- jacksons98, on 10/01/2008, -9/+99MS fans said it was fixed with the X-clamps, then they said it was fixed with the bigger heatsink, then they said it was fixed with the Elite model, then they said fixed with the falcon chipset, then they said the Halo edition fixed it, now they are saying it's fixed with this. Until MS makes an official statement saying they have resolved the issue I wouldn't count on it being fixed.
- Colecoman1982, on 10/01/2008, -2/+70Now I want to see a guarantee that they'll be removing all the old, faulty, models from the refurbishment chain. One of the big secrets about the Xbox360, even after they started making changes to the hardware, is that should something happen to your shinny new Jasper system (even the best made hardware will have bad parts come off the line) you have no control over what kind of system they replace it with. You may send your Jasper system in for repair and get a refurbished original release model back as a replacement. All the hardware fixes in the world won't fix the problem if they aren't willing to do a complete recall (steamrolled and buried in cement like Atari ET cartridges) of the bad units.
- kuuhaku, on 10/01/2008, -7/+53Only twice????
- Awezing, on 10/01/2008, -27/+71Hey. M$, you're a few years too late. My Xbox has already broken twice.
- KrustyTClown, on 10/01/2008, -7/+44I think it will be fixed with the XBOX 720.
- SgtQuackers, on 10/01/2008, -1/+29I love how many sites have quoted Joey Gadget on Jasper Xboxs hitting stores but ti still has not been proved. Joey Gadgets links to 360drives.com which has a database that anyone can place info in. If you look at the entries for Jasper Xboxs none of them will provide any proof. So as far as i'm concerned there in no proof that there are Jasper Xboxs until someone takes a picture of the inside of the Xbox.
- napoleon45, on 10/03/2008, -4/+28I've been through four already. Last one just kicked the bucket last night :(
- inajeep, on 10/03/2008, -0/+19You know, even an 'official' statement wouldn't do it for me. I've had friends with Elites that rrod'd. So when I don't here anyone with a jasper chipset go bad for more than 6 months then I'll believe it.
- fsufanizzle, on 10/02/2008, -4/+22Quit posting this......pictures or it's not real. Honestly, I could say that the Valhalla consoles are out and it would be just a true as this.
- JasonCox, on 10/03/2008, -14/+30Comment buried because you're obviously from the 90's when it was still cool to use the dollar sign when insulting Microsoft.
- Recidivus, on 10/03/2008, -2/+17Good thing PS3 owners don't have to repeatedly get their consoles fixed.
And it took some time for them to extend the warranty to 3 years for RROD, it's not like MS wanted to shell out billions in repairs. - Kelmon, on 10/03/2008, -5/+17Buried - you don't have to be a PlayStation user to expect your console to work. Anyone buying consumer electronics today should not have to expect the device to fail. I am constantly surprised that 360 users seem to be so forgiving.
- DaDiggydiggyDOC, on 10/02/2008, -1/+13The real question is will or can MS learn from their mistakes? It's going to be even more important for their next console.
- syntheticfth, on 10/03/2008, -9/+21And you are obviously from the 00's where if you don't get your nap you get a little cranky. Here's a juice box little fella.
- inactive, on 10/03/2008, -0/+11"The PS3's problem with its blu-ray lasers where much more prevalent than RROD which was blown out of proportion by Sony fanboys and excitable bloggers"
Um, a guy who works for MS got fired for admitting 360s failure rate is ~67%
Officials for game retailers have been quoted as saying PS3s failure rate is LESS THAN 2%.
You're the only one blowing crap out of proportion. - KSUdesigner, on 10/03/2008, -1/+12Yes they were just waiting for you to buy one to fix the problem. Couldn't you have bought one sooner so the rest of us didn't have to suffer?
- cthellis, on 10/03/2008, -1/+11Correct. The Falcon design still has the original 90nm GPU, while the Jasper is the first design to shrink the GPU to 65nm, which makes for a lot less heat. Since the GPU's heat is largely to blame for all the red-ringing, it plus all the better heat-sinking SHOULD keep the 360 from sharing that same fate.
- cthellis, on 10/03/2008, -2/+12The silence you hear is the number of people thinking to themselves "what Blu-Ray problem?"
Their 360 fan would be making noise right now, but... Jasper's not out yet! - cmsjustin, on 10/03/2008, -3/+13My 360 is in for repair right now. Hope I get upgraded.
- cthellis, on 10/03/2008, -1/+11An expression of gratitude? On Digg??
WHO ARE YOU?!! - jsffive, on 10/03/2008, -4/+14I'll never buy one. My brother has bought two now for his son, and they keep breaking. The first time, it took almost a year. The second time, it took less than a month!. And quite frankly, he's gotten tired of shipping it back to Microsoft.
Microsoft releases hardware like they do software: prematurely.
Make mine a PS3. - Jeffler, on 10/03/2008, -4/+13Good job, Microsoft.
Now fix the 2nd biggest problem, DVD-ROM drives, without charging people who got those (and have machines that seemingly can not RROD) $120 to fix them. It costs $80 more to get a brand new system, why does it cost $120 for you guys to clean and readjust the lens? - SenorGeltabz, on 10/03/2008, -4/+13on 4th 360 !!!! I'll believe it when I see it, because the new one will probally brick soon anyways.
- Sirocco, on 10/03/2008, -2/+11> There are probably not many people with another console that can even say they've played 14 games
WTF? Are you new to gaming or something? - Jenadae, on 10/03/2008, -1/+9ty :)
- cthellis, on 10/03/2008, -1/+9No chance. Their repair channel is filled with old systems, and all the new ones are heading to retail, so...
Heck, if something happens to a new Jasper one, they might well get an OLDER system in return. There are no guarantees, which blows. - Scotty87, on 10/03/2008, -6/+14I can almost assure you this will not fix it
- KenSPT, on 10/03/2008, -1/+9Could have used this news 2 years ago ...
- fandyboy, on 10/03/2008, -2/+10I always have that in mind.
- inactive, on 10/03/2008, -3/+11I love $pple!!!! Oh, wait......
- 007isbond1, on 10/03/2008, -5/+13universally owned.. im still on my first one.. going on 2nd year :D
- Daniel591992, on 10/03/2008, -3/+11Wow...
You know, these things are "supposed" to work, right? - NovaPrime9, on 10/03/2008, -1/+8Jinx.
(seriously, no, I hope your luck holds out) - DirkBelig, on 10/03/2008, -1/+8I know a guy who's launch day X360 was going strong until he traded it for an Elite on the day that launched and he played it 4-6 hours per day! Ironically, his Elite just died.
I just got my 2nd replacement unit. My box bought in March 2006 died in Feb. 2007, just shy of the one-year mark, and that replacement lasted 17 months of light use (ave. 4 hrs per week use) before dying. I wish they would've put a Falcon mobo in the repaired box because my other X360 with a Falcon is so much quieter. Oh well.
Tip: Anyone needing to return their X360 should NOT ask for a "coffin", but instead ask for a pre-paid UPS shipper label that they can stick on their own box they'll provide. I waited 12 days for the box to never arrive before they offered the shipper. Losers! - Ajajadude, on 10/03/2008, -0/+7I've had my PS3 for over 2 years with moderate-to-heavy use, sometimes leaving it on for several days straight, and haven't had it die on me (knock on wood). Most PS3 owners can say the same. We wouldn't know what the level of service is like with a dead PS3...most will never have to deal with it.
- Jenadae, on 10/03/2008, -2/+9Serious question. Does jasper != falcon?
- ThomasMarshall, on 10/03/2008, -1/+8Not sure why you're getting buried. I would define a modern console with massive failure rates exponentially greater than it's competition to be a POS. As technology progresses, things are supposed to get better AND more reliable.
What would you estimate the failure rate was on a Super Nintendo? - quickcomment, on 10/03/2008, -1/+7There have been several UNCONFIRMED reports, but no evidence. No photos, no game sites doing the check, etc. No, instead there have been a lot of people posting fake finds. I WAS going to buy a 360 this week as I'd found a few with FDOU 0833 team/codes, but I'd read at least one report that these still had Falcons in them. I'm holding off on buying until I know for a fact that the model I'm buying is going to be less troublesome than past ones.
Wouldn't an 0831 production code be closer to 8-8-08 rather than 6-8-08, anyway? - Ajajadude, on 10/03/2008, -0/+6When I spend several hundred dollars on anything, I expect to have no problems whatsoever. And when I do have problems, I expect them to fix it.
Microsoft isn't doing anyone any favors in fixing the 360 for free. They're doing it because they want to avoid lawsuits and massive recalls. Why so many Xbox users are so forgiving on Digg is beyond me, too. It doesn't matter how good the games are. - homerjs, on 10/03/2008, -3/+9I'll believe it when I ...errr...don't see it
- MaynardKx, on 10/03/2008, -2/+8My xbox elite that is only a year and maybe twenty days old died last night and is sitting behind me at work in a box. ****ing Microsoft.
- cthellis, on 10/03/2008, -0/+6So instead of enjoying those games he'll enjoy... other games?
Much of the time the multi-platform titles are outpacing the exclusives anyway. (And many of those that are left hit the PC, too, which is of consideration to a lot of people.)
In the end it's all personal choice anyway, as if you're not keen on console FPSes or RPGs... well, you've cut out large swaths of the notable exclusives from the 360 _and_ PS3.
Personally, I don't feel like rewarding Microsoft for the hardware fiasco or their subscription coercion with Live for online play (I'll pay a price for premium features, not basic services), which means I'll probably end up with a 360 the same way I ended up with my Xbox and PSP... repairing someone else's cast-off. ;-) - RudeTurnip, on 10/03/2008, -2/+8I've been through 2 myself...the third one is luckily still alive.
- cthellis, on 10/03/2008, -0/+5Wait, after your second return, they gave you back one only 85% as powerful? ;-)
- JoVoCop, on 10/03/2008, -1/+6This is a Triumph.
- Electricpigdigg, on 10/03/2008, -0/+5A bit too late for this guy. Ours lasted just 1 night.
- reaper527, on 10/03/2008, -3/+8buried as inaccurate. the jasper boards may or may not be out, but there are no pics, and no confirmation. it is pure rumor. the only thing that is not rumor, is that the date on that site is wrong. jasper mobo's are rumored to be in production builds made august 6th or later, NOT june 8th.

http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=6 ... - Varz, on 10/03/2008, -2/+7They've been getting better with each new model but if these ones have 65nm GPUs than of course that's going to be a massive improvement. Smaller components consume less power and thus produce less heat.
- ScionX, on 10/03/2008, -1/+5"The newest 360s are fitted with new 'Jasper' motherboards, says a report on Joey Gadget,"
So then the description is innacurate. - SgtQuackers, on 10/03/2008, -0/+4I think so this mistake cost the 1 Billion dollars so there will probably think about that next time.
