- inactive, on 06/13/2009, -12/+100Kotaku are full of *****, driven by the need for page impressions.
I wonder how much they paid for this non story to get on here. - EvanGH, on 06/13/2009, -3/+68NEW PLAYSTATION 7 THIS YEAR? MISINFORMATION WITHIN!
CLICK TO GIVE US MONEY - Baskinghobo, on 06/13/2009, -3/+64I think i'll stick with my xbox 360 whether this rumour is true or not
- Recluse84, on 06/13/2009, -2/+62It'll be a new Xbox the same way the Xbox 360 Arcade was a new Xbox. Same damn thing, bundled with a Natal and with a flashy sub-label to get grandmothers to buy it because they dont need to use their old fingers to press buttons.
- inactive, on 06/13/2009, -4/+32it would be prety hard for it to be worse than 360 in terms of build quality.
The could make it out of Christmas tress, petrol and young offenders and it would still be cooler than a 360. - Tiptup300, on 06/13/2009, -1/+24There won't be a new 360. It will just be a new bundle. Seriously Kotaku, need pageviews much?
- prime9891, on 06/13/2009, -1/+24It just doesn't feel like enough time has passed. I don't feel that the technology has advanced enough to warrant the release of a new console.
Perhaps a slimmer 360 with a larger hdd bundled with natal. - AlanCayce, on 06/13/2009, -8/+26I would spend the money simply for a slim compact version of the 360 with the same specs.
- noahgelman, on 06/13/2009, -0/+16This isn't a story, its random speculation to get page hits. Buried.
- inactive, on 06/13/2009, -8/+22Oh great. A slightly faster Xbox. That'll be worth the money. If it's slightly better maybe they should call it Xbox 400. Implying a whole full rotation of awesomeness contradicts the fact that it's a slight upgrade.
- Sornos, on 06/13/2009, -2/+14It's the same console, just with Natal packed in. It's no different from the launch of the Elite or Arcade SKUs of the 360. Natal is compatible with older 360s as well. The only difference here is a possible new chip set (just like the Falcons or what have you that went under the radar with each new generation of 360s) and Natal prepacked.
- inactive, on 06/13/2009, -5/+17why?
- Talus, on 06/13/2009, -1/+12This is probably just going to amount to MS releasing a new bundle where they package a 360 with Natal and some family friendly stuff and put 'Facebook' and 'Twitter' stickers on the box. Worst case, they release a 'slim' model or a redesigned case .. but it's still a 360.
- therightclique, on 06/13/2009, -2/+134GB of ram is completely unnecessary for any game on the market today. Especially when talking about console ram which doesn't need to be as much as PC ram due to the minimal operating system and other optimizations. It has 512 now. 1GB would be nice. 2GB would be outstanding.
- XxbladesfirexX, on 06/13/2009, -3/+13I may be wrong, but I vaguely remember that Microsoft stated they had no plans for a new system until 2015.
- representDLV, on 06/13/2009, -4/+147 times? That is definitely user error or a lie.
- number11, on 06/13/2009, -1/+11Yeah, It's going to take a lot of convincing and proof that when they eventually release a new console, it's worth the money and its far more reliable than the 360 in terms of build quality
- herrshuster, on 06/13/2009, -3/+13British English, look it up
- pixelate, on 06/13/2009, -1/+111UP is the one actually full of *****. Everyone else (Joystiq, Kotaku) is just reporting the rumor fabricated out of thin air by 1UP.
But with appropriately sensationalist headlines. Naturally, Kotaku probably doesn't mind the page views. - Dealjobber, on 06/13/2009, -1/+10You can give it all the ventilation in the world and it will still RROD. I treated mine like my own son and went through 4 of them. Some will just do that on you.
- Sfenton, on 06/13/2009, -0/+7Should I report you?
- gruntbot, on 06/13/2009, -0/+7I don't think that we're going to see new consoles anytime soon- this cycle seems like it's going to have a longer lifespan than previous generations.
- x1soundgarden1x, on 06/13/2009, -1/+7They paid nothing because they are just leeching of a 1up story. RTFA.
- JamesBondQ, on 06/13/2009, -1/+7You are either a liar or an outlier.
- therightclique, on 06/13/2009, -1/+7The technology has advanced tremendously since the 360 came out. Play a new PC game and you'll see what I mean. The amount of polygons and texture resolution is much, much, much higher than the 360 can handle. I would agree that post processing techniques and other bells and whistles haven't advanced as much as the sheer amount of stuff on screen has.
- spoon088, on 06/14/2009, -0/+5I wouldn't put it past them. I mean, the Xbox1 lasted for only 4 years. Microsoft is notorious for forced obsoletion, and quite frankly can't compete with the other console makers unless they have a head start. The only reason the 360 didn't flop was because it had a head start and they pretty much spammed the idiotic meme that a console that has been out longer is doing better than the others. I think I'll save my money and wait for their next next console in 2014.
- guywithaplan, on 06/13/2009, -2/+7Throw in a built in Wi-fi and I'll buy one.
- Crashwithuhk, on 06/13/2009, -2/+7Considering at the MS Press Conference at E3 they said something alone the lines of "With Natal we don't need to launch a new console" I'd file this under *****.
- velveetaavenger, on 06/13/2009, -0/+5I've always wondered where these people that get multiple rrod are storing their consoles. I get the feeling that it's sandwiched between other things or something and getting horrible air circulation.
- SpectreFire, on 06/13/2009, -1/+6It's gonna be like how the DSi is a new Nintendo handheld.
The whole thing has to do with the high cost of creating a brand new console and how companies are now beginning to do incremental hardware changes instead of a full on new console cycle.
Now how well this will sell... well, let's say this... the DSi is selling like crazy right now. - therightclique, on 06/13/2009, -3/+8Complete horse *****?
They're still not as bad as destructoid.....writing-wise anyway. - tidu, on 06/13/2009, -3/+84GB of RAM? I don't think so. The current iteration has 512MB.
- chessthecat, on 06/13/2009, -0/+4I'd be pissed.
- Thorpe, on 06/13/2009, -1/+5Don't worry. I have ABP enabled.
- SoCalCove, on 06/13/2009, -2/+6Slim one would work, if they can use it as a chance to fix their hardware quality issues. I mean seriouslly, just get Bill to hire/steal some Sony engineers and design the darn 360 right.
- chaosblade77, on 06/14/2009, -0/+4I certainly hope so, it drives me crazy to see people talking about wanting "next gen" consoles already, when the PS3 and Wii aren't even 3 years old yet. If people want new hardware every two to three years they should stick with PC gaming.
- deaftly, on 06/13/2009, -3/+7Hey, it worked for Nintendo
- therightclique, on 06/13/2009, -2/+5Juicy V-Box Erotica 9000
- Spire3660, on 06/13/2009, -0/+3This generation of consoles is going to last significantly longer then the last. All 3 major players have full online stores and their functionality is constantly increasing. They all have the capabilities to generate revenue other then game sales. This is the first 'gen' of hardware that really fulfills that digital media hub role in full. I think any talk of new(i.e. expanded capability) hardware is premature. We'll see slimmer versions and better bundling first. I dont expect any new consoles to launch until at least 2013. MAYBE Nintendo, but I doubt it.
- SoCalCove, on 06/13/2009, -2/+5This is totally BS rumor. MS has Sony at the best possible situation with the 360 doing so well. PS3 is starting to get its act together (programmers got more experience now coding on it, and more flagship titles coming soon to it).
Microsoft would screw up royally to introduce a whole new console that gamers would then have to choose between an existing console, and a whole new platform, let alone developers that need to learn the new platform.
Now they can definately release a redesigned (slim ps2 style) 360 that can for once and for all take care of their ***** hardware quality. Now that I can see coming out soon, the current hardware is just not doing it, with continued failures. - phylum, on 06/13/2009, -1/+4sounds like "fatal"
- BooBooBaron, on 06/13/2009, -6/+9I've had RROD 7 times.
maybe its time for change in hardware for microsoft because they can't stop it - inactive, on 06/13/2009, -1/+4It's not going to be a new XBOX, so much as it is a rebranding to get the word out about the camera controls. it will play XBOX 360 games, and they will be the standard for it.
- pixelate, on 06/13/2009, -0/+3Yeah, because if the crazy bidding war for xbox360.net is any indication...
- tidu, on 06/13/2009, -1/+4This is a better way to go about this. If they just release it as a standalone, no one will buy it, and no games will be made for it. If it's somewhat forced (think Wii) then games will be made that take advantage of this function. Else we'll just have ***** games made by Microsoft devs that aren't fun at all.
- Ajajadude, on 06/13/2009, -3/+6The problem is that they can't really do much to the 360 without screwing over people who've already bought theirs. The only way they could add a BR player is if they have an external drive, a la HD-DVD.
- inactive, on 06/13/2009, -1/+4A gimmick.
With the exception of a handful of good games. As good as Zelda was, it was still horribly irritating to have to shake my hand whenever I wanted to use the sword.
Mario Galaxy and Metroid also used the controls pretty well, although I still prefer normal controllers.
The other games are pretty much party games with the same recycled mini-games (Wario Ware, Rayman, etc) - EvilFerret, on 06/14/2009, -0/+3That's a ***** stupid domain. Perhaps if it was .com somebody may offer you $10 or something, but probably not even then.
- DEIx15x8, on 06/13/2009, -2/+5Sony said something like that but Microsoft had said 2010-2012 for the next generation to begin.
- mirunit, on 06/13/2009, -1/+4I have a early 06' xbox, no RROD. Do not put the box or the power brick in a cabinet and you will be fine. Ventilation is key.
