- demusdesign, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11It's been up at the Halo Wars website for a week or so now:
http://www.halowars.com/Media.aspx - Elpea, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7http://halowars.com/
Big huge banner there to click and download the video to watch on your computer. It has been up for like 3 days. - Emrtr4, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4I was hoping I could go one day, just one ***** day without somehow ending up on rickrolls youtube page.
- CraigJ, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6I hate you.
- floridiot2, on 10/10/2007, -3/+7It's for Xbox Live! Marketplace.
- knightofeffect, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3As this is not a Digg video, I'm guessing it should be recieved as a news story... A news story about the video being released on XBLM, as stated in the title. Personally, I will now go check on XBLM due to this news story and will be glad to view the video. Don't harass the creator simply due to a lack of your own reading comprehension skills.
- xTRUMANx, on 10/10/2007, -5/+8No video? Need to have an online xbox to watch? What's the point of this submission. Me so confused such South Africa and the Iraq.
- Radan, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Yeah, exactly! So far, Halo Wars looks like a total disappointment. It's pretty much just Age of Empires with Halo models. And what's up with the controls? When they first announced that Halo Wars were to be built specifically for the Xbox and its controller, I were thinking about some completely new innovating gameplay unlike any other regular RTS games (something like a very advanced version of how you order around team mates in GRAW 2), but this looks exactly as gimped as all the other RTS games that have been ported to the consoles. GG Microsoft! Just keep on milking that moneycow.
- RyanBlueThunder, on 10/10/2007, -3/+6Maybe it's because I'm a Halo fanboy, but the AI seems attrocious. Marines just standing there taking fire. Since when do Ghosts remain stationary on the battlefield? Kill an Elite and the Grunts don't go running away? I understand that it is an early build...but these are things that I expect. Then again, I have faith in Ensemble, so...
- grumbel, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Looks way to much like basically every other RTS released in the last decade. Nothing bad, but neither anything special about it.
- Wytefang, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2It's not that big of a tragedy - this game looks pretty 'meh' all around. Considering that the Halo universe isn't terrible 1. original or 2. interesting, why should PC gamers have ANY desire to play this?
- lacronicus, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4a new landmark in the strategy genre? whats so revolutionary about it? It still doesn't make a good case for rts games on anything but a pc, and it doesn't do anything that other strategy games haven't done already. The only thing that I can see that will sell it is the fact that it's halo, and that, unfortunately, will likely be enough to give it the "rts of the century" award. If they really thought the game had enough merit on it's own, they would have created a new IP, because the halo universe definitely does not lend itself to the rts genre. but whatever, they need to milk it somehow, qhy not toss in an rts or an rpg and call it innovation.
- EugineMW, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4Bring this God damn game to PC. Microsoft please.
- bbardlbradd, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4It would be extremely sad to see a game like this get flushed just b/c it doesn't support Keyboard+mouse. If you're targeting the RTS demographic... you'll NEED TO SUPPORT KEYBOARD AND MOUSE! It's imperative! I honestly can't believe they'd make a game like this and not either make a Keyboard+Mouse for the 360, or not port it to PC... It would be such a great tragedy.
- alexra, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2thx for ruining my day
- bbardlbradd, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3 Having the warthogs (or any other unit) move as they fire... imagine trying to grab one of the units while it's attacking the wrong target, to have it attack something else w/out a mouse... that would be far more annoying than having them sit there and die.
- rowlodge, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1i hate games where a bunch of little tiny people attack a bunch of other tiny little people.
- Wytefang, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Perhaps you missed out on the crapfest that was AOE III? They've lost their way...kinda sad, really...but then again, no one on the PC side's really missed them in light of all the killer RTS games out these days...
- dayvideg, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1was i the only one who caught the warthog voice over "they'll never know what hit him" ripping off of starcraft ghosts' voiceover?
- bbardlbradd, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Thanks so much...
- elnerdo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1It will still sell like hotcakes because of stupid people and the name "Halo"
- DaviDaviDaviD, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Damn, I was hoping for a video. Better go power up the ol' beast!
- Tactis, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1umm this is supposed to be a console rts only. Its not supposed to be as sophisticated or as good as any of those games you listed.
- Infekted, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1thats not right dude.
- KrazyKoala, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3Game looks cool. My problem with it so far though is that ground units don't really move. The Warthogs came up to the Elites/Grunts, stopped and started to fire its turrets. Meanwhile the Covenant made no attempt to get out of the way of Warthogs, gunfire, grenades, etc. That's a huge letdown and it really loses the Halo feel. All units should keep moving while attacking, except maybe tanks here and there. The air units were always active and the Banshees looked really cool as a result.
Basically, make the units more active and they'll have themselves a winner of a game. - in2deep, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Awesome!
- bbardlbradd, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I sure as hell hope so.
- hollismb, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1The video is on the XBOX Live Marketplace, which is what this article is about, so you can't link to it. A WMV version is available at http://halowars.com though. Major Nelson is the XBOX Live rep for Microsoft, so this story is actually appropriately linked (odd for Digg, I know).
- AWBoy666, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Someone rip this and get it on the 'net STAT!!!
- bmystry, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3Crappiest looking RTS game I've seen in a while. The units are boring and don't seem to do anything at all, the graphics are sub par, and two warthogs not being able to take out some grunts is just not true to the actual game balance.
- elnerdo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1It will still sell like hotcakes because of stupid people and the name "Halo"
- wallaby, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2http://youtube.com/watch?v=OUy-E0_37Ek
- vypergts, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Here's the proper link to watch online from what I can gather: http://www.xbox.com/NR/rdonlyres/426E60B0-3D2C-4C3A-A31D-481B1C583A48/0/vidHaloWarsDemo01Hi.asx
- Namesbond, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2C&C FTW
- hollismb, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2I downloaded and watched it from the LIVE Marketplace last night. The bass when those anti-aircraft vehicles started firing was rockin'. Sounds like a fireworks display.
- sevireen, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1just saw the video and i must say that the controls aren`t as bad as i thought they would be
remember this was built for the 360 and not pc so it could turn out great
units are produced instantly which is new to me don`t know bout wht rts has this
and soem units are incredibly overpowered , tht scarab thingy better take a ***** to produce
anyways am buyin this the first day it comes out - Wytefang, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Not sure why this article tried to paint Halo Wars as a 'landmark in RTS gaming'?? There's nothing innovative or terribly unique here unless you consider it 'unique' that it's set in the rather bleah-textured Halo universe. YAWN...oh sorry, the concept alone made me sleepy. Anyway, back on track, why would anyone think this could be better than Company of Heroes (Game of the Year 2006 on PC and probably the best RTS ever made), Supreme Commander (another sterling RTS with at least one very good innovation in the scalable zoom feature), or the forthcoming StarCraft 2 which is shaping up to be something quite spectacular though perhaps not entirely innovative. Furthermore, Ensemble, while once a surefire developer, fell pretty flat (critically) with AOE 3 and even long-time fans of the series were pretty widely disappointed with that game. I'm kind of glad that they jumped ship from PC development to console development since they had nothing new to add to the genre these days anyway. At least this way they can keep their derivative and unoriginal gameplay on the systems that enjoy those kinds of games - consoles. :)
- SSCrow, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2Halo was originally planned to be an RTS game.
And maybe you should play the game before you pass judgments about what it can claim to fame.
Its Ensemble Studios. They make good RTS games. - grrttgreen, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0long live starcraft

- Darksaber11, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1Has anyone else noticed that GameTrailers.com has some Halo Wars videos in it's PC section? I was a little thrown by this, do they have some information we don't!?
- Ghostalker, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1Next time, link to the video, not someone's rant about the video.
