- SEGA4life, on 08/20/2008, -17/+332In other news, Hell is sold out of Snow Plows.
Xbox also has another RPG coming out in Asia in a couple weeks, should move even more... when they get restocked that is. - pakakapa, on 08/20/2008, -14/+239both units totally sold!
- V3NOM, on 08/20/2008, -8/+214http://kotaku.com/5039194/japan-is-totally-sold-ou ...
Fix'd your link. - gamben0, on 08/20/2008, -21/+147Tard needs to quit saying after the jump. It is so ***** stupid.
- YancyFryJr, on 08/20/2008, -24/+118Oh man, The Onion is always so funny...
Wait, what? Awesome. - bigteebo, on 08/20/2008, -5/+95Key to keep sales in Japan strong:
1. Hello Kitty edition 360 console
2. Crazy games like a noodle shop simulator(which I think exists) with online co-op play
3. crazy named games like "Go Bop Happy Instigator!"
4. If no licensing for #1, an all-pink console will suffice
5. More RPGs of course.
6. XBL downloads of Anime shows.
7. 5 words: "takeshi's castle, the video game" - FujiwaraTofu, on 08/20/2008, -1/+64Wow, the amount of diggs and comments this article has prove just how many people don't bother clicking the link and just blindly digg/comment. You would think the first comment would have caught the broken link.
- dekuscrub, on 08/20/2008, -7/+66Looks like MS has finally discovered the secret ingredient in the Japanese market. RPG's.
- Erythroxylum, on 08/20/2008, -3/+58Has there a game been released recently on the 360 where you play a skinny little boy who harbours sexual feelings for a girl with big eyes, ears and a tail, and who goes on to pilot a giant biomechanical robot?
- comedianX, on 08/20/2008, -7/+55When each store only stocks one Xbox it is quite easy to sell out of them.
- MrFurious2k, on 08/20/2008, -19/+64I'm a fan of the 360, but shipping limited stock to a location and then being surprised when you run out isn't exactly news worthy. I suppose you could say its the same technique the wii used in a lot of ways (generate buzz by limiting stock and then reporting on failures to fill demand).
- navster15, on 08/20/2008, -6/+43Wait, so a console maker can sell a lot of units in a territory if it makes games that sell well there? Inconceivable!
- animenick65, on 08/20/2008, -3/+39I agree.
Stupid, idiotic things blogs say and do:
"After the jump."
"After the break."
Those stupid and childish
red speech and thought bubbles
that gizmodo uses. - DarkHornet, on 08/20/2008, -14/+49Only because of Tales of Vesperia. Don't get me wrong, I love the 360, but no one can honestly deny that the 360 only does well in Japan upon the release of a major Japanese centric title.
- minoss, on 08/20/2008, -7/+40So when is Nintendo releasing their apology for being out of stock on Wii's for the last 2 years?
- PecanHead, on 08/20/2008, -7/+38Is it harder to type "e" than it is to type an apostrophe?
- blankoboy, on 08/20/2008, -9/+38NOT TRUE. I went to the Yodobashi and Bic Camera shops in Kawasaki (by my office) and they had plenty on the shelves.
The Bic Camera location I checked out today:
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=& ... - dig1x, on 08/20/2008, -15/+42Outsold the PS3 by a significant margin.
- Spuy767, on 08/20/2008, -8/+35The headline didn't make any sense to me until I read it in a Keanu Reeves from Bill & Ted's voice.
- getoffmybridge, on 05/05/2009, -4/+29Mr. Plow, that's my name. That name again, is Mr. Plow.
- staticneuron, on 08/20/2008, -1/+24Your forgetting the high school romance games and the henti titles.
- ryuujinusa, on 08/20/2008, -7/+30I saw a rack of 360's at the store the other day, (in japan yes)
- Konrad9, on 08/20/2008, -4/+27I seriously doubt it's a shortage.
Would you overstock a region that you rarely get great sales in? - logicalnoise, on 08/20/2008, -2/+23360 has more JRPGs out now or in the upcoming lineup than PS3. Both here in the US and in Japan.
- inactive, on 08/20/2008, -3/+23Not anymore.
- HCviolence, on 08/20/2008, -1/+21Happy tentacle fun time train simulator 9.
- inactive, on 08/20/2008, -8/+27Buried to annoy ManicMyna
- dig1x, on 08/20/2008, -0/+15Blue Dragon?
- neozeed, on 08/20/2008, -3/+18Wow, who would have thought?
I remember going there right after the launch when it was impossible to get one in the USA/CANADA, and they had pallets of them!... in the basements, hidden behind the N64 gear (no kidding!).
And the sales people laughed at me when I bought my Japanese 360, but it still plays a bunch of US titles, so there! Take that!!! - jacksons98, on 08/20/2008, -27/+41According to this article about X360 sales soaring: http://digg.com/xbox/Xbox_360_sales_in_Japan_soar
Sales increased last week by 1500 units and are around 26000 units for the month, while it's good for X360 it's not great. It looks more like poor supply then overwhelming demand. Didn't MS try this "shortages" tactic in America around February as well? - notthatnoise, on 08/20/2008, -1/+15it actually outsold ps3
- estvir, on 08/20/2008, -9/+23> Didn't MS try this "shortages" tactic in America around February as well?
Didn't Sony and Nintendo do this too? They've all been suspected of it. - Klisk, on 08/20/2008, -0/+13No, not exactly. You don't sell it to them because the shortage creates a hype around the system -- If it's sold out, it must be amazing, right? The best! So everyone talks about how it's sold out, and it spreads, and then suddenly everyone is anxious about getting the system. So when the next shipment comes -- A proper shipment, it sells out for "real" due to people getting excited over the product.
Shortages now boost sales later, people aren't going to switch to a console that is readily available. Obviously, if it's available and not sold out ("Oh, people aren't buying it...") Then it must suck, right? At least in a consumer's view. - dig1x, on 08/20/2008, -4/+17A) The Xbox 360 heat issues were fixed more than a year ago.
B) If the heat issue does hit him (perhaps he has an used box?) then he gets a 100% free warranty repair.
Why would this be a problem?
Now, I was *shattered* when Sony's Rep wouldnt return my phone calls after TWO PS2s failed on me.
I have a 3rd dead PS2 in my closet, and Sony never did ******* to rectify the widespread failures the PS2 had.
There were half-a-dozen shops in my medium sized city with "Playstations Repaired Here" signs in the front window, and the same thing in the classified ads in the newspaper -- a cottage-industry popped up around repairing PS2s, it failed **a lot**.
Yet, that was before the widespread social media and the widespread popularity of the "user created" internet; and as a result, Sony's abandoning its customers never reached the masses.
My launch Xbox 360 and my Elite (upstairs/downstairs) are going 100% strong. Couldnt be happier. - Rahodeb, on 08/20/2008, -2/+15So, the tactic is that when people want to buy your console, you don't sell it to them? Thus potentially driving them to buy a different game console?
Brilliant! - freshyill, on 08/20/2008, -4/+16Over the words "Xbox 360" appearing somewhere on the Internet. That's usually all it takes.
- johanrocks, on 08/20/2008, -2/+13Yeah, the 360 is really turning out to be the console for RPG lovers, which was wildly unexpected after the original xbox. Well, good for Microsoft, they set out to get more RPGs, and they did it.
- djruden, on 08/20/2008, -3/+14Infinite Undiscovery is on the horizon as well...
- kaiozu, on 08/20/2008, -6/+17360 was sold out for 6 months after launch in the states and they were in short supply at the beginning of the year.
- deaftly, on 08/20/2008, -1/+12Tentacle Monsters and School Girls
- EvilLordBanana, on 08/20/2008, -4/+14dandonia you are so very wrong. The xbox has loads of games worth owning (in my opinion). I wanted to buy a ps3, but then I realized that there are 2 games for it that I actually want (MGS4 and FF13) and now it turns out ff13 will be comming to xbox too, so I am not going to buy a console for one game. I will definitly get one in the future, but as it stands the ps3 just isn't worth it to me. as for less features...WHAT!? XBL is waaaaaay ahead of PSN. Yes you pay for it, whooptie do, if you can afford the console itself, then 50 bucks a year is nothing, especially for the features you get with a gold subscription. the PS3 has what for advanced features that the xbox doesn't? Sure home looks cool, but not THAT cool. Also show me where you can download tv episodes and rent movies on PSN. Also, microsoft has pretty much solved the failures, not that my xbox has ever broken.
- Fallout911, on 08/20/2008, -1/+11First week?
- inactive, on 08/20/2008, -1/+11Inconceivable!
- Imashinu, on 08/20/2008, -4/+14Ya your probably right. Well with Last Remnant coming out next month the trend may continue.
- freehunter, on 08/20/2008, -5/+15I saw a rack of 36C's at the store the other day, in an American mall. Try to find them in Japan.
- HolyChimp, on 08/20/2008, -0/+9@Wesside: You don't understand what it means. It's normally at the end of the teaser that is shown on the front page of the blog, meaning you have to 'jump' into the actual story to keep reading or to see additional pictures or whatever. The reason it's so annoying on Digg is that we don't see the front page, we go straight to the article, and thus we don't need to 'jump'. A blog can be ad free and still have an 'after the jump' link.
The real question is why does it show up on the full article page and not just the teaser? - mohamedmansour, on 08/20/2008, -4/+13"Sales increased last week by 1500 units and are around 26000 units for the month, while it's good for X360 it's not great. That is perfectly fine, I don't see it wrong. Why increase supply while the demand was constant for many years? That month was kinda strange, they had many more units being sold, hence supply was short. I think MS should give a freeby out to people who wanted it this month. Maybe, free halo 3 :~ - soundsofreason, on 08/20/2008, -2/+11Just because you read this article on the Internet doesn't mean it happened either, genius.
- freshyill, on 08/20/2008, -14/+23Frankly, I'm disappointed by the levels of rabid fanboyism displayed in this thread. I was really hoping the PS3 people would put up more of a fight.
- xOKxWhy, on 08/20/2008, -4/+13They should call Mr. Plow then
