its honestly amazing how some people in the game still dont understand the concept of team work though. i dont know how many times i come across players on my team who think its wise to split up. they think they are going to take on all the hordes alone and leave their team mates high and dry. you know who this person is because you can see their red outline being attacked from a mile away all alone. learn to play with the team, its the only way to win! - resolva, on 12/03/2008, -1/+49Now this looks like a real game!

Oddly, while some berate it for being the least scary in the series, Resident Evil 4 scared the ***** outta me more times than I can count. I loved how dynamic and unpredictable it was, as opposed to the cheap scare tactics of the previous games in the series. - BGog, on 12/03/2008, -0/+15It is.. It is awesome. - billricardi, on 12/03/2008, -2/+15There are a dozen huge positives in L4D, a handful of minor gripes that I won't even mention here, and a single, massive failure on the part of the development team that I'll get into later.
The game is incredibly immersive. You really do feel like the world is ending, and that getting your ass to the final objective is one glimmering hope in an otherwise doomed world. Frightening? At times yes, but at most other times... tense is the right word.
Though there aren't a ton of traditional weapons, each has a role. Forgive the lack of realism for infinite pistol ammo, you'll come to realize that it really is necessary when you've played the game a while. The non traditional weapons are, in a word, awesome. Use them to blow stuff up, set stuff on fire, and even bash things real good!
The bad guys... well the mooks are 'fast zombies', which should send a shiver up the back of any zombie movie fan. The specialists all have a role to make you very dead. It wasn't mentioned in the review, but you can't play as the witch, she'll never be your random zombie assignment. Just too damned deadly. Yes, you'll get assigned as the Tank every so often, however.
Now, the one big gripe: Finding a decent network game is a true bitch. You don't see ping meters until AFTER you've joined a game. Then the real horror: A slow load time that can mean only one thing: lag. And then you see all of these people with crap ping times skipping around randomly, and you're probably one of them.
They NEED to fix the lobby system so that you can join games that you'll have a good experience with. More information up front, and better game searching. Clearly they had console gaming on a closed gaming network in mind when they made the lobby system, but on the PC you simply need more.
Honestly, other than that, this game is a damned close runner for Game of the Year. Fallout edges it out in my book, but for someone with slightly different tastes, this would certainly contend with the other major releases so far. - PiggtailGirl, on 12/03/2008, -0/+13Agreed

- Nealobus, on 12/03/2008, -0/+9There are so many 'oh *****, oh *****, oh shiiiiiit' moments in this game that I can't stop talking about it to friends, family and complete strangers. Simply insane fun.
The review is absolutely right though, you can't expect to play this thing offline and have the same experience. If you want that kind of game, pick up Dead Space or wait for RE5 in March.
