3I believe the word of the day is facetious!
- MWeather, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2"I can't believe MS would let something like this happen."
Then you haven't been paying attention. - graemee, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3My buddy got one, scratched as well. MS should compensate them for the shoddy case design with some extra on live or some live points, IMO.
I'm still waiting for my Elite to ship from Dell.ca. I ordered it a week ago, currently shows an Oct 5th shipping date. Apparently the sale, free copy of Halo3 was too popular. - Shrubber, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Yes. Yes, I did. And a written apology signed by Bill Gates would have been nice too.
- milhouse007, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I just bought the LE version at best buy, and they offered to open the case and to check the scratches and they'd give me a different copy if I wanted.
Mine had small just very scratches so I just took that copy. - louiedog, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Exactly. As long as the game plays fine just finish it, play mulitplayer, and then in November when Mass Effect is released you should be able to find 2 weeks to not play Halo.
- YossarianDent, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4Except they're replacing Halo 3 discs for free until the end of the year...nice try, though.
