- av4rice, on 02/01/2008, -9/+84MS didn't make the Halo series so much as it bought Bungie, which was already making the Halo series.
- InfinitySnatch, on 02/01/2008, -17/+92Buying the Legendary Edition is my second greatest shame, right after paying money to see Epic Movie.
- piratearggghhh, on 02/01/2008, -11/+78Wow all these Halo haters. Bungie gave us 2-4 player online co-op, a deeper story, better graphics, and ability record games (addressing everything we bitched about in Halo 2) while adding that to insane levels of stats tracking, near-perfect FPS controls on a console, and just good old fashioned fun shooting em up and that's still not good enough. This is in a sea of mediocre FPS titles that come out every month - the flavor of the month coming up is Turok (the demo sucked). Shame how once things get popular it no longer becomes the "cool" thing and gets dumped on - typical crowd behavior. Kinda like a favorite band that someone liked when it wasn't popular but once it got too "mainstream" he/she dumped it and said they liked them before they "sold out" instead of being happy for their success.
- Ytliek, on 02/01/2008, -22/+83***** of advertising.
- mlvassallo, on 02/01/2008, -8/+66Are we still hating on Halo 3? It was a pretty solid experience and if you didn't expect more of the same then I don't know who you were trying to fool.
- solidus636, on 02/01/2008, -3/+44We don't do that here. Go back to QJ.
- flipcritic, on 02/01/2008, -4/+34Because they're Diggers, who love to be cynical towards anything that is generally accepted.
- Acglaphotis, on 02/01/2008, -6/+31Why does everyone hates halo here?
- Ignignokt01, on 02/01/2008, -3/+25Don't worry, the reason there seems to be a majority of 'Halo haters' on here is because the people that would normally retort are too busy playing the game, right now, like my roommates are... right now. To each their own...
- michaelrsa, on 02/01/2008, -4/+25Frankly, I rather enjoyed the Halo series, Halo and Halo 3 particularly, I will admit that at the moment I am enjoying Call of Duty 4 but I will not turn my back on Halo.
- inactive, on 02/01/2008, -3/+21Why are you digging this guy down? It was all Bungie's work toward the first Halo that made the Xbox. Bungie made Halo great, and Microsoft was just smart enough to pick up on their developing skills.
- Commonwealth, on 02/01/2008, -4/+20How many non-gamers know about Super Smash Brothers? Everybody knew about Halo 3 before it came out. SSMB has no mainstream hype compared to Halo 3.
- TheWorm, on 02/01/2008, -5/+21I get that it's cool to hate Halo because it's the biggest Xbox 360 game and probably didn't exactly deserve the PERFECT scores it was getting, but I don't regret dropping 60 dollars on it at all. I had a lot of fun playing through the campaign, and the multi-player is still addicting and engaging; Especially in team objective games like Capture the Flag, that require more planning than jump and shoot to defeat good people. Sure, it wasn't the perfect game, but it was far above mediocre. I wasn't that impressed with Halo 2 but Halo 3 exceeded my expectations as it's still the most played game on my shelf.
- Brad324, on 02/01/2008, -2/+18no. digg will not allow anyone to have fun with any halo game. Digg cannot accept people having fun with a microsoft product. Your fun is merely an illusion. Probable cause is witchcraft.
- inactive, on 02/01/2008, -12/+28Yeah, there was a lot of hype. But there's no other game that I still pick up and play regularly (having a damn good time doing so) after this many months.
- inactive, on 02/01/2008, -62/+78By making three nearly identical mediocre games
- thepretext, on 02/01/2008, -21/+36Hate to burst your bubble, but despite any bias you may have against the title you don't get the biggest launch in history by creating a mediocre series.
- EclipseGSX, on 02/01/2008, -0/+15They did put out one of the greatest video game commercials of all time...
http://videogames.yahoo.com/xbox360/halo-3/file-53 ... (the "Believe" ad) - AvronC, on 02/01/2008, -6/+20Its the need to feel to hate things that sell on a big level. Dosen't matter if its good being on digg means you have act diffrent.
- mghwom1, on 02/01/2008, -2/+16A huge mix of traditional advertising and word of mouth marketing.
Not to mention the giant fan base they had previously established. - Hoogs, on 02/01/2008, -7/+21Eh, I disagree. That helmet sitting above my TV looks pretty sweet.
- dannyboy3020, on 02/01/2008, -8/+21Popularity =/= quality
- inactive, on 02/01/2008, -6/+18except call of duty 4
- Butt3rs, on 02/01/2008, -9/+20im sry that im prolly a fan boy speaking...but i love the online for halo 3, along with many other online games. its a good fps. its the marketing that got more copies sold. u couldent go the the bathroom without seeing an ad for halo 3
- katanaswordfish, on 02/01/2008, -9/+20its called marketing...
- Spikeli27, on 02/01/2008, -1/+11they also made spellcheck, use it
- tcasey22, on 02/01/2008, -1/+11I don't know about anyone else, but that gamefuel was amazing. Just wish I had the foresight to have stocked up a bit, ie: Pepsi-Holiday Spice style.
- whyufail, on 02/01/2008, -5/+15Wouldn't be a console thread without Sonys fluffing squad.
- ryodoan, on 02/01/2008, -2/+12Exactly, give credit to the people that actually made the game, not the company that bought the developers.
- AmICoolNow, on 02/01/2008, -3/+12Because they're non-conformists. Which obviously makes them cool.
- Ev3nt372, on 02/01/2008, -2/+10Marathon>Doom
- InfinitySnatch, on 02/01/2008, -4/+12I remember the first time I saw a commercial for Meet the Spartans. I ran to my friends room and started shouting,"Look at this! We helped greenlight this! There's only one thing left to do. KILL OURSELVES." And then we killed ourselves.
- dansmeek, on 02/01/2008, -9/+17i guarantee you that if MS doesn't buy bungie, halo goes on to be a run of the mill "OS X" FPS. yes it was developed for OS X as an exclusive before being bought by MS.
- inactive, on 02/01/2008, -5/+13you're a bigger person for having admitted it. kudos!
- PunkRampant, on 02/01/2008, -2/+10Gears of War had terrible multiplayer.
-Max 8 people
-Severely flawed matchmaking
-Game-ruining glitches (crab walk)
-The host had undisputed advantage (crazy-powerful shotgun)
The only thing Gears had going for it were the pretty graphics, and sneaking up behind someone and chainsawing them was extremely satisfying. Besides that, I think for many people it was just a sideshow to keep them busy until Halo 3 or Call of Duty 4. - FutureGuy, on 02/01/2008, -4/+12MS did buy Bungie but Halo wasn't even a console game at that time, but MS had the foresight that the Halo concept would become a great console game and "invested" in it and the rest is history. Learn to give credit where its due.
- SonicRush, on 02/01/2008, -5/+13Yup, I think it was the Mt. Dew.
- marky125, on 02/01/2008, -1/+8Not if you're blocked!
- gmiley, on 02/01/2008, -1/+8I really don't understand how they can keep making those movies, the only one that contained any funny at all was the first one of the kind (I think it was the first Scary Movie?), and even that was just a long string of mediocre slapstick goofyness.
- hyankov, on 02/01/2008, -3/+9Oh... the irony! ... they put the red circle of death on the front page.
- xyqxyq, on 02/01/2008, -1/+7Okay, you're right. (This is why I love Digg; people here will correct me if I'm wrong and back it up with reason) But you can't tell me that it didn't receive a metric ton of publicity, and you can't tell me that that publicity didn't increase the size of the launch by a fair amount. Not many games (maybe no games before Halo 3) have made dozens and dozens of headlines and radio talk shows and (apparently) mountain dew boxes like Halo 3 did.
- msaleem, on 02/01/2008, -46/+523-parts hype, 2 parts... err... wait, it was all hype... That the game didn't live up to. It was good but nowhere near as good as expected.
- MrFisty, on 02/01/2008, -0/+6"The fingers you have used to dial are too fat. To obtain a special dialing wand, please mash the keypad with your palm now."
- d0onut, on 02/01/2008, -1/+7Halo 3 made $170 million on the first day. Not counting Legendary/Limited Editions, that's 2.8M.
- BarrettAnderson, on 02/01/2008, -4/+10That might work for the first iteration of a game, but the third? The vast majority of people who are purchasing Halo 3 have already played 1 and/or 2. Now why would they go for the third if the only reason they bought the first two was publicity? You should give a little more credit to humanity...
- davidrools, on 02/01/2008, -4/+10lol "Chris Loll"
- TheWorm, on 02/01/2008, -1/+7At least Scary Movie was a fairly clever spoof. These new mindless "spoofs" think that just by referencing a movie or recreating a scene with more fart jokes is funny.
- Juntistik, on 02/01/2008, -2/+7The Mac OS X Concept was nothing nearly close to what the Xbox version came out to be. Halo for the Mac was an RTS and when Microsoft bought them, Bungie started from scratch and came up with an FPS.
